I'm listening to metal for almost 20 years now. I started my journey at a very young age. My journey went backwards. I started with nu metal. But the older I got the more I got into classic metal. I like the riffs and the raw energy of it. Now I prefer more the classic metal bands or even hardrock. But I still love nu metal.

Never understood why Nu Metal has gotten the hate it has over the years, maybe because of its hip hop influence and groove? But as someone who loves both metal and rap, it’s the perfect segway between genres. No two genres sound better together imo.
Honestly both Metal and Rap are effectively cousins that share Jazz as a common ancestor going back far enough, so it only makes sense that they'd make great things when they come together.
Agree. Despite the hate, nu metal in general kept metal relevant with the general music listeners. Back in the 2000s era, nu metal songs were relatively well represented on air. I can not say the same about metalcore these days. Not even the rock channel play any metalcore in my country. But they did go back to metal of the 80s, 90s & early 2000s era.

I personally more of a nu metal fan since I quite literally grew up with the genre (especially with Limp Bizkit), but I still respect the classics from the 70s and the 80s

Old school metal... All played I standard tuning. The Nu metal choices there were all over the place tuning wise. Korn being the closest to a standard tuning when you take the extra string into account. Love the tone this guy uses.

I have witnessed and listened to both old school metal and nu metal bands from the 80's to late 90's up to early 2000's. All I can say is that all of them sounds awesome!
I got into metal right at the end of middle school. At the time, Nu Metal was blowing up and taking over. No one I knew even referred to it as "Nu" Metal. It was just metal. We didn't really separate between the likes of Korn vs Metallica. It was all part of the same family. It wasn't until I got out of highschool and onto message boards that I learned about all the hate that Nu Metal was getting. It actually threw me pretty hard at the time. And for awhile, I kinda veered away from the Nu Metal side of things because I was a little self-conscious about not being "metal enough". That sentiment died out pretty quickly though; as ultimately I wasn't going to stop enjoying the music for the sake of other people's opinions. And while it's definitely taken awhile, I'm super happy to see that Nu Metal has clawed back a lot of the love that the gatekeepers and elitists tried to deprive it of. People are starting to just enjoy it and respect it for what it is; instead of what it's not. And if some folks aren't into it, that's perfectly cool. I'm definitely not into every sub-genre of metal. But, I think it's important that we keep the respect moving back and forth. And that's why I really like this video. It's not taking the piss outta Nu Metal; it's just showcasing the things that make it different, but also similar. And that's what we as fans need to keep at heart.

And for awhile, I kinda veered away from the Nu Metal side of things because I was a little self-conscious about not being "metal enough". That sentiment died out pretty quickly though; as ultimately I wasn't going to stop enjoying the music for the sake of other people's opinions. And while it's definitely taken awhile, I'm super happy to see that Nu Metal has clawed back a lot of the love that the gatekeepers and elitists tried to deprive it of. People are starting to just enjoy it and respect it for what it is; instead of what it's not. And if some folks aren't into it, that's perfectly cool. I'm definitely not into every sub-genre of metal. But, I think it's important that we keep the respect moving back and forth. And that's why I really like this video. It's not taking the piss outta Nu Metal; it's just showcasing the things that make it different, but also similar. And that's what we as fans need to keep at heart.

For most of my generation though, Nu-Metal is starting to be considered old-school in a lot of ways.
(Disclaimer) Old-school doesn't mean bad, I enjoy Lorna Shore aswell as Metallica and everything in between.
