Bless you. I just moved into my flat and had no hot water. The property agent office is closed until Monday so I would have been stuck without this video. Thank you so much 🕊️
You’re amazing! Thank you so much for such a detailed explanation. Definitely should help a lot of people save money by orienting off peak electric times!
Hi there, this has been a great help and I think it has helped me to identify a problem with my boiler. The red lit timed button is on all the time. It only went off when I was setting the clock to the right time and finished programming. I have it programmed to come on one time and 2&3 as shown as I only need it on once. It is set to winter with no timed boost to come on 7-8.30am once a day. My bills are extortionate and hence investigation. But what I have discovered is the red timed button is displayed all the time even if I put the switch to OFF! From watching this video it clearly states the red timed button should only be lit when the set time is on I.e. between 7-8.30am. I really would appreciate confirmation that the wiring seems wrong before I go to the expense of having to get an engineer or electrician out 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Hi Janine, Sorry to reply you late. The red LED light should only be On when the power is supplied to boiler during programmed time. In your case the scenario seems the boiler is always powered to heat and this is causing high electricity bill.
Thank you so much! This was helpful 😊 I set my timer and when it said 2, I thought I don’t want it to heat twice! & this explained it perfectly. Thank you again
Hi, I have this same system at my place. I have setup 3 off peak times, 4-5pm 8-9pm and 5-6am. The only problem here is that I’m only getting hot water for 15-20 mins and then it drops to mild and then cold. I’m planning to change it to default settings which is just one off peak 2-7am and other 2 are off. After this setting will I get hot water for whole day? Shower is only used twice daily. Thanks.
o disable the Horstmann Electronic 7 water heater and have continuous hot water, you will need to switch off the timer on the device. Here are the steps to do this: Locate the Horstmann Electronic 7 water heater and find the timer control panel. Turn off the power supply to the water heater unit. Press and hold the "Boost" button on the timer control panel. While holding down the "Boost" button, turn the power supply back on. Release the "Boost" button once the LED display on the timer control panel starts to flash. Press the "Boost" button again to turn off the timer function. Wait for a few minutes to allow the water heater to heat up and provide continuous hot water. Please note that disabling the timer function on your water heater may increase your energy consumption and lead to higher utility bills. It is recommended that you consult with a professional plumber or electrician before making any changes to your water heater.
Sorry not sure if I made myself clear but when you set it for the 4.30am - 5.30 am setting do you press to make the black dot for timed boost come on or do you leave the black dot off please? Thank you
Thank you will try it tonight another thing I don’t have off peak electricity but don’t think that matters I have set my off peak program to the same as yours 4.30-5.30. Do I have to leave the off/switched output/timed on TIMED when wanting the hot water to heat in the night? I don’t need hot water daily as sometimes not here so should I switch that button to OFF if not here especially as sometimes I am not here for three weeks and don’t want to heat water if I am not here. So to recap do I put that LH side switch pressed to TIMED when I want the hot water at night and to OFF if I am not going to be here and it won’t heat up? Am getting there with your kind help thanks x
Hey, Happy to help :-) Please find my answers below - 1. Yes... you need to leave the off/switched output/timed on TIMED when wanting the hot water to heat in the night. 2. Yes... put that LH side switch pressed to TIMED when you want the hot water at night and to OFF if you are not going to be here and it won’t heat up. Have a great day!
Few questions, What's the difference between the offpeak programme timer and boost programme timer? what's the summer and winter setting used for? So will the "timed" light be on only when the water is being heated?
I know the Horstmann timer is connected to two immersion heaters (top and bottom) and the tank is a thermal store always filled with water. During timed program the lower immersion is switched On and during boost the upper immersion heater. The boost is used when additional hot water is needed. The controller summer or winter timings are automatic and cannot be changed manually. This is set by manufacturer during installation of boiler/controller based on your location. The controller automatically switches time during daylight saving. Yes, the timed light will be On when the water is being heated.
Would you say 3AM to 4AM be enough to heat up a water tank that is quite small? and what if I use all of the hot water, would that mean I need to use the boost or would it heat itself back up?
Hey, The timer running time depends on volume of your boiler and consumption of hot water. For example, If the volume is low and consumptions is high then timer needs to come on very frequently. During winters you may need to have the timer on for longer duration as incoming water temperature is low. You may need to experiment so to know how long and frequency the timer needs to be on. The timer is connected to two immersion heaters (top and bottom) and the tank is a thermal store always filled with water. During timed program the lower immersion is switched On and during boost the upper immersion heater. I would recommend use boost only when additional hot water is needed in emergency.
Also sorry for the nighttime setting on the right hand side should the little black dot like the summer winter black dot be lit up black for it to heat water in the night please?
Hi, The unit is fitted with an automatic clock that is pre-set on manufacture and should not normally require any adjustments by the user. The clock will automatically adjust the time to Summertime (BST) or Wintertime (GMT) as appropriate and this setting is always shown on the clock display by switching the black dot automatically between summer or winter. The black dot is just an indication for summer or winter time and doesn't need any adjustments.
Hey, I guess so but please connect with manufacturer before making a decision. As I know most of the electrical radiators come with programming mode and this controller may not be required.
Hi, If you put main switch 'off' instead of ‘timed’ the boiler will be cut off from power. You need to programme timer from 00:00 to 24:00 to so to keep boiler on all time.
I set the time, when the heating time is on , the led is on , seems everything is fine , but hours later it has no water. In short, the heater works only for the 1-hour manual boost and for the default time. It doesn’t heat at the time I set . What happen ? I tried resetting it but still no hot water at the time I want ….
Hi, Looks like the controller is working fine but boiler isn't. I guess there is some issue with boiler temperature setting or the coils, good to contact a service engineer at the earliest.
My “time” light is green. I currently had cold water, and when I set the time for 6:30 the clock keeps changing the time to 10 minutes on top of the time it currently is. What is this?
Hi there! Thanks so much for this! Question how long should I put the off peak programme for ? I want it to last the whole day without having it running 24/7
Hey Taylor, The timer running time depends on volume of your boiler and consumption of hot water. For example, If the volume is low and consumtions is high then timer needs to come on very frequently. During winters you may need to have the timer on for longer duration. You may need to experiment so to know how long and frequency the timer needs to be on.
Hi how do I make my water hot whenever I turn it on because I like to have baths and when I turn the boost on the water is only hot for 5-10 minutes then it goes cold
Hi, When controller switch's ON it takes a while for boiler to heat complete stored water. It's best to use hot water when the boost is off after 1 hour.
Thank you for uploading this, please also confirm how to enable multiple boost time like you did in the off-peak programme also manual boost is not working in the panel I have, any solution for that?
Hi Ajay Soumya, Please refer video at 1:40 where you can find how to setup Boost timer demonstration. Regarding manual boost I would suggest to connect with boiler service team to get this rectified.
Hi I have 3 electronic 7 connected to my megaflow cyclinder which controls 3 elson immersion heater. Does all 3 electronic 7 need to be put on off peak timer to serve 3 bathrooms. Currently i put each on 2am-7am then 3pm-4pm and 8pm-9pm. I want to know if all has to be on at the same time. Thank you
Hi Vishal, If I understand correct in case all of your immersion heaters and Elctronic-7’s are located individually at each bathroom then you need to program them separate based on consumption at each bathroom.
Hi Vishal, you mean three separate Electronic-7 connected to one Megaflow cylinder? Sry, in most cases what I have experienced is one Electronic-7 connected to boiler and it controls both regular and boost heaters. Your setup is very new to me, In this case I would recommend to perform setup based on trial, watch for hot water consumption and switch heaters accordingly.
Good morning , thank you for your helpful video. I’ve recently moved in to my new flat and warm water was working fine. Since August it seems like the overnight heating doesn’t heat up to how hot the water used to be ?? I’ve resetted everything like how your video instructs. Any ideas how I can fix this ? The booster does still work though when I manually set it. Would you advise to set the programmed boost ? I’ve been quoted £450 by an engineer to replace the heating element
Good morning Gerald, With your situation I wonder if this could be either boiler heating element or the insulation. Can you try setting your timer close to your regular hot water usage time and see if the problem still exists. This can confirm if there is an issue with boiler insulation and not heating element. If you still don't get hot water then it could be the heating element problematic and you may need servicing. Most of the times poor insulation leads to heat loss overnight.
Hi, thank you very much for your video. It has helped a lot. I have one question so when the LED is lit does that mean the water is hot and I can use it or does it mean the boiler is operating in warming the water? I say this because I set a time (05:00-07:00) as you instructed but the LED light is lit (the time is now 06:00) and the water is still cold? Thank you in advance
Hi Rebekah, Glad the video was helpful and you were able to perform setup. When the 'Timer' LED is On then it means the boiler is operational. Can you please check if there is supply of hot water after 2 hours. If this is not happening then one cause could be the boiler needs temperature setup to be raised. If nothing is working then it is recommended to connect with boiler service team and get this resolved.
Very useful video. Wondering if I can change the system from summer to winter? The hot water from the boiler has a weird smell and taste (smells like something sweet but in a bad way). Wondering if that is the reason?
Hi Shazmeen, The controller cannot be changed for summer or winter timings manually. This is set by manufacturer during installation of boiler/controller based on your location. The controller automatically switches time during daylight saving. It's recommended you connect with an electrician or boiler manufacturer regarding the water quality from boiler.
@@bicyclecolours8988 o disable the Horstmann Electronic 7 water heater and have continuous hot water, you will need to switch off the timer on the device. Press and hold the "Boost" button on the timer control panel. While holding down the "Boost" button, turn the power supply back on. Thank you for this. So if I wanted to have enough water to shower in the morning and evening after work and some water for washing up dishes in the evening, would I get enough hot water if I set timer from 5.00-6:30am? Also, there are two switches under my controller: one marked ‘time clock’ and one marked ‘fuse’. Do I keep those on? Thank you.
Hi Paula, It purely depends on your hot water consumption. The boiler acts like a thermos which stores hot water. If in case you consume all hot water before evening then you may need to set one more timer for the evening before you are back from work. Please keep the time clock and fuse switch on.
Thank you very much. I have been using it without the ‘fuse’ switch being on and it seems to be continuing to work. I thought that fuse button was the immersion, as my electricity bills have been very high when it has been on constantly.
Hi I set all 3 off peak intervals “off” by setting them all with the same on and off time as you instructed . Will this result in me having hot water running all day or will I end up with no hot water at all now?
Is there an easy way to tell if the heating is on (as in currently heating up the water)? Is it the light marked "timed"? The availability of hot water seems unrelated to the time periods set up on that thing...
Hi David, It's only the light marked 'Timed' which is an indicator that boiler is On. The Horstmann controller only dictates the boiler to switch On and Off at programmed times. You may need to experiment like 'Boiler On time' Vs 'Daily hot water consumption' and set the program accordingly.
So what is different betwen this model and the non screen version and also are they interchangeable (ie upgrade tp this version)? I have an economy 7 system
Hi Leito, As you can see the non-screen is mechanical and screened one is electronics and software based. I guess both perform in same way. The electronic one is more user friendly with respect to setup, got nicer GUI. Please contact Horstmann customer support to check on how to replace old version with new one.
I like to have baths but after 10 mins the water turns cold or mild....this happens even though I've used the boost! I don't know what is going on and I keep getting frustrating changing the peak times/using the boost. I have also called a technician - do you know what it may be happening?
Very useful video, and huge respect for responding to each and every comment here👏🏻 my question is, I have a standard energy tariff without off peak times. Would I get a better result if I replace boost times with off-peak times and remove timed boost altogether? Or both programmes should kick in different times of the day regardless of the energy tariff?
Hi Baris, Thanks for a note of appreciation :-) As you have only standard energy tariff, both 'Off Peak Programme' and 'Boost Programme' should result in same energy consumption depending upon your hot water requirement. You can experiment if only using 'Timed or Off Peak Programme' suffices your hot water needs. In that case you may even not require to use 'Boost Programme'.
What is the best time settings to configure it. My electricity bills are coming really high. And my current timer is set from 5 amto7 am, but the water become starts getting cold if i choose to take my bath later. I'm thinking of switching of timer and use only boost as and when required. Kindly comment
Hi, As you know the advantage of timer function is to run heater during 'Off peak' electricity supply and also to plan for uninterrupted supply of hot water through the day. On technical side as I know usually the Horstmann timer is connected to two immersion heaters (top and bottom) and the tank is a thermal store always filled with water. This water surrounds one more water coil inside tank. These coils are connected to your hot and cold taps. During timed program the lower immersion is switched on and during boost the upper immersion heater. When you start using hot tap, the cold water passes through coils inside the tank and it is then heated by the stored hot water that is inside the tank surrounding the coils. During timer on, all of the water inside the tank is heated up to the temperature set on the thermostat inside the tank. Once the tank is hot, the heater switches 'off' and no more electricity is consumed. The stored hot water looses heat as cold water flows through coils as it is consumed by you. On some instances there could be failure in heating system due to broken immersion, internal thermostat, or the wiring. This may lead stored water to heat at a lower temperature than set level on thermostat. In these events you will have hot water supply in low quantities and also at lower temperatures. The boost feature is designed as an emergency top up if you run out of hot water during the day. If there is a broken system then using boost will also not solve the issue and may cause higher electricity bill. If you feel the issue is not fixable then it's recommended to seek an electrician with test gears to diagnose the problem.
Hi George, If you are using Horstmann Electronic 7 controller then use Boost button only in case of additional hot water requirement. The Boost will run boiler heater for an hour. With this type of controller not sure about Tracer switch.
I have a "water heater" switch in my utility room just next to my Horstmann Electronic 7 - should the "water heater" switch be turned off when I finish using hot water? If I keep the switch off, will Horstmann Electronic 7 still boil water according to my off peak timer? Should Horstmann Electronic 7 be switched off every night after using hot water in order to save electricity?
Hi Amber, Please keep the 'water heater' switch always ON. The Horstmann Electronic 7 will not work if the switch is turned OFF. Please keep Horstmann Electronic 7 switched ON all time. The electricity will only be consumed when the heater is on.
Hello friend, I'm having trouble with working my off peak settings. It's only set on default times 2:15 to 7:15. And the minus/plus buttons are not working. Do you have any idea what this means??
Hi, Looks like the controller is frozen and doesn't allow you to do any changes. Can you please reset the controller as shown in the end of this video and set timings. Hope this works.
@@bicyclecolours8988 hi, yes I tried already but it's not working. The four black dots are showing and even after resetting nothing changes, still the same
Thanks for this. So is the principle that the boiler will come on during those set times, heat the water until it reaches the temperature shown on the boiler (in my case 54 degrees), then stop heating? (I think this is what should happen, but mine seems to have stopped working that way.)
Yes, absolutely. The boiler gets auto switched Off when it has reached to set temperature. If you feel issue looks baffling then it's recommended to connect with an electrician or boiler manufacturer.
Hi thank you for the great video, very helpful and insightful. However my timed light does not appear On within the boost period even though the Boost button is now red. What does this mean?
Hi Shirwa, The timed light will only appear when the boiler in ON during your programmed period (both Off-peak and Boost). The timed LED may not be red in case if you have manually switched ON Boost.
I am facing issue even after setting it as you said. Kindly tell whether the TIMED light will be on when boost is turned ON? Also in the switch, the button should be at switched output or Timed?
Hi. Could you kindly explain how I can set the boiler timing for all day and night hot water please? Is it possible to turn the hot water on from 4am to 12pm in one go or would I have to do it in several intervals? Many thanks.
Hi Osman, Sorry, I personally never did this. I setup device based on hot water consumption. Setting boiler on for all day may increase your electricity bill. But in case you have such requirement then recommended to setup controller ON for whole day in two intervals, e.g. 1 am to 11 am and 1 pm to 11 pm.
Very helpful thank you. Do you leave the off/ switched output/ timed put to TIMED 24 hours a day when set eg all of the time? and also if you are going away for two or three week do you just switch this button off to off for when you are away as don’t want hot water heating up when away. Thank you
Hey, Yes, that's absolutely correct. When you are home and need hot water supply then switch it to 'TIMED'. When you are away and home doesn't need hot water supply then switch it to 'OFF'.
What I don't understand is that if we set the time in the clock in the off-peak period, do we still need to set the same time in the off peak programme?
Hi, The clock on Horstmann controller is set by manufacturer. You may need to adjust clock only when you reset the frozen controller. You need to setup Off peak programme to make your boiler run.
Hi, The temperature setting can be only done in boiler and not in controller. Just to understand is the hot water temperature always low right from the beginning? Over the period of time when hot water is being used the temperature slowly starts to lower in the end. If this is the case then you need to start the boiler in short intervals.
Hi, I’m experiencing a problem, will the switch that you flipped in the start of the video switching from off to timed, be flipped back automatically? I often have the switch on the timed position but see it flipped back to the off position later in the week. I’m really confused as none of our family members touched the switch. Thank you so much.
Hi, It's never possible the Switch be automatically flipped from Timed to Off position. Can you please check if the switch is broken and it springs back after a while or there is a high probability someone has touched it accidentally.
I switch off controller when out of property. Will the program setup disappear once switched off, do I need to perform all setup starting from beginning?
Our water has run out today and I need a shower still, I've pushed the boost button for the third time now and it is still boosting, does it boost every time I push it and will it give me more hot water if I push it another 2 times? Thanks.
Hi, Will the heating turn on automatically at night or do we need to set the off peak timings? If I turn off all the 3 off peak timings will the I have hot water in the morning? I am not sure if I am doing the right thing by setting off peak for 5 hours..my unit consumption has gone up too. Please advise Thanks
Hi Abdul, The heating will not turn on automatically at night. You need to set off peak timings. If you turn off all the 3 off peak timings then you will not have hot water in the morning. Initially you can set off peak timing for 2 hours and amend to increase hours later based on your hot water consumption.
Hello thanks for the video! I want to know should I set all three timers ? I have lower electricity rates between 12am to 6am and I have set all three timers for this period, is this correct?
Hey, Glad to know video was helpful :-) Setting controller timer allows boiler to get switched On when temperature of water gets lowered in the storage. So programme setup needs to be depending on your water usage. The boiler gets auto switched Off when it has reached to set temperature. If you set all 3 timers between 12am to 6am and if this setup is good enough to keep hot water supply for entire day then you are good to go. If you feel hot water runs out later in the day then it's recommended having one setup during the day.
Hey bro, great video. Couple of things. Water doesn't seem to be heating overnight, despite following instructions exactly. The run button even comes on, but it just doesn't heat up. However, the boost does work. The upper part of the system warms up and there is hot water. In regard to the timed boost, I see you still have to set the timer for it. Does it matter if you set the timer from midnight to midnight, or should you only set it for 1 hour at a time? Bit confused by that.
Hey, I would recommend increase the boiler On time in steps and check for hot water rather keeping it on for entire day. Keeping boiler on for entire day can lead to increased electricity bill. In winter you may need to keep on timer for longer duration due to low water temperatures.
@bicyclecolours8988 Thanks for replying. I understand. However, when I use the off peak programme to heat overnight, it just doesn't, even though the run button comes on. The temperature is set to 73 so it's high. Do you think it could be the element that is faulty? Although as I say last, the water gets hot when I use the boost button
Hi, With your situation I wonder if this could be either boiler heating element or the insulation. Can you try setting your timer close to your regular hot water usage time and see if the problem still exists. This can confirm if there is a issue with boiler insulation and not heating element. If you don't get hot water then it could be heating element problematic and you may need servicing.
I have mine set to run from 7 am to 8 am and then 4 pm to 5 pm. i take one shower in the morning when its done heating, but only get 3 minutes of hot water and then it goes lukewarm. It seems to last much longer while washing dishes. How can i fix this?
Hi, The best guess that I could make is the manual/thermostatic setup for shower mixer isn't working well. Check if you recently amde changes for winter and setup is disturbed. The temperature setup for tap is always different than shower. The other reasons could be like - - Boiler is supplying hot water to radiator and shower at the same time. - Temperature setting in boiler is low and this is not helping in winter as cold water is consuming more energy to heat. - The hot water discharge at dish washing is low compared to shower. In that case hot water last longer at dish washing. If nothing works out then last guess could be if there are any insulation issues to piping system in bathroom which requires plumber assistance.
Hi Bro, i am experiencing an issue where i am getting luke warm water and also observed that setting is in Summer. How can we change that to Winter. Any thoughts please.
Hi Ravi, The clock is pre-set on manufacture and should not normally require any adjustments by the user. If this is not correct than try resetting the controller once. If reset doesn't help then you may need to check with customer support.
Can you make a video about gmt/bst or gmt only. I want the water heater to turn on at the same program time all year around. Which setup should I use? I am currently on gmt only (winter time)
Hey Alessa, The Electronic 7 is fitted with an automatic clock that is pre-set on manufacture and should not normally require any adjustments by the user. The clock will automatically adjust the time to Summertime (BST) or Wintertime (GMT) as appropriate and this setting is always shown on the clock display. No adjustment is needed to be made by the installer/user. Sometimes the unit needs resetting and in this case the clock should be adjusted to the correct time of day.
@@bicyclecolours8988 but the unit i received has a manual switch inside that it had to be selecte either of them for it to panel to turn on so I selected GMT.
Hi Alessa, I get your point. If there is a manual option then you need to adjust clock when day light saving begins starting summer. I guess the timer program remains the same as it will work based on clock and you don't need to reset timer again.
Thank you so much for creating this video. May I know how long do you usually turn on your boiler? And for how long, it would be enough for 2-3 people to shower (approx 10-15mins each person)? Still struggling to get the right settings when we have friends coming to stay over :( Thank you in advance 🙏🏻
Hi Vanessa, Glad the video was useful. The timer setup completely depends on your hot water usage. You need to consider hot water use in kitchen and other hand washing areas. I would recommend set the timer for 2 hours each in the morning and evening. Later observe your usage and gradually reduce the heating period by 15 minutes and check if that effects any hot water shortfalls.
Hey, As you need hot water for whole day I recommend to set timers couple of hours in the morning and evening. Based on your consumption I recommend you decide to reduce or increase ON time for your heater and also decide if in case timer needs to be set for afternoon.
Hi thank you for this tutorial! But I still don't understand the difference between Boost/ Boost Program/ Offpeak Program. Could you kindly explain more? Really appreciated!
Hi Ryan, As I know the timer is connected to two immersion heaters (top and bottom) and the tank is a thermal store always filled with water. During timed program the lower immersion is switched On and during boost the upper immersion heater. The boost is used when additional hot water is needed. You can use Boost program if you anticipate more usage of hot water or you can switch it ON on need basis. The off-peak program is to put the boiler ON if you have an option for off-peak tariff plan for electricity. The boiler can run during off-peak time and store water for the entire day. This way you pay less electricity bill.

The clock will automatically adjust the time to Summertime (BST) or Wintertime (GMT) as appropriate and this setting is always shown on the clock display.
If i set the boost timer does the boost light goes on or not Even though my boiler is in boost program there is no boost light That’s why I think my boost program is not working Can you plz help me with this
@@bicyclecolours8988 hi … I did check … the on and off time is same but still the 3rd timer shows off but first and second is on even after setting up … I am not sure if I can share pictures or video here for you to see
Hi Vedika, Seems the controller is frozen. Can you please reset the controller as shown in this video by pressing all four button together and again try setup the program timer. I hope this helps to resolve your issue.
I've had mine for nearly 10 years, and now it keeps switching off and is only coming back on when I switch the power to the house off and back on. Now ,this morning it's not coming on at all. any ideas why? Thanks
Hi Paul, Sorry to hear that. Looks like some electronics is broken and you may need to seek an service engineer's advice to get this evaluated and fixed.
Hi Charsii, Thanks for your note of appreciation. You can set controller timer at frequent intervals so boiler gets switched On when temperature of water gets lowered in the storage. The boiler gets auto switched Off when it has reached to set temperature.
Hi, Seems like there is some issue with temperature setup in the boiler. If this is the case then recommended to connect with boiler service engineer. Please note the Horstmann Electronic is only meant for timer setup.
Hi Karnakar, You can set controller timer at frequent intervals so boiler gets switched On when temperature of water gets lowered in the storage. The boiler gets auto switched Off when it has reached to set temperature.
Hi Natasha, I guess there could be some issue with the Boost function. Just to understand, is the timer function working well and boiler is able to deliver hot water?
Great video. I don’t know why, but my hot water isn’t working. It works when I boost but doesn’t work as it has been. The heating is fine it’s just the hot water. I’ll look at resetting it.
Hi, Can you give it a try to setup your boiler run timing close to your usage timing, for example if you start using hot water at 6:00 am then set controller to end just before like 5:55 am. If this works then I guess there is some heat lose from the boiler over a period of time.
This is happening to mine too. I have just reset it and for the second and third timer I set them to the same time as in the video. On at 12pm and off at 12pm for both. We shall see if it works.
Just an update. I reset my panel by pressing BOOST, MINUS, PLUS & SELECT simultaneously. I set the first timer to 10am to 12pm just for a trial run. I set the second timer on at 12pm off at 12pm. I set the third timer to on at 12pm off at 12pm. It's 10.15am now and the red timer light is on to indicate that the panel is working. However there is no noise from my tank. Usually I would hear a small noise to indicate that the heating element in the tank is working. This leads me to believe that the problem is not the Horstmann panel but the heating element in the tank. I will need an electrician now.
Bro can you please explain me in simple way because untill now I just used to press boost every time whenever I need hot water I dont do anything extra but from last 4 days I don’t know what happened water is not getting hot. So just tell me how to fix it for all day I mean I don’t want to play with these buttons every time I need. Just press boost and get hot so tell me something like that because I am trying hard from 4 days but its not working and I am getting pissed of. Please tell me something more simpler
Hi Wilson, Boost lets you temporarily switch ON hot water outside of scheduled events. When Boost is used on demand it does heat-up the top part of the cylinder only. The bottom part of boiler cylinder is still cold. If you need all time hot water on demand basis then the most recommended way is to use instant water heater rather than programmable boiler controller. Or you can follow this video to set program for specific time and hot water will be stored for entire day to use.
I’m so angry at my room mate iv had nothing but cold water 24.7 and it was set by him to 4am to 7am and iv had to manually boost to get a bath checking on it every hour
Hey, Sorry to say the security lock settings cannot be altered after being set by the installer. You may need to contact property owner to make any changes.
Bless you. I just moved into my flat and had no hot water. The property agent office is closed until Monday so I would have been stuck without this video. Thank you so much 🕊️

Thanks.
Hi Sheroz, I would recommend try setting 3-5 am and 4-6 pm and try using. If this doesn’t help then switch to default settings.
Very helpful. Thanks!

o disable the Horstmann Electronic 7 water heater and have continuous hot water, you will need to switch off the timer on the device. Here are the steps to do this:
Locate the Horstmann Electronic 7 water heater and find the timer control panel.
Thank you so much for your help brother

Sorry not sure if I made myself clear but when you set it for the 4.30am - 5.30 am setting do you press to make the black dot for timed boost come on or do you leave the black dot off please? Thank you
Hi, Hi, You only need to make black dot on to 'TIMED BOOST' when you set timer for 'BOOST PROGRAMME'.

Few questions,
What's the difference between the offpeak programme timer and boost programme timer?
what's the summer and winter setting used for?
So will the "timed" light be on only when the water is being heated?
I know the Horstmann timer is connected to two immersion heaters (top and bottom) and the tank is a thermal store always filled with water. During timed program the lower immersion is switched On and during boost the upper immersion heater. The boost is used when additional hot water is needed.
The controller summer or winter timings are automatic and cannot be changed manually. This is set by manufacturer during installation of boiler/controller based on your location. The controller automatically switches time during daylight saving.
Yes, the timed light will be On when the water is being heated.
Thanks bro❤❤
Hey, Glad the video was useful :-)
Would you say 3AM to 4AM be enough to heat up a water tank that is quite small? and what if I use all of the hot water, would that mean I need to use the boost or would it heat itself back up?
Hey, The timer running time depends on volume of your boiler and consumption of hot water. For example, If the volume is low and consumptions is high then timer needs to come on very frequently. During winters you may need to have the timer on for longer duration as incoming water temperature is low. You may need to experiment so to know how long and frequency the timer needs to be on.

Great video, much better than the terrible manual provided by the manufacturer
Hi Brad, Glad you liked it!

The black dot is just an indication for summer or winter time and doesn't need any adjustments.
does this also work for radiators? my storage heaters only work at night but NOT in the day
Hey, I guess so but please connect with manufacturer before making a decision. As I know most of the electrical radiators come with programming mode and this controller may not be required.
Thanks for doing this, helped me setup right 👍
Great to hear! :-)
Hi, if I didn’t want time programmed and always wanted my boiler on, should I leave the main switch off instead of ‘timed’?
Hey, Sry, not sure why green light on 'Timed'. Can you please connect with service engineer to get this checked pls?
Should the led light up when manual boost is selected? If so it doesn’t on mine.

How do I find the meter reading on this product though? Thanks for the help on setting it though. Very useful
Hey Marcus, Sry, the device doesn't have the function to read meter reading.

@@bicyclecolours8988 hi, no they are connected to 1 megaflow cyclinder
Thanks very useful video

Very useful video. Wondering if I can change the system from summer to winter? The hot water from the boiler has a weird smell and taste (smells like something sweet but in a bad way). Wondering if that is the reason?
Hi Shazmeen, The controller cannot be changed for summer or winter timings manually. This is set by manufacturer during installation of boiler/controller based on your location. The controller automatically switches time during daylight saving.
It's recommended you connect with an electrician or boiler manufacturer regarding the water quality from boiler.

Hi Paula, Good to know about the fuse switch, hope you continue to keep it in off position then.

Hi I set all 3 off peak intervals “off” by setting them all with the same on and off time as you instructed . Will this result in me having hot water running all day or will I end up with no hot water at all now?
Hi Wahid, Setting all 3 off peak intervals at same time will result NO hot water supply.
Thank you for this video:)
You are so welcome! :-)

Hi Baris, Thanks for a note of appreciation :-)
As you have only standard energy tariff, both 'Off Peak Programme' and 'Boost Programme' should result in same energy consumption depending upon your hot water requirement.
Under my programmer I have a “boost” and “tracer” switch. Should I leave both of these on?
Thank you so much!!
You're welcome! :-)
Hello friend,
I'm having trouble with working my off peak settings.
The four black dots are showing and even after resetting nothing changes, still the same
Hi, sad to know about the issue, good to contact service engineer.
If the timed light is illuminated is the boiler working ?
Hi, When the timed light is illuminated it indicates the power supply to boiler is On.
There should be some indication on boiler to say it is working.

Hi, The TIMED light will be on when the Boost programme in running. During manual Boost (video demo starts at 2:08) the Boost button will glow.
@@bicyclecolours8988what about ‘switched output’ ? What does that do please
How can increase the temperature of hot water ,mine is not giving hot water rather then giving a mild warm water
Hi, The temperature setting can be only done in boiler and not in controller.
Just to understand is the hot water temperature always low right from the beginning? Over the period of time when hot water is being used the temperature slowly starts to lower in the end. If this is the case then you need to start the boiler in short intervals.
Hi,
I’m experiencing a problem, will the switch that you flipped in the start of the video switching from off to timed, be flipped back automatically? I often have the switch on the timed position but see it flipped back to the off position later in the week. I’m really confused as none of our family members touched the switch.
Thank you so much.
Hi, It's never possible the Switch be automatically flipped from Timed to Off position.
Can you please check if the switch is broken and it springs back after a while or there is a high probability someone has touched it accidentally.

Hi, Sry not sure about old electric 7.

Hi, The controller has inbuilt battery and your setup will remain even if you switch off and start after a while.
Our water has run out today and I need a shower still, I've pushed the boost button for the third time now and it is still boosting, does it boost every time I push it and will it give me more hot water if I push it another 2 times? Thanks.
Hey, Yes, when you push boost button the boiler will run for an hour and stop. This will happen as many times as you push boost in a day.
Hi,
Will the heating turn on automatically at night or do we need to set the off peak timings?
If I turn off all the 3 off peak timings will the I have hot water in the morning?
I am not sure if I am doing the right thing by setting off peak for 5 hours..my unit consumption has gone up too.
Please advise
Thanks
Hi Abdul,
The heating will not turn on automatically at night. You need to set off peak timings.
If you turn off all the 3 off peak timings then you will not have hot water in the morning.
Initially you can set off peak timing for 2 hours and amend to increase hours later based on your hot water consumption.
Hi,
Many Thanks, Much appreciated! 👍
Cheers :-)
After these settings are amended is there a certain amount of time you need to wait for the hot water to come through?
Hey, I would recommend to start using hot water after the boiler is off. Hope I answered your question.
Hello thanks for the video! I want to know should I set all three timers ? I have lower electricity rates between 12am to 6am and I have set all three timers for this period, is this correct?
Hey, Glad to know video was helpful :-)
Setting controller timer allows boiler to get switched On when temperature of water gets lowered in the storage.
Many thanks for your prompt reply, and thanks for the clear video 🎉
Take care, Cheers!
Can you set the boiler to provide only hot water without central heating?
Hi Mihai, This setting needs to be done on boiler. The controller only programs boiler switch on and off timer.

Hi, Happy to know video was helpful.
You're welcome :-)
I have mine set to run from 7 am to 8 am and then 4 pm to 5 pm. i take one shower in the morning when its done heating, but only get 3 minutes of hot water and then it goes lukewarm. It seems to last much longer while washing dishes. How can i fix this?
Hi, The best guess that I could make is the manual/thermostatic setup for shower mixer isn't working well. Check if you recently amde changes for winter and setup is disturbed. The temperature setup for tap is always different than shower. The other reasons could be like -
- Boiler is supplying hot water to radiator and shower at the same time.
Is it meant to switch to ‘summer’ or ‘winter’ automatically?
Hi Jamie, Yes, the controller needs to switch automatically between summer and winter.
Still struggling to get the right settings when we have friends coming to stay over :(
Thank you in advance 🙏🏻
Hi Vanessa, Glad the video was useful.
The timer setup completely depends on your hot water usage. You need to consider hot water use in kitchen and other hand washing areas. I would recommend set the timer for 2 hours each in the morning and evening. Later observe your usage and gradually reduce the heating period by 15 minutes and check if that effects any hot water shortfalls.
@@bicyclecolours8988 That’s a very useful suggestion! Thank you so much :)
Cheers Vanessa!
To program my hour and minutes are not blinking.. what should I do..?
Hello please help, i want to keep heater on all day as my work schedule changes daily so can set a specific time, how do i set that?
How to set winter time? Is it important to change?

thanks for this. But im set the timed step is same for you (3 times) ,the light isn’t work.
Hey Layla, The red LED light will only come up when the timer is On. Hope in your case it is same.
When I set the timer for off peak will this set all 7 days
Hi Anthony, Yes… the setting is applicable for all 7 days of the week.
Thank you
If i set the boost timer does the boost light goes on or not
Even though my boiler is in boost program there is no boost light
That’s why I think my boost program is not working
Can you plz help me with this
Hi Hamza, The boost light will not go on during boost timer instead the red LED (Timed) will light up when the boiler is running.
Such useful video but whenI tried the same and I have the same timer but it didn’t work 😢 the second timer is not getting switched off
Hi Vedika, Can you please check if you setup second timer On and Off at the same time. I hope you didn't miss out AM and PM part during setup.
I'm going away on holiday, how do I turn the Timer Off whilst I am away?
Hi Brian, You can turn the switch to 'OFF' position when you are away. The program stays the same when you switch it back after your holiday.
Finished the timer, the light will on or off?
Hi, The light will glow between timer switched ON and OFF period.
Hi - great video! How do I keep the boiler running 24 hours of the day?
Hi Charsii, Thanks for your note of appreciation.
You can set controller timer at frequent intervals so boiler gets switched On when temperature of water gets lowered in the storage. The boiler gets auto switched Off when it has reached to set temperature.
Hi, please can you help, the water is cold and I tried to make it hot but it is not working
Hi, Seems like there is some issue with temperature setup in the boiler. If this is the case then recommended to connect with boiler service engineer.
Please note the Horstmann Electronic is only meant for timer setup.
mine is NOT switching from winter to bst automaticly
Hi Ian Terrell, This is factory setting. If the auto switching is not happening then you may need to contact service engineer.
I need it to on 24 hrs plz explain me how to set

How do uninstall timed boost?
Hi, Please follow the instruction shown in this video at 2:04.
Hope this helps.
How do I change it to winter ?
Hi, The summer and winter mode are automatic, it's set by manufacturer and comes along during installation. The Clock setup is manual.
I pressed boost button to use manual boost but nothing happens?
Hi Natasha, I guess there could be some issue with the Boost function. Just to understand, is the timer function working well and boiler is able to deliver hot water?
Great video. I don’t know why, but my hot water isn’t working. It works when I boost but doesn’t work as it has been. The heating is fine it’s just the hot water. I’ll look at resetting it.
Hi, Glad you liked the video and hope the hot water issue gets resolved soon.
Hi, I wish your issue gets resolved soon.
What’s ’switched output’ ?
Hi, The Switched Output is just the name of the button and there is no mode linked to it.
@@bicyclecolours8988 thank you
Bro can you please explain me in simple way because untill now I just used to press boost every time whenever I need hot water I dont do anything extra but from last 4 days I don’t know what happened water is not getting hot.
Hey, I understand your prob here... hope you have enough hot water hereafter :-)
How to cancel the security lock😢
Hey, Sorry to say the security lock settings cannot be altered after being set by the installer. You may need to contact property owner to make any changes.
