- We're teaming up with our friends at Newcomer Racing (www.newcomerra... ) to turn this fully stock 1966 AMC Rambler American into a Nostalgia Drag Racer! But before we begin we took our Rambler to CES Motorsport so we can put it on their dyno and find out just how much the little 199 cubic inch straight six is still putting to the rear wheels. The number may surprise you!
Seriously, if you have a Jeep or AMC with a straight six engine and are looking for ways to make power, you should definitely check out Newcomer Racing at www.newcomerra...
Also, big thanks for John at CES Motorsport. If you dig modern BMW's and the latest generation of the Toyota Supra, you should definitely check these folks out! cesmotorsport....
I would be happy to drive that beauty, stock.
So nice to see something other than a Chevy, Ford, or Mopar, and love the straight six plan.
Very cool project. Love the inline 6 engine stuff. I'm old enough to remember that model as a muscle car. Rambler "Machine" and Rambler "Scrambler".
i love old AMCs.. this will be a fun build to see
I built a 69 rambler into a straight axle gasser using a 89 Cherokee 2WD front axle 69 mail Jeep leaf springs, stock rear springs and a mustang 9” bolted right in. I cut the shock towers, built a engine crossmember and put a 454 TH400 in it
Being an AMC fan my whole life. Love what your doing.
That going to be a cool build
love this! On newcomer racings facebook post I guessed 68hp, was off on the torque though guessing 120. Pretty sure I saw 170 lb ft. Thinking stock displacement 4.0 or possible a mini stroker using a AMC 232 crankshaft with the extra weight of the 9'' and the cage ect.
I'm excited to watch this build. What a great fun all around hotrod. I love all the straight sixes. I'm building a Chevy 292 (308) with a billet crank, steel billet rods and billet roller cam all by crower. I have a Ryan Falconer V-12 head. Weiand 6-71 with 2 Quick Fuel 650 DP and 16 jet fogger plate. 5 stage dry sump. Electromotive direct fire EMS. Should be well north of 1000 HP. 5 speed going in my 53 Chevy 1/2 ton drag and drive for the 8.50 class. Thank you for your time.
Nice!
So awesome! Great idea, Jeff.
Hey thanks! And thanks for watching John!
Nice! Should be a fun build.
Always loved Ramblers but its so much funky suspension/steering under them lol, modern suspension and it would be a cruiser for sure
You're definitely right.
What a beautiful little old car
The extra vacuum was to power the windshield wipers
I currently have a 64 Rambler that I bought in 91. Before rebuilding the vacuum wiper motor I had to run a string from one wiper through the car to the other to assist the wipers. Also my first car was a 66 that my dad bought me in the early 70s.
Thank you for something different and cool!
Loved watching this, keep up the good work and keep us posted
Thanks! And thanks for watching!
In the 60s Barney Navarro took a 199 sleeved down to 183CID/3 liters and was getting 600 ponies.
That thing is mint!
At 2400lbs this rambler would do very well with a K24 Turbo.
Cool ill be watching
66 Americans were available with a V-8. Only a 290 but same basic block as the 401.
Great project
Thanks!
Love it!
Can't wait to see what's next...😁😁👍👍
Excellent!
It's amazing how much horse power and torque inline six cylinders can make on a reliable basis. It might be the next LS
Be careful with the rule book for the SEGA. Pretty sure that they don’t allow any technology or parts produced after 1967. No EFI, ECU, 2 step limiters, or rev limiters, boost controllers, stuff like that.
That is correct. Got to be old school except for safety, and I think they allow a more modern distributor than points style. Thanks for watching!
The vacuum pump on the motor, does the car have vacuum windscreen wipers?
Yes.
Name it the "Rooster Booster"
I love it! I've already pitched that one to Keith! Thanks for watching!
Very very awesome.
Hell yeah buddy...... Greetings from india 🇮🇳🤠🤠🤩🤩🙌🏻
We need a update on the progress
Currently, the car is stripped and at a fab shop getting a cage, rear suspension, a new firewall and other stuff put in. It's a waiting game right now. Thanks for watching!
@@TheHorsepowerMonster hay thanks it's gonna be a good watch and learn.
Can't wait to watch your progress!
is the cubic inch to weight limitation with the engine in the car or out? because with the engine out OOF extremely limited in engine size
Total weight with engine, driver, fuel, etc in the car after the run.
I’m wondering how he feels about the new I6 Hurricane from Stellantis.
I think that I spotted a dinosaur at 00:10
Ha!
Delicious!
Tastes like dinosaurs 🦖
Just what do you think chickens are.
What ever happened with the corvette?
Making progress, but it's slow. Hoping to have a new video on that one up this week. Thanks for watching, and thanks for keeping me on task!
The carburettor needs to go straight in the trash, my lawnmower has a bigger one😅
Yup, that thing has the same airflow as a McDonald's straw!
I had a '68 with the 199 automatic. It would do 105 MPH on the freeway, but I found out the hard way it was running lean through that Carter 1 bbl. That stunt ended up requiring a valve job.
Hey what’s up on this I’ve been waiting for the build???
The car is at the fabricator's shop getting a roll cage, new firewall, seat mounts and a few other things. Took longer than expected (doesn't everything?). Hopefully, I'll have updates soon. Thanks for watching, and your patience!
What happened to the Corvette build?
Still working on it. Hope to have a new video on its progress next week. Didn't intend to have multiple projects going on at once, but I'm so slow with the Corvette and this one was too good to resist. Thanks for watching!
@@TheHorsepowerMonster yeah man, thanks for the content
