Thank you so much! I was actually trying to get a quick overview of Dr Spock, and realized that what I had been told about him, as actually how you characterized the parenting norms before his time.

First off great job! your presentation sounded awesome! Secondly, I have heard about parents leaving their children to cry in their cribs at night, but I never heard of this strict feeding schedule thing before. That is just insane to me! imagine not feeding a 1-year-old when they are hungry! I am glad that my childhood was a bit different than the one from the 1940's. Again you had a wonderful presentation! Good job!

    Emily,
Awesome presentation! I followed you very clearly and understood well. I love that you related Spock's research to the classroom through positive mental health and support for our students. Sometimes I feel as if schools can get too carried away with rules, procedures, and being neat and tidy, when really our students need love and support, especially the younger children. This also hits close to Bronfenbrenner's theory where the influences from the home affect learning. If those needs aren't being met, the child may be unable to learn.
    Good job!

Very nice work, Emily. You have a great speaking voice. Your content for this presentation was very informative and the ideas you presented made me think of the Jensen book for EDU 617 and the First Days of School book for EDU 615. I agree with your statement on the importance of children being loved and cared for. If they do not feel that love, they won't understand why they need to be in the classroom learning. I have repeatedly heard throughout this MAT program that students want to be loved and cared for, and it has definitely shown in the classroom that I am placed in. I like that many of the points and tips for infants can be applied to the classroom.

    Emily,
Nice job! Showing children love is very important. That part of Spock’s theory almost reminds me of Maslow. I think that applying Spock’s ideas to the classroom is a great way to help children excel and feel loved.

Good presentation Emily! First off, I really liked what you said about children and their need for being loved and cared for. In my first grade class, I have some students who really enjoy other students and teachers being nice to them. You can tell that they really brighten up when you talk to them. You did a good job tying the information to class too!
