      They should be a part if everyone's kit to be honest Lonnie. I have seen a few very expensive versions for sale recently and I don't think I would bother with one if I was gifted it, the clipper is so good.

    I have a couple of these, great compass.
    It's one weakness is the clip on mount. It can come unclipped from your watchband if you are not careful. It's better carried on a lanyard inside your shirt.

    I like a field compass that can be adjusted for magnetic declination. For example, here in Alaska the magnetic declination is 18 degrees East at Tok, 9 degrees East at Nome, etc.

    i've been using the suunto clipper for 5 years. I have to replace it every 5 years because it develops a bubble. I wish it would not do that. I buy them on AMZN. Works fine until it gets a bubble. They must be making them in China now and you must have an old one made when quality was a priority. I've spent enough on these that I would have more than paid for one that didn't develop a bubble. I would gladly pay top price for one that would last....

    I always thought those watch strap compasses were a bit gimmicky, and that full size was the way to go. I might have to change my mind now. Thanks for sharing your honest thoughts.

    These are great, but I had one until on my watchband until it got ripped off on a canoe trip portage, fell in thick grass, never found it again. Now I keep one on the headband of my headlamp, much better.

    When I get this compass that close to my watch, it changes the heading by 6 degrees, so just keep that in mind.

    Hey Neil it’s a nice Little compass.how does it work with your „ big“ metal watch and the resulting declination of the compass.
    I wonder that you navigate that way, and still be mostly accurate.

      I have used it on a couple of watches. The Casio being the one that it sees the most use with, it's mostly plastic on the outer case. But it have never noticed a massive variation. That said, I don't solely rely on my compass, good observation and the use of hand rails, attack points, backstops, etc , also help keep me on track and heading in the right direction.

    Might seem a silly question, but if l am standing somewhere and l mean somewhere? Without a map, in what way do l use a clipper compass to help me ??

    • @greencraft4783
      @greencraft4783  4 года назад

      To give you general direction back to a known point. As it is on your wrist it can be used to monitor your orientation throughout the day

      If you value your life, take the time to take a good careful look at a map before you go, & commit useful features like roads etc & their direction to memory.

    Do a review on a new 2024 model so we can see the disappointment on your face. While you’re at it, review some other Suunto and Silva compasses. 🤣

    The compass not good. Did you used at night time??? Rubbish.

  • @salciano

    To be honest, this is one of the worst compasses I tried.
    It's not tightly sealed. Less than one week after light use, there was an air bubble inside.
    On the very first use, it keep jamming all the time. Every time the pointer/card jams, you could potentially get lost...
    The clip is hard to manipulate. Especially, if you're wearing gloves.
    Very frustrating to clip on. You need to prepare the compass long before you need it. Definitely not for field use. Otherwise, you'll lose an eternity trying to clip it on without tools.
    Damages stuff it clips onto, because of the badly designed hooks on the clip. Say goodbye to those thin clothes you just clipped it onto.
    Not to mention, it's flimsy and the clip will easily break...
    Even those cheaper Chinese compasses are much better, in my experience.
    PS: Didn't the watch interfere with the compass?

      My video was not sponsored by the company in any way. My experience over a lot of years use of this item has been nothing but positive.

      Sounds like you got a fake one. Too many people have had this compass for many years without any such issues.

    • @salciano
      @salciano 4 года назад

      That's weird. I got it from an official credited seller, in Germany: Conrad Electronic... Never again.
      Anyway, just sharing my experience. I'm glad you didn't run into any of this, but this was objectively among the worst products I've ever tried.
      I'm glad they refunded me. Customer service was OK, but kinda demanding, as they still demanded a full explanation and they performed a physical examination on each technical issue by themselves, before refunding me.
      Not to mention, some of these flaws seem to be by design...
      Also, it's kinda embarrassing going through this with a friend. It makes you look like you don't know how to use a compass, at all...
      Considering so many negative points I experienced and the severity of each issue, I will not be using stuff from this producer again.
