I have made several of the shrimp...I think they are so cute! Rather than make them in two pieces, I crochet across the back in one row by crocheting in blo increasing the size of the stitch, then decreasing the size of the stitch, ch, turn and repeat. That keeps the ridges consistent on both sides of the shrimp and only requires one seam on the bottom. I also increase the head of the shrimp to one more row of 10 stitches before creating the body. This gives the little guy a bigger body. I am adding them to my "under the sea ornament collection, as well as making Emotional Support Shrimp keychains. Thank you so much for sharing.😊
For those of you asking for a pattern, since it's not my design, I don't think it would be appropriate for me to share that. If the designer would like, I would be happy to write it down for her.
Thank you for the new hyperfixation! Now I'm making shrimps for all my friends and family for Christmas. What I also love about this is that I can just stuff it with scrap yarn! ❤❤
Thank you so so much for the tutorial! I am pants at crocheting but thanks to your instructions, I made my very first shrimp (pausing the video a lot of times but it was super clear!). One reason many people want to crochet shrimp may be because of the very well known Chinese actor and singer Xiao Zhan - his fans are called "shrimps" (小飞侠 in Chinese) and there are tens of millions of them not just in China! So everything related to the cute and funny shrimp is liked and shared, given as a gift or made to keep. I am an auntie shrimp myself and will crochet many shrimps to gift. Thank you again, I had a lot of fun crocheting away!
Thank you so much for this free tutorial, Its so nice to be able to hve YOU explaine all the details, ans tell stories around what you're making! Unfortunetly some of us are not in a position right now to access paid workshops with you etc, so this is a superb opportunity and it is deeply appreciated, THANK YOU! I will be making dozen of cuties shrinps, and give them to all my friends!!!😁
Thanks so much for your thoughtful comment! Filming & editing crochet tutorials really does take a lot of time, so anything I post on RUclips is definitely a labor of love and a gift of time I don't have a lot of anymore. I hope you and your friends enjoy your shrimpies!!!!
I love that this pattern isn't in the round -- it gets so hard to see the stitches in super small round things, and BLO would be even harder. My little shrimp came out great and is so accurately proportioned -- much better than another pattern I've tried! Thank you!
aw thank you for your feedback!! everyone has their different preferences and I'm happy some people can make the edits that they need but also happy when my version works out for others :)
Such a lovely tutorial! I have an inside joke with my friend about shrimp and I honestly thought it was too much of an obscure thing to have a tutorial, but this was so easy and fun! I’m making her one for her birthday :)
I'm with you! I thought shrimp would be totally obscure but people love this pattern and always find it hehe!!! Wonder what the next new shrimp is going to be?!?!?!?
To make both sides match, for the second side of the shrimp, instead of doing a BLO do a FLO (with the front of yarn of the loop, instead of doing it with the back one) if this comment can be pinned, itll help others :)
I love this! I'm making little hats and accessories for them to give to all my friends for Christmas. Also to get the shell details on both sides to line up, I start the back loop only section 1 row earlier on one of the pieces, it seems to work pretty well. 🦐🦐

Great tutorial! I'm making some mini versions of these for my D&D campaign. The players will be competing in a cooking competition where they have to battle monstrous 8-foot shrimp to prepare giant shrimp cakes! These little guys will make the perfect miniatures
Doesn't really work as the ridges are then more symmetrical, but they come out quite flat when worked in the front loop. I tried it though and while stitching together i will run through the ridges to make the edges sharper.
