    Hi Somjit, I was browsing for some leek recipes today when I came across yours. I will be making this later on today, I have all the ingredients, but I do not have light soy sauce I only have regular soy sauce. That shouldn't be a problem, should it? I will a lesser amount of soy sauce. It looks so yummy, I cannot wait to eat some.

    Yum thank u for the recipe! Are we sure those aren’t scallions? Because I just bought a leek today but it was huge and fat. 😂 the stalk was really thick as well. 🤷🏽‍♀️ it was my first time buying a “leek” so that’s why I’m searching for ideas.

    • @HomeCookingwithSomjit
      @HomeCookingwithSomjit  Год назад +1

      Hi Valerie. The scallion and leeks are similar in appearance, taste, and smell. Leek is from the garlic family and has a strong pungent taste and smell, normally we will cook the leek before consuming it. Whereby, the scallion or "spring onion" grows from onion, it is usually used for garnishing dishes and is ok to eat raw. About the size is quite normal nowadays, I find that the leeks imported from China are relatively big and fat. I guess they have very good soil though. For the scallion or spring onion, so far I have not seen one that is big as the size of a leek. I hope this helps. Thank you for the comment 😀😀

    Some people say throw out the green leaves on end. We can just cook and eat them, right?

    • @HomeCookingwithSomjit
      @HomeCookingwithSomjit  3 года назад

      Hi Anthony Leydens, thank you for the question 😄 Yes, the green leaves of the leek can be eaten - it depends on the age of the leaves as old leek leaves are inedible due to their hard texture.
      When the leeks leaves are too old to cook, they become droopy and rough. I normally touch the leaves and prune the old parts individually before cooking, if needed. Bonus tip: old leek leaves can be boiled with chicken carcass to get a sweet stock for soups.
      Usually, the leeks that look exactly like the ones in this video are still young and straight, whose leaves can be eaten after cooking 😄 Hope this helps!

      Hi Anti-life. Thank you for the comment. Yes, usually the green part is tough if it comes from an old leek. However, some green parts are still young and eatable. It's really sweet and delicious. Happy cooking 😀😀

    These leeks are tiny compared to the ones I just bought.

      Hi Ωmega Ruhe, thank you for sharing 😀 I suppose so 😀 Once they are cut to bite-sized pieces, the cooking method would be similar. Hope it helps 😀

      @@HomeCookingwithSomjit I'm definitely trying this. I've never cooked leeks, well giant leeks, before and this looks good.

      Hi nikolas lakis, thank you for the feedback 😀 The sauces used are common seasonings in Chinese cuisine and they accentuate the sweetness of the leeks. Light soy sauce adds saltiness, while oyster sauce gives the dish some umami taste. Sesame oil adds a little fragrance to whet the appetite. All together, it's very delicious with rice. 😀
      If you prefer, you can substitute the sauce with some salt, but the taste will be quite different. Hope it helps 😀

    Garlic and oyster sauce ruined it since leeks are part of onion family no need for garlic or oyster sauce 🤦‍♀️

      Hi Chan Phoenix, thank you for the feedback 😀 Indeed, it is really up to the individual's preference. As for me and my family, we enjoyed this recipe with the fried garlic and oyster sauce. If preferred, they can be omitted as well 😀 Hope it helps 😀
