    I think this is the only show online, where the host gets more drunk, as the show goes on... I believe this should be done across the board 😎 once again thank your for another kickass show, and next time end with this mark twain qoute: too much of something is bad for you, but too much good whisky is barely enough! 🥃

    Just snagged a bottle of A'bunadh batch 67 at 59.8%. Definitely gotta work harder to pick out the flavors but it's a nice change of pace from the lighter whisky I've enjoyed as of late

    Hey guys, I have recently discovered you guys. And you made me go from enjoying whisky to really tasting it and discover it. I received a fantastic whisky that is distilled here in Belgium. Which is the Gouden Carolus Single Malt. Gouden Carolus is also a very good beer brand from Mechelen, which is not far from my town. And they make some incredible beers. And they use one of their beers, the Gouden Carolus Triple, as an extra ingredient to this whisky. Maybe you could do a review about this one. That would make me a very happy man. Greetings from Belgium

      If I can get it, we'll do it! Glad you're watching!
      Last time I was in Belgium it was to see Van Morrison perform at a folk festival in the middle of a field near Brussels. It was awesome and Belgium was beautiful. cheers!

    The Abunadh is one of those whiskies that you absolutely have to add water. Just a few drops really tones down that immense smack in the face blast, and allows the whisky to show its complexity. Using your analogy: it converts Motörhead into James Taylor. Cheers guys.

    1. I've tried all the Johnnie Walker "colours" (blue is $300 here in Ontario, btw) and the Green is easily the best one, imho.
    2. Recipe for a Churchill Martini, pour 2-3 oz of Gin in a Martini glass, stare into the general direction of France (large producer of vermouth) and consume the Martini.
    3. Sweet vermouth (the red one) is essential for a Manhattan. Awful on its own, for sure, but who's going to turn down a Manhattan?

    Finally opend a bottle of batch 58 last weekend that I had standing around for quite some time. Aberlour 18 is one of my Top 10 whiskys, but this is a totally different beast. I liked it, but it requires some work to get it watered down to it's peak performance.

    The two standard types of vermouth are dry and sweet, dry is also called white vermouth and sweet is red. Dry is primarily known for being used in martinis, and sweet is used commonly in the Manhattan and Rob Roy(though that one uses both usually).

      There is punt e mes vermouth. Similar to campari very bitter. Mix equal parts punt e mes with sweet vermouth like dolin rouge and you have the perfect Manhattan.

    Rebel Yell is $10.99 in Santa Barbara, CA (c. 2019). Wheated bourbon, like MM (not rye for 2nd grain). Not too shabby, and makes a decent soda highball. Especially if you drink half-a-dozen right after work, after soccer, or in the bath tub. And another 3-4 before bed. Maybe a few before soccer too.

    Bought batch 55 of this A'bunadh at the same time as another cask strength sherry monster (and neighbour distillery I believe), in the Glenfarclas 105. Just finished that one after struggling with it for months, and I really couldn't get to grips with it at all, just too oaky for me even when I practically doubled the volume of the drams with water.
    I hope the A'bunadh is better when I get around to it. I quite enjoyed the 10 and 12 yo basic expressions, they weren't bad at all.

    • @TheDrlethalassasin
      @TheDrlethalassasin 3 года назад

      The 16 is boring like the 12 and the 18.
      These are all a boring soft whisky.
      Abunadh is a whisky with flavour and kills the boring 18,16 and 12. The 18,16 were designed to be very smooth and soft for people who generally do not like Whisky much like macallan 15yr old, made for people who dislike whisky and are starting out.

    Good show guys. Love the mooch almost trying to double mooch at 8:32 and then again attempted at 9:10. By the way guys Batch 56 was one of those excellent batches. I have about 8 batches total, about 3 in the 40's and 4 in the 50's and batch 24 was my first. All were good. 56 is a really good one. I just got 61(I guess that makes 9 now) it is not as heavy in sherry but still good.

    Good day gentleman, please try a Bain's Cape Mountain Whisky from South Africa, I'm South African, it will make me proud. Apparently it's one of the world's best grain whiskies. You be the judge of that.
    P.S. It would be lovely if you guys were willing to sponsor me to come to Austin for the Level 1 in September, I realized today that whisky marketing in South Africa really needs to improve, because a bartender told me today when they didn't have Jim Beam: "Just have a Jack Daniels, they taste the same." :o

    A lot of people really like this whiskey but I've never been a fan. Just not into the sherry bombs. They taste like I stuck a chunk of a butt in my mouth and all I can taste is Sherry and wood. Especially if it's a speyside. The light and friendly nature of those whiskies seem to get overwhelmed by the sherry too much. They become way too fruity and most of the whiskey flavor gets buried. I do like sherry finished whiskies tho, just not the overly Sherried ones. Dalmore does it beautifully and is prob my fave sherry finished Scotch. I'm just more into the coastal, smokey, peaty ones. I find them to be more complex and enjoyable to me.

    Question for Daniel with input from Rex, as a bourbon and Tennessee Whiskey drinker wanting to explore Scotch, what would be the recommended bottle to start with? I guess I'm looking for what would be quintessentially Scotch but not a super drastic change from what I'm used to haha.

      Start Speyside and Sherry barrel finished. Or possibly blends.

      Ok, I'll have to go back and rewatch some of Speysides and see what I can get in my area. I picked up a bottle of Angel's Envy today, cant wait to try it tonight! Had never heard of it, and wouldn't have given it a second thought had it not been for y'all's video the other day.

      Eric Russell Did you ever find a Speyside to try? Did you like it? Glenmorangie (Highland whisky) has two sherry cask single malts that are tasty.

    So I weirdly started my entire whiskey experience with Lagavulin 16. It was powerful at first but by the end of the first glass I loved it. I recently was watching Nick Offerman's Tales of Whiskey and I decided to recently pick up a bottle of Oban 14 as a result. It is quite different from the Lagavulin in some ways yet similar in others. I wondered if you could review Oban 14 and tell me your thoughts.

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  7 лет назад

      It's on the list! I love Oban 14 for sure.

    A new mooch-piphany!
    Always enjoy the videos. Keep up the great work. I'm sure I'll eventually have a worthy question to ask.
    Until then, I'll just say that I've now seen a few "This whisk(e)y is like this music/song" remarks. I know that Daniel has a rich and storied history in music. Is a music comparison something you experience with all or many whiskys, or is it just an occasional thing that pops into you head every so often?

    • @WhiskeyVault
      @WhiskeyVault  7 лет назад +2

      The music thing happens to me all the time. Often it's the fastest way to describe whisky to someone with similar musical references.

    Daniel, a tip to help you with correctly pronouncing Aberlour. Think of the word "hour" when pronouncing "Aberlour". The way you pronounce it sounds like ,"aberlure" like a fishing lure, just say it the way it's spelled. Hope the spelling example helps!~Random Bastard.
