Tho Wang Yu's character is really admirable almost perfect you may say but despite that it did not capture my attention. The Emperor's character may have a lot of flaws but hey that is when I really felt his character it is very realistic to the point that you are also feeling every bit of his emotions whether when he is happy, sad, childish, coward, angry, disappointed and betrayed these character of him is much more relatable than any other character in this series his emotions responds to the way it should be. When it comes to his love for Nyang you can't even measure it, that seems like it comes to a point of obssession. In my personal opinion their love story here is amazing since the beginning it is a mixture of love and hate, but you will see that love between them is always prevail. Nyang really loves the Emperor and only blind people can't see that, she always have that soft heart (it may not love at first sight but it start there) for the emperor since the beginning, she always say that she is doing everything for the emperor, she's always there for him to protect him and vice versa. Maybe her feelings for Wang Yu is not that strong, it can be more on admiration and indebtedness for all that the King of Goryeo sacrificed for her. At the last parts of the episode I can see that she is very sorry for him that their promise will not be fulfilled, that she will no longer be part of his life not for the reason that she can't because of her status but because her feelings were not the same as before anymore. In the scene when wang yu died that's when I confirmed that she cared for him at the same time feel really sorry for him and blamed only herself because that time she thinks that the emperor did that out of jealousy, it never crosses her mind to blame or hate the Emperor. This statement of Nyang in saying goodbye to Wang Yu is the confirmation of a strong guilt and indebtedness, not a love confession "Forget me in the next life. But I will remember. In the next life and the next. I will repay you for all you did"(this scene also make me cry). She loves the emperor because if not she would have a big chance to take revenge to the emperor, but no instead she understand where his coming from and his reason to protect her and her secret. I lost count of how many times I watched this. All the Cast (main and supporting roles) here are really amazing, their acting was SUPERB! This drama will always be the best!

Agree. Her true love is the emperor. I didn't feel her real love for Wang Yoo. As you said, her feelings for him was like admiration and gratitude. She cried for him sometimes in the last parts because she was the person who broke their promise, but he still did many things for her and in the end he died because of her. So she felt guilty and sorry for him. In my oppinion Tahwan character is the heart of this drama and make it unforgettable. And also all the cast play their roles perfectly. Best drama of all time.

Ha Ji Won's acting never fail to make me cry. I don't think you can ever find a more beautiful actress that can handle the role of male gender as convincing as Ha Ji Won, be it period or modern drama. I mean She can do so many things convincingly that other actresses cannot and doing so artistically beautiful at the same time throughout the whole drama. Maybe Zanila Zhao from China can act like her but she is unable to masquerade as a man as good as Ha Ji Won because she's too feminine in appearance.
Yet her voice gives her away. In order to enjoy the drama we just have to suspend our disbelief. Ha Ji Won is able to carry the male role successfully compared to Zanila Chao probably bcs she's taller but still HJW is physically small to play a male role. All I could say is that HJW makes a very beautiful man. Wang Yu does not know she was a woman yet the male in him knows Lolz.
Just when Yang and Want Yu are about to get married, things didn't go their way and Wang Yu died. Just when Yang have finally realized how much she loves the Emperor, he died. Then there's Tal Tal who have always supported and admired Yang and then died as well. This drama broke my heart 💔😭😭😭😭

so many comments about nyang's choice between the king and emperor. for me, empress ki is simply that horse riding scene of her and tahwan.. It's been almost 10 years since my first watch, but I just keep coming back to that one of the most beautiful scenes in k-dramas!

This OST is just... beautiful... Soyou’s finest work wow she doesn’t disappoint! Can I iust say when I listened to this at first, I felt that the music and melody was so fitting with TaNyang. However, when I looked at the lyrics, it is actually narrating WangNyang’s tragic & poignant romance.... beautiful lyrics that encapsulates the fact that Wang Yoo & SeungNyang are star crossed lovers. Best period kdrama imo!!
I just finished this series. It’s so sad, Yang really loved the emperor right from time. You could tell because they both liked messing with eachother, it gave her so much joy to tease him and vice versa. Then he betrayed her and got her dad killed and she started hating him, that was what pushed her completely into the hands of wang Yoo. If she loved wang more than the emperor then why did she think of the emperor & cry when wang proposed, it also took her over a day to accept his proposal. at that point she had already told the emperor she could never forgive him and he should forget about her and never look for her. When ever she had flash backs of wang he was advising her ‘stay alive for me’, ‘don’t kill the emperor, all goryeo people would die’,’forget about me and go your own path’, when she had flash backs of the emperor it was of them laughing and playing together, she was genuinely happy in those flashbacks. Those fake 5 years of love letters between wang and yang is what tore him apart and drove him into alcoholism and made him the monster that he became towards the end. When Yang heard that he killed wang and what his reason was she didn’t feel angry towards him, instead so felt sad that he was so heartbroken, she forgave him and continued to be by his side. Plus the emperor is the only person she tells ‘I love you’, even after he dies she says it multiple times laying on his body. It’s honestly sad, she should have affirmed his love verbally right from the beginning. He always felt like her second choice, like all he had was her empty body and wang had her heart, but that wasn’t true. They honestly communicated with eachother so badly. Yang greatest fear was that the emperor would abandon her and the emperor greatest fear was she would abandon him (for Wang). The truth is they both loved eachother and neither of them would have abandoned the other but all the power struggle within the palace blinded them to that fact. It was a sad love story for all 3 of them, Ta hwan, yang and wang Yoo.

Muhtesem yuzyil turkey historical drama does it great without shying away. Truth is truth. Creating a new character just for the sake of love triangle between koryeo and yuan was not needed. The drama would have been fine without it.

I've been watching k dramas since 2012 but did not pay attention very well because I was too young to understand everything about love and etc. In 2016 I was introduced to my very first kdrama which is Empress Ki, I myself can tell that none of these new Historical kdramas have captured my attention and interest yet , Empress Ki for me is my lifetime favorite even if I watched it so many times , the Characters are Very Awesome all of them. Ha Jiwon may be old in age but she still looks young and her talent and versatility in acting is just too good I just loved her ever since❤

Not exactly, yes those characters like Tal Tal, Empress Ki, Ta Hwan existed. But the story in the drama was changed a lot from the real one in history for purposes of entertainment. For example, the real Empress Ki wasn't as kind, morally upright and loyal and brave as the Empress Ki in this series. She was actually a Very Very conniving and vile woman. You can Google up the real Empress Ki story. You will be amused. But Tal Tal was true, even in history; very brilliant and brave and fiercely loyal to his country ❤️

Lolz you're too sentimental in your analysis of Yang's feelings for the emperor. Compared to Wang Yu the emperor was in a better position to offer her what she wanted - revenge. Togon never had power but Empress Ki knew how to obtain it so choosing him was the only choice. Whether she truly loved Togon as far as the drama is concerned I am not sure but she was really moved that he took the poisoned arrow for her. In my opinion both Wang Yu and Togon truly loved her but initially she was in love with Wang Yu. The way she mourned for him after finding his dead body shows how deep her love for him had been. Seldom in period dramas do we see a woman so loved by both a king and an emperor.

Empress Ki is an awesome drama. A must watch! [SPOILER ALERT] =P Wangyu truly loves her, Taltal finally found love with her, Tahwan really needs her. I want each of them to have their own Seungnyang. haha. Yes Tahwan showed that he obsessed with her in 90% of the drama but at the 2 last episodes he finally proved that he deserves Nyang too. Its sad that Wangyu had to die because of that reason,I cried when Taltal died in a war and cried harder when Tahwan only get to hear that she loves him too just before his last breath.
U agree...their love has its own deliveration....it would be my most unforgetable kdrama that even time pass and i grew white i still remember those feelings while watching this drama...
You forgot to include General Tangqishi, who neglected to kill Sungnyang for the gain of his family and to satisfy his sister, Empress Danashri. He wants her to die but eventually he can't, he is also a victim of this badass and cunning lady. Hahaha

Even though i’m torn on whether i like emperors character, i think he still really loved her he just didn’t know how to show it . Since a young age he was lonely & so when he got something that he could call his own he was obsessive & didn’t want to let it go .

Tho Wang Yu's character is really admirable almost perfect you may say but despite that it did not capture my attention. The Emperor's character may have a lot of flaws but hey that is when I really felt his character it is very realistic to the point that you are also feeling every bit of his emotions whether when he is happy, sad, childish, coward, angry, disappointed and betrayed these character of him is much more relatable than any other character in this series his emotions responds to the way it should be. When it comes to his love for Nyang you can't even measure it, that seems like it comes to a point of obssession. In my personal opinion their love story here is amazing since the beginning it is a mixture of love and hate, but you will see that love between them is always prevail. Nyang really loves the Emperor and only blind people can't see that, she always have that soft heart (it may not love at first sight but it start there) for the emperor since the beginning, she always say that she is doing everything for the emperor, she's always there for him to protect him and vice versa. Maybe her feelings for Wang Yu is not that strong, it can be more on admiration and indebtedness for all that the King of Goryeo sacrificed for her. At the last parts of the episode I can see that she is very sorry for him that their promise will not be fulfilled, that she will no longer be part of his life not for the reason that she can't because of her status but because her feelings were not the same as before anymore. In the scene when wang yu died that's when I confirmed that she cared for him at the same time feel really sorry for him and blamed only herself because that time she thinks that the emperor did that out of jealousy, it never crosses her mind to blame or hate the Emperor. This statement of Nyang in saying goodbye to Wang Yu is the confirmation of a strong guilt and indebtedness, not a love confession "Forget me in the next life. But I will remember. In the next life and the next. I will repay you for all you did"(this scene also make me cry). She loves the emperor because if not she would have a big chance to take revenge to the emperor, but no instead she understand where his coming from and his reason to protect her and her secret.
I lost count of how many times I watched this. All the Cast (main and supporting roles) here are really amazing, their acting was SUPERB! This drama will always be the best!

Agree. Her true love is the emperor. I didn't feel her real love for Wang Yoo. As you said, her feelings for him was like admiration and gratitude. She cried for him sometimes in the last parts because she was the person who broke their promise, but he still did many things for her and in the end he died because of her. So she felt guilty and sorry for him. In my oppinion Tahwan character is the heart of this drama and make it unforgettable. And also all the cast play their roles perfectly. Best drama of all time.

Ha Ji Won's acting never fail to make me cry. I don't think you can ever find a more beautiful actress that can handle the role of male gender as convincing as Ha Ji Won, be it period or modern drama. I mean She can do so many things convincingly that other actresses cannot and doing so artistically beautiful at the same time throughout the whole drama. Maybe Zanila Zhao from China can act like her but she is unable to masquerade as a man as good as Ha Ji Won because she's too feminine in appearance.
Yet her voice gives her away. In order to enjoy the drama we just have to suspend our disbelief.
Ha Ji Won is able to carry the male role successfully compared to Zanila Chao probably bcs she's taller but still HJW is physically small to play a male role.
All I could say is that HJW makes a very beautiful man. Wang Yu does not know she was a woman yet the male in him knows Lolz.

so many comments about nyang's choice between the king and emperor. for me, empress ki is simply that horse riding scene of her and tahwan.. It's been almost 10 years since my first watch, but I just keep coming back to that one of the most beautiful scenes in k-dramas!
I've watched this drama twice. The first time was 2015 and my immature self preferred seungyang with the emperor dismissing all his sins. But now that I've rewatched it my heart ached so much for Wang yu he was sincere throughout the entire show

This OST is just... beautiful... Soyou’s finest work wow she doesn’t disappoint! Can I iust say when I listened to this at first, I felt that the music and melody was so fitting with TaNyang. However, when I looked at the lyrics, it is actually narrating WangNyang’s tragic & poignant romance.... beautiful lyrics that encapsulates the fact that Wang Yoo & SeungNyang are star crossed lovers. Best period kdrama imo!!
I just finished this series. It’s so sad, Yang really loved the emperor right from time. You could tell because they both liked messing with eachother, it gave her so much joy to tease him and vice versa. Then he betrayed her and got her dad killed and she started hating him, that was what pushed her completely into the hands of wang Yoo. If she loved wang more than the emperor then why did she think of the emperor & cry when wang proposed, it also took her over a day to accept his proposal. at that point she had already told the emperor she could never forgive him and he should forget about her and never look for her. When ever she had flash backs of wang he was advising her ‘stay alive for me’, ‘don’t kill the emperor, all goryeo people would die’,’forget about me and go your own path’, when she had flash backs of the emperor it was of them laughing and playing together, she was genuinely happy in those flashbacks. Those fake 5 years of love letters between wang and yang is what tore him apart and drove him into alcoholism and made him the monster that he became towards the end. When Yang heard that he killed wang and what his reason was she didn’t feel angry towards him, instead so felt sad that he was so heartbroken, she forgave him and continued to be by his side. Plus the emperor is the only person she tells ‘I love you’, even after he dies she says it multiple times laying on his body. It’s honestly sad, she should have affirmed his love verbally right from the beginning. He always felt like her second choice, like all he had was her empty body and wang had her heart, but that wasn’t true. They honestly communicated with eachother so badly. Yang greatest fear was that the emperor would abandon her and the emperor greatest fear was she would abandon him (for Wang). The truth is they both loved eachother and neither of them would have abandoned the other but all the power struggle within the palace blinded them to that fact. It was a sad love story for all 3 of them, Ta hwan, yang and wang Yoo.

@@raynatumbeva780 emperor was 5 years younger than empress gi. Koryeo actual king was rapist and they actually showed it in faith which had same timeline as empress ki drama. Muhtesem yuzyil turkey historical drama does it great without shying away. Truth is truth. Creating a new character just for the sake of love triangle between koryeo and yuan was not needed. The drama would have been fine without it.
She is seriously in my top 3 for OSTs singers. Taeyeon is first & Wendy is second. There is something about Soyu's voice that is so lovely...💕

I've been watching k dramas since 2012 but did not pay attention very well because I was too young to understand everything about love and etc. In 2016 I was introduced to my very first kdrama which is Empress Ki, I myself can tell that none of these new Historical kdramas have captured my attention and interest yet , Empress Ki for me is my lifetime favorite even if I watched it so many times , the Characters are Very Awesome all of them.
Ha Jiwon may be old in age but she still looks young and her talent and versatility in acting is just too good I just loved her ever since❤

Very fictionalized version tho since wang yu did not exist therefore huge chunk of the story was not real aswell.
Roselanda oh wang wu did not exist... but without wang wu the story will not be as interesting
@@Unknown-jk2wm I'm not sure about that since I was not a fan of wang yu scenes, he did kind of make the love triangle interesting but it didn't have to go as far as having a child with both of them since it only messed it up more and his storyline was always kept shorter

Not exactly, yes those characters like Tal Tal, Empress Ki, Ta Hwan existed. But the story in the drama was changed a lot from the real one in history for purposes of entertainment.
For example, the real Empress Ki wasn't as kind, morally upright and loyal and brave as the Empress Ki in this series. She was actually a Very Very conniving and vile woman.
You can Google up the real Empress Ki story. You will be amused.
But Tal Tal was true, even in history; very brilliant and brave and fiercely loyal to his country ❤️

Compared to Wang Yu the emperor was in a better position to offer her what she wanted - revenge. Togon never had power but Empress Ki knew how to obtain it so choosing him was the only choice.
Whether she truly loved Togon as far as the drama is concerned I am not sure but she was really moved that he took the poisoned arrow for her.
In my opinion both Wang Yu and Togon truly loved her but initially she was in love with Wang Yu.
The way she mourned for him after finding his dead body shows how deep her love for him had been.
Seldom in period dramas do we see a woman so loved by both a king and an emperor.

junji miato the most perfect cast in all Korean historical dramas that I've watched...and they all acted their roles magnificently ..the time lapses were the only loophole in this drama...they shld have at least put a caption with those time lapses

Yes Tahwan showed that he obsessed with her in 90% of the drama but at the 2 last episodes he finally proved that he deserves Nyang too. Its sad that Wangyu had to die because of that reason,I cried when Taltal died in a war and cried harder when Tahwan only get to hear that she loves him too just before his last breath.
U agree...their love has its own deliveration....it would be my most unforgetable kdrama that even time pass and i grew white i still remember those feelings while watching this drama...
You forgot to include General Tangqishi, who neglected to kill Sungnyang for the gain of his family and to satisfy his sister, Empress Danashri. He wants her to die but eventually he can't, he is also a victim of this badass and cunning lady. Hahaha
