I have never forgotten this. I saw it only once in 1979!! 42 years ago.
I read this story in elementary school never forgot it until my niece daughter mentioned it while I was looking at silence of the lamb. Oh by the way I'm 56 yrs a good story 🙂
I saw it back when it first aired in 1979 as well!
Still one of the best short stories ever written.
THIS is one of my faves that I can clearly remember reading and re-reading (inappropriately young). Instead of developing nightmares, I searched for more stories such as these -and found Agatha Christie -WHO, by the way, seems to have based one of her short stories on THIS one (or vice versa!!!!) And until today I am OBSESSED with True as well as fictional crime. GOD BLESS BRITISH WRITERS!!!!
Check this out, Kui, for an intriguing and chilling true crime story: ruclips.net/video/OoAam9Z9ErQ/видео.html
😅 omg. Same! When I remembered this story & found the two short films on RUclips I was thinking, "geez. I probably read some really inappropriate stuff for my age bc I know I read this before high school." That's what happens when you're a nerdy outcast. Lol

The problem with this movie is that she leaves the wrapping on the lamb so they would have found the bloody wrapping. The whole point of using a lambs leg is because she could cook the blood into the lamb and destroy the evidence
Lovely... Ha
There was no blood on the floor. He bled internally or died instantly where you wouldn't bleed at all. She destroyed his brain in one blow.

why would there be blood on the wrapping ?

GCSE English Literature memories. 🤣🤣
This specific story, of course, the whole series both TV and original literary versions, is fantastic and a testment to just how underrated Dahl is as a writer of adult's books.👏👏
watching and reading this as a freshman in hs, it’s so eerie and mysterious. beautifully written
I was so lucky to come across a book by Roald Dahl by a sheer chance and only then did i begin the habit of reading. Thank God and thank you Mr.Dahl.
4:33 this sounded a bit sus for the people who weren’t watching the story in our class ( the people in the classes beside us listening to our blaring speakers) 👀
Faaacts
Bruh i had to turn the volume all the way down
Hahaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! 😂
😳
I have always loved Roald Dahl books and I was happy when we had to do an analysis on this particular short story for GCSE back in 2010. I ended up getting A* for both English lit and language. I put it all down to the fact that my English teacher back then also loved Roald Dahl's works as much as I did :3
hey i wanna ask you something?
I'm watching this for school. My teacher is so cool.
Hi its Eli

My favourite of all the episodes --- nicely done that woman -- wish I'd had that much courage when I needed it.
Susan George is gorgeous!!! This includes her manner.
I saw this series when it first aired. Never forgot the silhouette of the dancing woman, the rotating cards and the music.
15:34 you all came here for this
This my most favoured Roald Dahl story, but it's the first time I've Watched this video.
Can't believe someone married to Susan George would leave her!
when he turned around to look at the lamb oh my god
The actor, Mark Jones, was perfect. The whole vague suspicion on his lean, clever face right through, then that sudden heart-stopping moment when you think he's figured it out. That part wasn't in the original story, but it works brilliantly.
anyone else doing this book in school?
ah yes all of the comments of the other students joining me XD
Here bc of Twitter. Just to watch this when I was a kid. Loved it. I was 11 when this was first aired.
I’m here for Susan George.

This woman’s got some good acting when they were taking the body out of the house she acted like the perfect wife being devastated and begging the police not to take her husbands dead body away perfection she should win a Oscar
Well it was devastating to her, she had genuinely loved him.
The only reason why she's covering it up is because she didn't want to risk her being hung before the baby was born

School gang here ----------------------------------------------->
This episode I watched in eighties in our newly introduced night programme, and now again, binging almost all episodes. I remember this non-linear order of events, when we are presented with that body first was smart and the twist impressed me very much. It was a variation of "he ate murder weapon" from "Proof of Guilt", this time real perfect murder, though not premeditated. Perhaps an argument in favour of theory that only unpremeditated murders can be perfect, not vice versa. When I first watched the episode, I wad under impression of Blessed's other roles, in "I Claudius" and movie "Last Valley". And I remembered good writing, namely, Blessed-character's professionalism: when the wife (Susan) began her story with "I didn't lock the door", the detective (Blessed) instinctively sensed guiding in the words, and interrupted her "Now, now, let's begin from the beginning", but since he knew her and her husband he completely overheard anything weird in her statement. If he didn't knew the family if it weren't his colleague, perhaps he would have sensed the rat. But to literally eat the murder weapon - it's perfect crime, all right.
not here because of online school. here because i watched this in grade eight and remembered that i liked it so i’m here 6 years later haha
I’d remember reading as a class in my freshman year in high school. I didn’t know they had a short story to it it’s just as how I remembered it love this story they were eating the murder weapon

Hi guys 😂😂 def watching for online school.
Not from Online School -- don't even know what that is. I just remember watching this on the TV years ago. I imagine it was on Public Television. I remembered the story but could not for the life of me remember the name of the piece! SOOO glad I finally found it!
Online school is school taught over the internet. During the pandemic, a lot of students had to learn online because in-person school was cancelled. I remember watching this back when it originally aired in the UK - 14 Apri 1979 apparently!
i’m 15 and i loveeeee tales of the unexpected 😁

Many, many thanks for sharing such a classic collection. All the best!
Saw this Freshman year of HS back in 2016. Now, I am in college, LOL!
One of the rare episodes I actually saw the end coming... after he told her about his affair it made sense why she had mentioned the lamb and the new freezer...that was the lightbulb about midway for me
I remember when I was doing my GCSE's I thought halfway through reading the story that the woman was going to cook the husband and feed the policemen XD had a bit of an imagination back then.
So they ate the woman the guy had an affair with at the end? Hehehe I originally thought they d eaten the husband but that didn't make sense since they d taken the body away.
@@colourfulcrafts5492 No, they ate the murder weapon they were searching the house for! 😁And commented as they did so that the weapon was probably right under their noses....which it literally was. She killed him by hitting him with the leg of lamb.
