  • In episode #14 of The Lab we take a peek into the basics of dynamics processors with an examination of the four main food groups of compressors, VCA, FET, Opto and Variable MU and their possible applications. We then dive into a discussion of critical settings such as ratio, threshold, attack and release and a section focused on when and where to use "Make Up Gain” Also covered are signal chain considerations in terms where to apply the unit in a signal chain and solid discussion on using limiting in conjunction with compression. The session ends with a review of parallel compression for drums and some methods for achieving parallel signal flows in digital consoles.

Thank you. I’ve watched many vids and get a fair enough amount of info, but still feel unsure about all those compressor settings. Your in-depth direct language is so helpful.
I haven’t noticed HULU limiting, but I still notice some RUclips vids are louder than others. I thought they fixed that issue
    Go Robert!!

Comparing hardware to plug ins- yes please!!
Is there still HARMONIC GOODNESS happening if you run a signal through a plugin as opposed to the physical hardware? (Knobs turned down)
