Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family and your veiwers. Yall have came long ways , u and your wife have did a great job with hard work. Everytime I watched a new video I always think about your beginning. Yall have really came long ways building your farm. I wish y'all well and good health.
This is just superb, been searching for "best chicken coop ideas" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Machaaldity Coop Blaster - (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now ) ? Ive heard some decent things about it and my m8 got great success with it.
You will be happy with your chicken guard door. I have had mine for 18 months. It works great. No more worrying about getting the coop safe at night. Great videos. Thanks
First I want to wish you and Mrs Stoney Ridge a Happy Thankgiving!! Anytime you can automate something and make life easier just do it. You got the farm so you and Mrs Stoney Ridge can enjoy the beauty and life out in the country.
Josh may I suggest putting flashing over your control box for chicken door. Water will get in. glad to know someone has come out with a good one. I built one using a series of relays and window motor
I saw a semi truck sleeper used as a coop ... The guy had a 8 foot x 8 foot x 16 foot covered dog run attached ... Birds put themselves to bed at sunset ... He just went out and latched the run gate ...
I would like a shout out in your next video as I did design that locking door in 2014 and now have moved to the country and love watching your videos. I am watching all your fencing videos and using your tips to secure the farm since I plan on getting more animals and growing my own food, I have ordered my broiler chickens and have watched your video on killing and cleaning them and filling the freezer, I also have a 1947 Allis Chalmers tractor that I made a video on doing the brakes and use for dragging logs to cut up for fire wood and pretty much everything else on the farm. It is amazing how a 71 year old machine starts everytime I need it but can't say the same for my newer cars, lol. Thanks for all the videos Wooooooo
Hey Josh thank you for the video and for taking me along with you and I hope you're having a nice Thanksgiving you and your family so stay safe and God bless
We added one to our coop a few months ago and its a game-changer. Lets our flock out at 6:30am and it closes at dark, such an improvement and we haven't lost a chicken to a preditor since we put it in. Crazy expensive at around $300 but still feel so much safer with it.
I love this channel, I am in NY and I plan to retire 5-10 years and move to NC. Always wanted a farm, you are making me want it more. Going to be nice to have fresh egg's and honey....
Looks like a great idea, and more effort towards automation (making the homestead easier). One issue that occurred to me to watch out for... debris blowing, or being tracked into the doorway, preventing the locking mechanism from doing its job. I hope it works great, anything that reduces even the smallest chores is a good thing!
Great video as always. No it’s not the Taj Mahal, but 100% agree with doing a good job on anything and everything. Been watching for about a year now. Have learned so much about equipment, growing, animals, but most importantly, mental positivity, even when things don’t go so well. Happy Thanksgiving Josh.
nice video, you should swap out the straw with sand in the run and in the coop, its a game changer when it comes to cleaning. get some nest pads and take out the straw from your nest boxes also. Thanks for the video.
I used a cheap electronic magnet a spring and a timer really super simple if you have power to your coop not self closing but we need to check the chickens a couple times a day anyway so this was a really good compromise for us ...the spring I used was just a screen door spring $3 at TS ...the door magnet was Amazon I think less than $15 and any timer with on and off will work ....All told it was less than $30 and foolproof! I set the timer to energize like at 5pm and turns off at sunrise time....we simply go down every night and make sure door is clear and just pull it closed so the magnet holds it then with the timer denergizes the spring yanks the door open! Cheap and simple! You could also use a 12v magnet and a battery and have a little solar charger to charge the battery ....worse case if the battery crapped out early the door simply opens as opposed to the fully automated doors which I would just stay closed ....a disaster if you are away on a weekend
With a little planing you could have only cut the wire where you want the opening (bottom half) for the birds. Then mount the frame of the sliding hardware over the wire hence you'd not have to add a separate piece of wire for the top portion of the door opening.
I’m going to plant some gourd next week. Does the foliage stay all year? Also, I saw a video a lady said to leave the gourd on the vine for two to three months to dry them out then cut them and store them to finish drying. What do you do to keep them from rotting?
I have one of these in my new coop/run Works well, easy to setup, bout 6 months so far havne't had to change batteries yet. Have a Ladies First on my old coop, it works good as well but has a solar powered panel to charge the batteries AND open and close the door. However, MICE seem to think the cord to the panel is licorice and they LOVED it. Had to fix the cord then run it in aluminum, flexible conduit to keep it from getting nibbled. Funny, they don't chew the panel to the remote door switch which uses a phone cord, but it's all safe now.
That only works if your chickens all are on same patern. We currently have 4 hens and a duck that insist on staying out till the skunks show up.....getting locked out everytime. It also doesnt like our cold in maine. Our chickens were all raised together and used to all go in before dark till they started staying out till verry dark then stumble in like teenagers on a drunk. This spring our son steped up and took over the poultry. He just turned 9. But this spring he took over and only thing he needs help with is cleaning now and then or health issue or somthing different that dont seem right. That ended up being best automatic door lol.
Thank you for doing this video! I am currently having a coop built and want to put in one of these doors. What is the rough opening size I will need? Thanks
Happy Thanksgiving ! Ok...I'll admit to laughing and talking to the computer when you cut the wire.....GLAD you caught it....maybe you heard me Laughing?
Looks good you need to add a layer of smaller holed wire 2 feet up at least all the way around the run to keep predators out- the larger holes in your fence are too large-max 1” holes, preferably 1/2 in hardware cloth!
Happy Thanksgiving Josh to you and Mrs stoney ridge!! Love what you have done to the farm since the beginning. I keep getting unsubbed from y'all's channel so you may want to make sure everyone knows to check and make sure they don't get deleted. Ticks me off cause I love your content. I watch with my 8yr old as part of his homeschooling at first but now he just loves to watch and don't even know he's learning!!!! Lol. Thanks for that. I would love to bring him up there one day to let him see all that you do around there.
Thank you for your video. I have a couple of questions. Since installing your Chicken Guard door have you had “ANY” problems with it? I would like to program it to open and close at a certain time each day. Can I do that with this door? I’ve had trouble programming another door we bought. When did you install this? Thanks again, Dennis
no problems other than wood expands and contracts...take that into account...also battery gets low..just change it..needs solar setup in my opinion...just changed after 3 years of use !
Seems like the door and opener should be on the inside of the coop. A racoon or fox will figure out pretty quick that they can pull on that rope to unlatch the door.
I'm getting ready to go on vacation and want to automate my chicken coop. How is the automatic door you featured in this video? Is it still working well? Have you had any problems with it?
If you don't want your bee to fly in the tree ,when they swarm do this....Take a beehive box with 3 frames with comb and put it on 3 fits post.Put 3 drops of lemon grass esential oil on each frame and you will see MAGIG,the swarm goes directly in that box.Make sure you wil let a little gap between the roof and the box,so they can smell the esential lemon grass oil.
I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving Day and all is fine there. That system you put in looks nice and the chickens will have to get use to it and I hope it keeps the predators like the coyotes, foxes, and larger out, but the snakes will be able to get in and you have to look out for them during the warmer months.
Hi, thanks for your video! So, what kind of door do you have on the actual coop? Is that just a regular manual door on the coop? Wouldn’t you want that one to be Automattic as well? Just asking because we are building our first coop and run right now and trying to decide how to do the door to the coop. Thanks!
Stoney Ridge Farmer thanks Josh. Been looking at one for my coop. I have Buff Orpington’s/ light Sussex / Bluebells and Cream legbars all awesome chucks
Newer subscriber from West Virginia 👋🏼👋🏼👋🏼😀...I am assuming you won’t have to worry about closing the door on the roost unless the weather gets too cold????
You’ve said in a past video that chicken poop can contain illness, which is why kids need to wash their hands after handling birds. With that said, is it safe for chicken poop to be in your garden if it hasn’t had time to compost?
....shoot man...a darn 2x4 is $10 bucks nowadays lol $200 might buy 5 days worth of groceries...the chickens give me 5 years worth of eggs right! Woooo! Like 99% of your comment....bhahahha
So I just purchased this same door. (Through your account I hope.) What I didn't know was that there would be a large gap at the top of the door. I purchased this for the coop itself as the main door for the chickens. Thoughts on how to seal the top?
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family and your veiwers. Yall have came long ways , u and your wife have did a great job with hard work. Everytime I watched a new video I always think about your beginning. Yall have really came long ways building your farm. I wish y'all well and good health.

Great video! Thanks for giving us a tour of your coop. I am always interested in the designs of other coops.
Enjoyed the video Josh. Seems to be a simple installation. Thanks for sharing.

Happy Thanksgiving Josh and Mrs Stoneyridge! Great video.. good stuff man!
I like the washer thing for your door
Always great videos. Thank you.
I was hoping that you would end it with us seeing how the chickens go in and out, the great job thank you
I'm seeing they you're really progressing on your homestead. Congratulations and happy thanksgiving!
Nice chicken and nice farmer !
I built one of these a few years ago using an Arduino but I got hung up on the issue if debris gets stuck under the door and it cant close.
That looks like a perfect upgrade to my chicken coop. Thanks for sharing

This is good stuff. Thanks for this content as I am building a coop for some chickens by early summer! 👍

We. Love the look apower house 🐻 man o man woff woff
How are you enjoying the door kit after a couple years? I just bought one recently. I’d love to hear your feedback!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
I noticed you don't have any kind of preditor netting or such over your garden space. How do you keep chicken hawks from getting to you chickens?
That only works if your chickens all are on same patern. We currently have 4 hens and a duck that insist on staying out till the skunks show up.....getting locked out everytime. How long that motor lasted? have read lots of reviews saying the thing stopped working after about 3 months.
Pretty cool 🤙

$200 for an automatic Chicken door. That's crazy money. I need to start a channel. I love 99% of your videos.

Fantastic!
Happy Tgiving to the Josh Family homestead!!!!
Happy Thanksgiving Stoney Ridge!
I miss the farm content and less gadgets.
Happy Thanksgiving
I was wondering about your cut as soon as you cut the work wire. Tried to yell at you but you didn’t hear me. Still a nice job.
Looks like Greg can escape above the door
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family
And thanks for your advice
Happy Thanksgiving!
That’s funny I saw as you were doing it that was going to happen 😂
how long is that string going to last can it be replaced
I'm certain it can be replaced if needed
Next an automatic waterer feeder manure cleaner and egg gatherer..Hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving
Hi Tech Chickens
