SAA is back! (amazing A330 flight)

- An epic day onboard the South African Airways A330 awaits as we fly from Cape Town to Johannesburg with ramp access, early boarding, a seat on the flight deck for takeoff and landing and a business class seat to sample the lunch and wine service onboard SAA. Also watch out for the go-around in front of us as we wait to line up on the runway for takeoff; and listen out for the reason behind it! This has got to be the best way to fly between Cape Town and Johannesburg at the moment - do you agree?

The service and smiles were not just for the camera. SAA staff are always like that. Nothing is ever too much for them
True. They're exceptionally lovely and warm. Evdn by African standards.
In terms of hospitality no one beats SAA!
I flew the SAA A330 between Cape Town and São Paulo in November 2023 - the service from the cabin crew was outstanding! South African hospitality at its best. They are true ambassadors of our country. Keep it up SAA! 🇿🇦 Thank you for taking us along with you on this and the JNB-PER journey, Gabe. Great to see the behind-the-scenes of the airline. 👌🏼
Going to South Africa and not having wine is actually crazy! Most of the best wines I've ever had came from South Africa. I've even went twice from London To Johannesburg and Cape Town just for their wine festivals.
I grew up in Stellenbosch (just outside Cape Town) and did a PPL from Fisantekraal, frequently doing touch and go's at Cape Town. I left in 2018 to move to the UK to pursue a career flying and I'm now flying the airbus over here for a UK carrier. In all honesty though, the 15-year-old in me watches this with such a smile; the scenery, accents, ATC, the crew... it is all so brilliant. So much nostalgia seeing these great ladies and gentlemen flying the flag! keep up the great work - more SAA features please!
I was at Morningstar, now at Bristol Ground School doing ATPLs. UK citizen but hope we can fly in Africa one day.
love it
Hi Gabe. As a capetownian I say for all us avgeeks down here thanks so much for your behind the scenes views of saa. It's not everyday that we get to see our city from the sky and it's even rarer to see the cockpits of our planes and to hear our unique accents on atc.
As a Cape Townian Avgeek ,Im here for the support
I’m surprised so many South Africans are in this comment section with all the load shedding they have. 💀🤣
If it’s SAA of course it’s stunning!
GIVE THIS MAN CITIZENSHIP !!! 🇿🇦🇿🇦
He's American. He doesn't need it, lol.
@@sithabelamandlawenkosiwodu6298 maybe he wants to visit Cuba
Thanks alot for showcasing our NATIONAL AIRLINE proudly South african🇿🇦
Wow, the air host gentleman serving you has been with SAA for donkey years. Still showing the same energy!
Flown on SAA many times and even in economy there is always good food service - actually the best in the business. So happy to see them back in business.
I'm confused, this channel should have more subscribers, all other avchannels mostly do reviews only but this here is high quality, from cockpits to behind the scenes to special flight days it has it all, heck it has the best aviation app as well lol. Even the video production, from the video editing itself to the thumbnail and caption. Truly amazing.
SAA cuisine and wine selection have always been top notch ❤
Yup!
The A330 really is a very fine plane
I a South African living in Hong Kong,i love both SAA videos , can't wait for London and New York Return
Love your videos. The last time I flew SAA was in 2019, with my parents, to go to my aunt's memorial. Mom just lost her dear sister. SAA didn't know this but we were treated so kindly that it was as if they knew. SAA is awesome. From check-in to arrival, we were in good hands and cared for.
I am so happy to see your good reviews of South African! ❤❤❤❤
What a fresh take on this iconic carrier . . . such nice positivity, we could all learn a thing or two from this grootman!
SAA is always top notch!! ❤
Thanks man, I've already seen your JHB to Perth video and it was phenomenal.
We're going to the polls in a few days, we hope we don't descent to darker times as a country. Especially with so many interested "foreign" parties.
Oh yes, another SAA video 🥳 Love from a South African Avgeek ❤
Wooooooooow what a reception from the staff even the crew
I'm so glad to see SAA back. I can't wait for more of the pre-covid routes to be opened up again, always a treat to fly with our national carrier 🇿🇦🥹
Congrats 🥂 for 200k subs. Thank you for flying with SAA, noticing the excellent service from the cabin crew
Thanks so much!
Whoaw!!! What a wonderful flight on A330, S.A.A. I enjoyed watching it. Please bring us more.
Thanks, will do!
Great trip review. Happy to see SAA back in business.
This is so beautiful to watch! I am flight attendant based in USA, growing up it was always my dream to work for SAA. Hopefully the route from the US to SA will be back one of these days ❤️
Please continue to make more of these videos on SAA specifically...this is great stuff ❤
You are the best airline reviewer hands down Gabe. 👏
Wow, thanks!

Just finished watching your video on SA to Perth now your videos are so addictive ❤
The Cabin Looking The Same As SAS And Qantas. What A Great Video
Lovely SA
Your videos make it seem like all is right with the world as you fly around and it is a welcome relief for a little while each Friday. Thanks for the interesting videos.
Remember in the mid. 9O.i flew many times when Capetown had only stairs positions ad the 747 super B flew that routing.. Thanks gabe
So glad our national airline is back in business. Good services as always
Another SAA, LOVE IT! ❤
That ramp view is insane!
Great video!
So proud of my country 🇿🇦❤️
Any cheeky a350 content coming up? Like the polar route one…? That was interesting
It's just ever so lekker to hear that SA accent by ATC and the others. Cool flight, cool video!!
Agree! Very lekker 😄
Great stuff, Gabriel! The mighty "SpringBok" rises once again! Thank you!
SAA is great - great work nice views FR24- I still think you should paint Airbus and Boeing planes according to their size 😇I could swear the other day I was looking at an A330 and a 737Max and they were both the same size. That said, FR24 is one of my favourite sites 👍
Great video and appears to be a wonderful airline with genuinely nice crews.
Thank you for these videos. I have so much hope in the SAA. May they fly high 💪🏾
Flew this route. many times in the early Seventies, had steak and egg on the early morning flights, many thanks for the memory recall.
Awesome meeting you Gabe. Love the review.
I hope that SAA can return to its former glory. They seem like they're on the right track👍🏻
Really? Are you serious as a South African after all the massive corruption by the ANC in SAA🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂🤦♂
Respect for aviation✌️✈️
Thank you for the video and what a fantastic crew.
Hi Gabe, This was another very enjoyable video. I spend most of my time within 5 miles of home, so it is gr8 to see the world beyond Cleveland and Parma, Ohio...RogerC 5/17/24
Beautiful, bloody beautiful. SAA keep us proud.
great production. Top class
Beautiful Iron Bird ❤❤❤❤ live it. Amazing video. Thank you 🙏🏾
I must say, the vlog music on FlightRadar's videos are super awesome!
Great content , I've been enjoying myself so much.
I miss flying that beauty. Thanks for an awesome, professional review.
Great vid thanks for this 🙏🏼
❤Thanks again
Nice video. Tack
Great seeing Proflight Zambia 9J-PZA featuring! Representing my country 😅🎉
Salut Gabe, thank you very much for this flight.
Merci beaucoup pour ce merveilleux vol, tu rends un vol fort intéressant et c'est très très apprécié. Merci !
What a nice review
As always, a great video. On my 32" monitor it is like being in the cockpit with you. I look forward to Friday with you.
A330 flies to Accra and Lagos as well
Epic video! Love to try SAA...✈️✈️✈️
ah my home town airport cape town. love this place
Hey, I just want to say thanks for making the video, but you called my dad “The first officer”, he is not a first officer he is a Senior Captain. The man that was in the Captain seat was doing his first solo flight of the A330 and my dad had to monitor him, because my dad had more experience than him. So I just thought to point that out. Anyway thanks 😊
Since he didn't want to be shown at all or identified in any way there's no need to identify him by his correct position and title - in fact it makes sense not to! Had he been in the video of course that would have been pointed out.
Solo flight?
@@Foxez13 Yes, “Solo Flight”, the term commonly used when a person does their first flight of an airplane, but alone. However in SAA, the term is used when a pilot does his conversion on an new airplane, with someone monitoring them, just in case.
Stunning vid!
Thanks!
Only in South Africa will you see so much trust or a new route been give a black captain and a black female being the first officer. We can't deny the importance of this in SA
I always have the Anura Chardonnay in SAA flights everytime...
A330/A350 far superior aircraft to the 787 Dreamliner especially on long haul in my opinion. At least, with Airbus you don't have the cabin crew deciding for you when to blank out the windows as they doe on the Boeing 787. It's my money, I'll decide that thank you very much !
Gabe's got a hi-viz vest on. Cool stuff coming! 😁
Crew is quite charming
Another great vlog Gabriel wish I could be in a vlog Ona a rare aircraft flight but probably is pretty impossible and also need to fastrack a new passport but wud do if possible but once again coool vlog 😊😊😊
Hey Gabe, great video as always maybe consider Uganda airlines sometime in the future 🙃
NICE
Wow you are treating us with the SAA content
As a rampy, it’s surprising that a lot of the bigger bypass engines are quieter (at idle) than the smaller ones like that of 737’s, F70, E190, etc.
MR FLIGHTRADAR -Please do SAO PAULA as well ,I LOVE Your Videos
I just subscribed to the channel.
🔥🔥🔥❤️
Saw that one Perth
aweeeh!
Love the video Gabe! I’m wondering if you would ever be granted cockpit access in the Us or Eu? It seems like the security requirements might be different from country to country. Is that correct?
Yes, that's particularly the case with the US where it is flat-out impossible. Also the UK. Few other places that I know of have definitive national or regional rules about it - it's just up to the airlines. The EU has no such rules (I've done a number of EU airlines). Thanks for the support!
Very cool thanks 21:19
is there a fedair flight review, heard you were flying with them
Yep in a couple weeks.
hi Gabe. please do a flysafair flight on a 737 800
wow! just blank the FO for the whole video!
Gud afternoon everyone from malpeensa airport milano
I agree with ppl on the comments, flying around the South of Africa should be more frequent (I meant do videos like this) we are tired of seen flying around US Europe Asia, Africa needs to be more explored by Aviation RUclips.
Agree!
@@Flightradar24DotCom by the way I live at Mozambique neighbor country of SA. You should try to Flight LAM I can help you with them
Kurt esband is always the best
This flight already exists with Qantas airlines, and I've been on this truly sensational trip.
Qantas does not currently fly this route.
@@Flightradar24DotCom Ohhh my friend, I'm sorry I spelled it wrong, it's a flight from Johannesburg to Sydney. Thanks for the correction. 👍🏾
The plane with a hairblower for an engine.
Nice zouth african ladies as i am south african😅❤
The Seats
What's a PAU and why was she asking for a PAU for tall people? Could help if you could just translate this aviation terminology for us. Thanks!
A “passenger aid unit” used to assist those in wheelchairs getting on and off the plane.
🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Come to Mozambique please. LAM
I remember when SAA was a real company...Not any more.
Enjoy it for what it is.
Let's not be negative and hope for the best. SAA will return to it's former glory
Possible for me today please I want to know please because I'm here in malpeensa airport milano
