As much as I love Austin's voice, I don't think I could ever compare him to David Phelps. Don't get me wrong, I think Austin's got a one in a hundred thousand voice, but David's is one in a million. It's not a matter of experience or practice either. David just has a voice that's just huge on the kind of scale you find in opera.

The pianist is the now deceased Anthony Burger. Like David, he was just a step above his peers. You should google his playing, "Hallelujah Chorus"/ You will never forget it.
That pianist was the late great Anthony Burger. He died of a heart attach at 44 after playing a big number. From what I understand, he was on a cruise ship, played The Hallelujah Chorus or Jerusalem, stood up, bowed and God took him home. When he was quite a bit younger as a pianist for the Kingsman Quartet he and my wife dated briefly.
Voiceplay brings it again. Their spin on every song they perform is always amazing. Harmonies are the bomb. The viewing the three songs was such an excellent idea. Three really beautiful presentations each in their way. Way to go.
Credit Anthony Burger's piano accompaniment for the perfect enhancements to David's vocal choices. Sadly, Anthony passed away from a heart attack several years ago, at a relatively young age. A great loss! Incidentally, David's "backup choir" at the end are all prodigious Gospel music artists in their own rights. It was interesting to hear David and Voctave back to back to contrast how a soloist attacks a song vs how an ensemble does. Also to compare the piano backing of David with the harmonic backing for Tiffany. All are sublime, just different. I do think Tiffany sometimes doesn't get the props she deserves because Kate has that impossible high range, but Tiffany is awesome too! I bow to no one in my love of Voiceplay but I have to say their version was a little.. subdued, maybe?.. compared to the other two. And more in a pop/jazz vernacular, which i appreciate from a technical standpoint but which I don't personally like as a choice for this song. But it's still ear candy!
I think Anthony was just 44 years old. He was in the middle of a performance on a Gaither cruise. Literally died with his fingers on the keys. Amazing, God-given talent.

As for David, I don't blame you one little bit for the silent pauses as your brain instantly reacts to those "What WAS that?????" (swivel head moments as we "phans" used to call them) when people'd practically screw themselves down into the ground upon hearing one of the notes plucked from the stratosphere! And don't worry about finding the right words to describe that voice--we also ran out of superlatives trying to describe his voice decades ago. LOL You're spot on when noticing that his usual style is building...building...building until he seems to hit a top note and people say, "Wow!!" And then--THEN--he slides or jumps an entire octave and that's when they go, "WHOA!!!!!" I played trumpet throughout college and adore the shininess, the brilliance of brass, and David's voice in the upper registers has that same quality. David Phelps!!!!!! I’ve listened to him sing after I’ve watched Dimash and still he proves that he is the best!!!! Dears 😅 yeah Dimash is phenomenal, yes he is, but in the vocal range of David Phelps, David sounds a lot better than Dimash....... Dimash is way above in singing and is way before his generation, alien from outer space..........but David, he is one in a million. It’s wonderful that we react similarly Qofy....😂....... that’s my reaction when I first heard him and even to this day, I’m amazed. I love his voice so much!! The pianist is a phenom in his own right. Anthony Berger, who passed away right as he finished a piece on the piano, at the young age of 49. So sad but he passed in the midst of his passion so what a way to transition from this life to the next.

The pianist name is Anthony Burger... He has passed on but he is a master at his craft as well. You should check him out and listen to his story because it definitely is worth the know... Phelps is beyond phenomenal! He tells a story that you can visualize, he draws you in and you're mesmerized but also ministered to and blessed. His daughters can all sing too... Bill Gaither sure knows how to pick em... Phelps is classically trained as well... Dude is so humble and genuinely sweet!
That was an awesome reaction doing free versions. OMG.... that was my first time hearing David Phelps and he had me crying also. I love Voctave's version with Tiffany singing lead. He did an awesome job and that was my number one version. I hate to say this but David Phelps version just became number one.

The piano player is Anthony Berger. Anthony died a few years ago from a massive heart attack while on a tour boat show with the Gaithers. As for David, well you would literally have to be deaf to not hear the most awesome tenor ever.
After watching all 3 versions i have to say that David Phelps was my favorite followed by Voiceplay, then Voctave. Loved your reaction to these even the emotional one with David Phelps. Would LOVE to hear some of your singing as well 😊❤️

That pianist was the late great Anthony Burger. He died of a heart attach at 44 after playing a big number. From what I understand, he was on a cruise ship, played The Hallelujah Chorus or Jerusalem, stood up, bowed and God took him home. When he was quite a bit younger as a pianist for the Kingsman Quartet he and my wife dated briefly.

Voiceplay brings it again. Their spin on every song they perform is always amazing. Harmonies are the bomb. The viewing the three songs was such an excellent idea. Three really beautiful presentations each in their way. Way to go.
Credit Anthony Burger's piano accompaniment for the perfect enhancements to David's vocal choices. Sadly, Anthony passed away from a heart attack several years ago, at a relatively young age. A great loss! Incidentally, David's "backup choir" at the end are all prodigious Gospel music artists in their own rights.
It was interesting to hear David and Voctave back to back to contrast how a soloist attacks a song vs how an ensemble does. Also to compare the piano backing of David with the harmonic backing for Tiffany. All are sublime, just different. I do think Tiffany sometimes doesn't get the props she deserves because Kate has that impossible high range, but Tiffany is awesome too!
I bow to no one in my love of Voiceplay but I have to say their version was a little.. subdued, maybe?.. compared to the other two. And more in a pop/jazz vernacular, which i appreciate from a technical standpoint but which I don't personally like as a choice for this song. But it's still ear candy!
I think Anthony was just 44 years old. He was in the middle of a performance on a Gaither cruise. Literally died with his fingers on the keys. Amazing, God-given talent.

As for David, I don't blame you one little bit for the silent pauses as your brain instantly reacts to those "What WAS that?????" (swivel head moments as we "phans" used to call them) when people'd practically screw themselves down into the ground upon hearing one of the notes plucked from the stratosphere! And don't worry about finding the right words to describe that voice--we also ran out of superlatives trying to describe his voice decades ago. LOL You're spot on when noticing that his usual style is building...building...building until he seems to hit a top note and people say, "Wow!!" And then--THEN--he slides or jumps an entire octave and that's when they go, "WHOA!!!!!" I played trumpet throughout college and adore the shininess, the brilliance of brass, and David's voice in the upper registers has that same quality. The pianist is a phenom in his own right. Anthony Berger, who passed away right as he finished a piece on the piano, at the young age of 49. So sad but he passed in the midst of his passion so what a way to transition from this life to the next.
@@uploadingjoy9120 actually, I've heard and seen it was 49 and actually, it isn't such a big deal as to whether his age is what I said it was or what you say it was. Just that it was sad that such a talented person died at such a young age.

The pianist name is Anthony Burger... He has passed on but he is a master at his craft as well. You should check him out and listen to his story because it definitely is worth the know... Phelps is beyond phenomenal! He tells a story that you can visualize, he draws you in and you're mesmerized but also ministered to and blessed. His daughters can all sing too... Bill Gaither sure knows how to pick em... Phelps is classically trained as well... Dude is so humble and genuinely sweet!
