      I hope you realize that every game, regardless of how good it is, can be boiled down to something that pathetic.

      Super Mario World: Jump on shit and run forward. Win.
      Assassin's Creed II: Climb building, talk to historical figure/Assassin, kill templar.
      Arkham City: Villain X is doing Y. Go to location Z and beat them up.
      Skyrim: Hack and slash enemies and press enter every now and again.
      Rome: Total War: Send bully soldiers led by oppressive cunts to beat the shit out of whiny rebels and whiny civilians. Repeat.
      Get the idea?

      You miss the point. He doesn't expressly not like drab dusty environments he dislikes all middle eastern cities being portrayed similarly as well as the lack of set variety in Modern FPS's. And he doesn't not like vibrant settings, he just doesn't like the way that halo has such bright settings but is trying to tell a story that is fairly dark.

      ***** In the end, it has nothing to do with how a game looks, but how it PLAYS. Sure, Halo 4 was a beautiful game. That doesn't automatically mean it's 'fun'. It doesn't matter how bright and colorful a game is if it doesn't have that most important aspect.

  • @TheLastPredAlien
    @TheLastPredAlien 8 лет назад +16

    Personally, I loved Halo 4. It's Halo 5 that made me question the continuation of the franchise. Not because it's *another* sequel, but because the writers clearly got lazy and copied Avengers: Age of Ultron. Nothing but disposable android minions and an egotistical AI cheating death, while pretending it isn't making retcons every 10 minutes.
    Every Halo game has had a healthy relationship between the external media (novels, comics, live action episodes, etc.) and the upcoming sequel. Halo 2, 3, Reach, and ESPECIALLY 4, all connected the dots with the rest of the universe. Whereas despite breaking the record for "most tie-ins", Halo 5 barely mentions the lore leading up to it. 3 YEARS of prequel story arcs and all they used is "Locke works for ONI" and "Promethean Soldiers teleport too much".

    • @dragonknightleader1
      @dragonknightleader1 9 лет назад

      I don't like the Promethians from a lore perspective. Supposedly, they were supposed to lose to the Flood. How does a special ops army with drone dogs, repair drones, and teleportation lose to zombies? The trilogy made sense because we could see the Flood knock the floaty robots out of the air or instakill unshielded units, but now that there's no Flood anymore, there's no way to conceive of a way for them to lose.

    • @adamj4759
      @adamj4759 9 лет назад

      dragonknightleader1 The whole flood thing always baffled me... If one man can go for hours without being swarmed, how can an entire army fail (of military or covenant).

    I jumped into Halo 4 expecting the ability to understand exactly what the fuck is going on from just playing the last three previous games (Reach and ODST don't deserve mentioning). Unfortunately, that wasn't the case, as the Halo novels cover topics integral of the story that simply aren't found in the games. Master Chief lands on an artificial planet and releases a being built by ancient space-humans that wants to destroy humans but is aligned with aliens that were my friends in Halo 3? Why? It's really tragic that the Halo story had to be developed in this manner, because the universe is interesting enough for me to want to understand it, but not interesting enough for me to go and read every bit of literature in order to understand it. And to that extent, Halo 4 just another game where I shoot space aliens with futuristic guns.
    Let's not forget the lackluster multiplayer which exiled fun and was primarily about seeing who could pop each other in the face with a DMR the quickest.

    • @coreysimmonds5683
      @coreysimmonds5683 10 лет назад +10

      Halo Nation; it is your friend.
      Honestly though, it's not that hard to understand. Thel'Vadam aka "the arbiter" didn't command all the forces of the religious fundamentalist covenant, just one side of a civil war, and a minority side at that for quite a long time.
      With the prophets gone and the humans/separatists victorious, that may have left the separatists the de facto Covenant, but that doesn't mean the genocidal crusading twats all just took their balls and went home, nor will they ever be "your friends". Chief was understandably confused about fighting what appeared to be the reformed and now-peaceful Covenant leftovers, but that's not who they were, and it shouldn't have taken more than 30 seconds to realize "oh yeah, these must just be the other dickheads who ran around glassing planets gleefully a few years ago". You don't need to read the novels to gather that.
      And of course, the Forerunners are just the Forerunners, just your everyday galaxy-spanning hyper-technological people (not humans). Most were okay, the Didact was, well, holding a bit of a grudge for humans decimating Forerunner worlds, weakening them when the Flood came (possibly contributing to their loss), and indirectly being the reason he was imprisoned. I'd be grumpy too if I were him. (for the record, he wasn't built by the Forerunners; he WAS a Forerunner, possibly the last alive)
      You can gather that much strictly from the games, but the wiki can certainly be of benefit as well, or just asking any Halo fan out there.

    • @jimmyfrye5035
      @jimmyfrye5035 10 лет назад +3

      Corey Simmonds See? That's how confused I am by the story. I played this game with two other friends, running on Heroic switching off every death, and neither of us could figure it out, other than that the Didact was bulletproof and we had to stop him from doing bad stuff. I got more understanding out of that hipster paradox film Shutter Island. I got more meaning out of listening to the lyrics on any Melvins song.

      Jimmy Frye
      :D
      Maybe Halo 4 should have included a little story pamphlet or something just to re-lay things out in brief. Games USED to do that. Hell, games used to come with manuals so thick so they practically *were* novels. They were actually cool to collect and keep around, too. Then game makers got cheap :(
      Still, if you ever have any questions about the lore, now or when Halo 5 comes out, visit the wiki or feel free ask. I'm always around, along with about a million other fans (some who know a hell of a lot more than I do).

      I'm done with Halo, I think. I played the SHIT out of Halo: Combat Evolved on PC. I haven't owned one game in the series or an Xbox 360 since the golden days of Halo 3 multiplayer. My friend's Xbox 360 1st-gen "Elite" is on its last legs and he doesn't plan on replacing it. Not really impressed by the Xbone either.
      The only franchise I'm terribly interested in right now is Warhammer 40k *nerdgasm*

      Jimmy Frye I just don't think you payed enough attention to it. Everything came a little bit easier for me because I found the hidden consoles (or whatever they're called, I can't remember off the top of my head right now), and then watched the videos for them. But even without that, I still had a general understanding of what was going on.

    I guess I just want to share my two bits on the game.
    Not to say it's good, but 343 did have a hard time living up to Bungie's reputation for making a good series, so it's understandable that they "didn't make waves" as Yahtzee put it, but I honestly think they did a fair job on the matter. Of course I found it rushed and flashy, and not entirely good, but they didn't burn it by trying to jump the shark. So yeah, the series isn't dead, and considering the developer change, that's pretty significant.

    I'm a hardcore Halo fan but when 343 made Halo 4 I quickly realized that I wasn't a Halo fan but a Bungie fan. I played about 4 levels of halo 4 and then quickly found myself replaying the Halo 3: ODST campaign and playing the Lone Wolf level on Halo Reach. Halo 4 just didn't have the "Wow" facture that Halo 1-3 had. Bungie made Halo so fun that you could play threw the campaign a second time and still have fun with it. My favorite Halo was Halo 3 and that is because of the people I played with and also the A.I.

    I actually thought Halo 4 was the first Halo that was actually "combat evolved" since the first one. I found myself bored by Halo 3 because I knew how to beat every single enemy I faced. With the new enemies in Halo 4, I had to learn how to beat them. It provided a new challenge, especially when some of those new enemies can regenerate.

    1:34 Playing Halo 4 at the moment. Yahtzee is so correct... I don't know why or what I'm doing. It's just "go from one set piece to the next."
    At the moment I'm on top of a giant truck with cannons on it. I think we're destroying the "gravity well"? Which is a device holding our ships on the planet? But I don't even know what it's called. Infinity? Requiem? They keep throwing these names around and expect me to remember them like they're iconic or something. Also I have NO clue if the gravity well is the size of the planet or if it's a device ON the planet.
    In the opening of the game there's multiple capital ships being sucked into a big, bright, white light. We never see it again, we have no context for where it is or how big it is, just that it's bigger than 50 capital ships lined up? I think?
    It's so confusing...

      Halo's difficulty adds nothing to the game, you get essentially the same experience on medium as you do hard. Dark souls, however, would lose so much if it was easier. It's a stylistic thing more than it is an actual difficulty one. After all, you don't play Halo to be challenged.

      Because dark souls is fair, Halo 4 has far too many enemies that can and will repeatedly one-shot you one any difficulty above easy. Out of a lot of modern day FPS, Halo is the only one that has at least tried to change in every aspect. Not all changes are great, we know, but there are things that Halo 4 got right. The story, characters and overall universe is bigger and better than it was before, and the gameplay seems to be changing and evolving to not only attract more casual gamers, but also still try to appease to the ''competitive shooter'' crowd. Seriously, how many sci-fi FPS games can you name that have had the same impact or even the same level of popularity as Halo, that wasn't fucking Half-Life? There aren't that many shooters on consoles that manage to be entertaining, have given the same amount of effort put into the solo and multiplayer experience or have g a good fucking story, like Halo. I'd take Halo over any other propaganda bullshit about killing foreigners for the 10th billionth time any day.

    Normally I hate the way Yahtzee rips on the Halo franchise. Mainly because he takes the piss out of it for certain gameplay features which he then turns around and praises in other games. Like in this video for example:
    "Oh, wahh, even on normal the difficult is too hard because (insert silly reason here)"
    Cut to:
    "Oh my this game is nice and hard and I just want to run my tongue all along it's hardness. This is how games used to be!"
    But, in this instance, I'm okay with it. Mainly because Halo 4 was a gigantic piece of crap (when compared to the other Halos). I imagine the feeling Halo 4 invoked in me is the same feeling that Duke Nukem fans had when playing DNF. It says it's "for the fans" yet constantly tries to pander to the modern demographic.

      Levi Newell
      Jesus, here we go. This is what every defender of Halo 4 doesn't fucking get. Halo 4 _does_ have a complete lack of change or innovation. All it did was copy+paste everything from Call of Duty. Perks, killcams, sprinting, custom loadouts, QTEs in the campaign (although hilarious there's only two as if the developers just put them in there so they could show them in the trailers), prestiging (in the form of "Specializations") and extremely fast respawning. That's not "innovation", that's trying to make your game appeal to the huddled masses.
      I'm not saying Halo 4 should have "been exactly like Halo 1, 2, and 3". What I'm saying is that it should've at least felt like those games. If you get past the artistic design and focus on the actual gameplay, very little of what made Halo _Halo_ remains.

    • @50Calabyte
      @50Calabyte 10 лет назад +6

      Levi Newell
      Here's my TL;DR: Halo 4 shouldn't have been a clone of Halo 3 _nor_ should it have been a clone of *every fucking shooter* on the market today.
      Now, I know you're probably incapable of maintaining your attention for more than 5 nanoseconds, but do try and push through _my_ wall of text. I gave you that courtesy:
      Perks: Yeah, sure, there are some other games that use perks. There's, uhm, Battlefield...I think. Maybe Crysis? So that's a whole two other games that _maybe_ have perks. Whoop dee doo.
      The fact is CoD is the best known for that and the trendsetter when it comes to perks. So, they're the series that garners my ire.
      Besides, Halo 4 is the only shooter I've seen with some perks that are *dead fucking ringers* for CoD's perks.
      Mobility = Marathon
      Dexterity = Sleight of Hand
      Explosives = Danger Close
      Stealth = Ninja
      That's just lazy ass game design.
      Oh, and of course you can choose not to use the perks. But good fucking luck being able to compete with people who _are_ using perks, which is *everyone*. Choosing not to use perks in Call of Battlehalo: Spartan Ops is like cutting off your arms and legs and trying to play baseball. Sure, you _can_ do it. But all that'll end up happening is you'll be rolling around on the ground in your own blood while the catcher is shoving his balls in your face.
      See, my main gripe about perks in Halo is it turns the combat into a rock-paper-perk system. Combat in Halo used to be about who's the better player and which weapon you've managed to find on the map and who managed to get the drop on the other one. Now the outcome of a fight often is determined heavily by what perks you happen to have. Like some sort of roulette wheel spawned by the colon of Satan and Activision...so basically just Satan.
      "Oh, he's out of ammo for his SAW. That shit takes forever to reload!" I'll say before bounding around the corner only to get a hot steamy load of lead sprayed onto my visor.
      "How did he reload it so fast?!" I'll scream before remembering "Oh right, he had Sleight-of-Dexterity! Silly me!" right before I start slamming a hammer into my ribcage to take the pain away.
      Killcams: Now you're being purposefully misleading. There are absolutely killcams in the game. Some of the gamemodes don't use them, but others do. The fact that they're even _in_ a Halo game is evidence of the Malignant Modern Military Shooter Syndrome rampant in this game.
      And what's even _more_ insulting is they *don't even fucking work properly!* If you're going to rip-off another series, at least _try_ to do it right.
      Custom Loadouts: Yes, some gametypes do happen to not use custom loadouts, but they are few and far between. Swat, Snipers and Flood are the only ones I can recall that remove custom loadouts. Every other one does.
      And my personal problem with custom loadouts in Halo is it makes the whole point of finding weapons on the map and using them almost entirely moot. Why risk running into the thick of the fighting to get that shotgun when I can just spawn with a 3 shot DMR and chill in the back of the map, popping heads like so many human skull shaped pinatas? Old school Halo wouldn't have let you do that shit. It was like: "Here, take your puny fucking SMG and go get kills. What's that? You want to spawn with some better weapons? What are you, some kind of candy ass? Go fucking find them you lazy twat!"
      QTEs: Of course you forgot about it. They really were just put in for the trailers.
      "What do kids like nowadays?"
      "QTEs?"
      "Oh fuck, do we have to?"
      "Fine, just put like two in it and we'll make sure to put them in the trailers."
      The fact that there were only two makes me feel like there were more but they had to cut them out because the playtesters were getting confused as to whether they were playing Halo 4 or Call of Duty: Space Marine Ops.
      Specializations: Yes, one of the reasons I hate them is because CoD has the same system. And don't take this as me hating on CoD because "Lel COD suks!". I think the first Modern Warfare was extremely fun in the same way something like Independence Day was. It's stupid, popcorn fun action, nothing more. The problem is that now *every fucking shooter and their grandmother* wants to do what CoD is doing. When it started out it was interesting and now it's just tired and worn out, like that crack whore sleeping off her high outside of your local Wal-Mart.
      Furthermore it unbalances the playing field. The point of old school Halo games was that everyone, in terms of equipment, were on an even playing field. Everyone spawned with the same gun and the same grenades. The outcome of the game was dependent upon teamwork, knowledge of the map (which Halo 4 pisses on with their giant, moron friendly weapon and grenade markers and circular map design), and each individuals skill level.
      And it's actually worse than CoD's Prestige mode. At least in CoD it was merely a cosmetic thing. Here it actually *effects gameplay*.
      Spawn Times: Yes, they are different from gamemode to gamemode. In Team Slayer for instance it's instant but in CTF it's three seconds. Oh my, what a huge difference. And my problem with it is it's yet another hand holdy, over bearing mother type of gameplay feature.
      "Awww, did you die? No problem little buddy, just press X and you're right back in!"
      Old school Halo didn't do that shit. You die in CTF and you fucking wait your 10 seconds and reflect on how much of a fucktard you were.
      Finally, I'm gonna have to just end the argument here since you seem intent on missing the point. The point isn't "ERMAHGERD IT SHULD BE EAXCTLE LIEK H3!"
      My point is that it should do it's own thing and not try to fit in with every other shooter on the market today.
      Keep the set loadouts from Reach but make them specific to each map, add more environment interaction in the maps, make it so you can't spawn with AAs and they can only be found on the map, add AI controlled Prometheans to stuff like Team Slayer to mix up the combat, shit like that.
      It's not hard to come up with some different ideas. It's just scary for big companies like Microsoft to take a chance with some unique ideas on their big paycheck that is Halo.
      Better to stay on the beaten path and know you're going to make it then to take a gamble on the road less traveled.

      1.) Perks are actually pretty abundant. I somewhat agree with you about them, and disagree with you at the same time. For example, in Halo 3, it was skill vs skill. In halo 4, it is a combination on skill and strategy, with an emphasis on strategy. It king of evens the playing field for those who aren't very skilled, yet also gives a higher skill level to those who can master using skill and strategy. I would prefer an emphasis on skill, so maybe let someone have one perk that doesn't do as much, just gives you a little edge. It's like sports.
      2.) For loadouts - The thing is, you can't just get any weapon you want in the loadouts. It is completely different from COD, where EVERY weapon on the field comes from your loadout. In Halo 4, everyone can still get the same weapons, so it really isn't a big deal. I actually like it more because it evens the playing field out. First person to get a battle-rifle starts camping on high ground and fucks everyone up in Halo 3, in Halo 4, it emphasis skill in this particular category. Again, I feel like there is room for change, like making a less powerful version of the battle rifle/dmr.
      3.) QTE- I'm just going to ignore this one. Kind of a stupid argument to have.
      4.) Spawn Times- Yea, I agree with you mostly.
      5.) I agree with most of your ideas. The way I see Halo, was that it was just their intro. I kind of separate it from the whole Halo series when I play it, so that I'm not always trying to compare it like you. If you just see it as a game, it's still pretty fun. It might not have been what you were expecting, but it is fun. Keep on giving criticism, because that is the only what the developers will know what they need to do with the next games.
      Sorry if some of the stuff I say may be hard to understand, I feel like I confused myself a little bit just writing this. Ask me if you want any clarification on anything.

    What I enjoy is scrolling through the comments. Many people on this video, for example, are calling Yahtzee a hypocrite or that he can't understand a simple plot.
    When it comes to the 'artificial environments' he meant that it doesn't feel natural; dirty brown everything in things like CoD or Battlefield is boring, yet Halo 4 has a feeling that tells me 'something isn't right, like that nice old man who sells free ice cream to children'.
    And as for the plot, I think Yahtzee is in a similar position to me; I understood what was happening, just why is it happening. Why does this villain want to kill humanity? Why is it that I'm playing this game when the story is designed for people who read the books?
    As Yahtzee has stated before, a game needs to stand on singleplayer, yet if the story is only comprehensible to a third of the target audience, then it's already failed.

    I only have a few Pet Pevs in Halo 4's multiplayer: 1. Custom Loadouts: The fun stops when EVERYONE is using DMR's and Battle Rifles. 2. The showing of all the weapons on map: It was most fun looking for weapons and memorizing where weapons were on the maps instead of holding your hand and showing where exactly where each weapon is. Why do I still play Halo 4? To make fun Custom Games with my friends only... That's where it's truly fun...

      Because everything, at least for the most part, needs careful balance. A game like this, you know in which every five seconds someone is trying to shove a rocket launcher up your ass and pull the trigger (apparently they ran out of Plasma Rifles three games back but found a cache of Fuel Rods they figured would be better used to kill one spartan rather than decimating the presently weakened UNSC), can't be expected to always look nice and shiny.
      There doesn't ever LOOK like there has been conflict, that's always been a bit of an issue for Halo, even levels such as Outskirts and Cortana all seem a little tidy and they're meant to either highlight the extent of the floodinfection or demonstrate the desturction of Earth. They haven't truly had anything dark or unkept since the Flood elvels of Halo: Combat Evolvedand of those only The Maw and Keyes felt genuinely destructive.
      It's war, not everything will remain intact, but at the same time, it's war, that means that not everywhere has gone to shit either. Even The Last of Us, Resident Evil and the Souls series that typically go for the darker environments still have those beautiful designs that remind you of exactly why you're trying to not get stabed in the kidney within the next five seconds.
      Consistant graphical themes are boring and unrealistic. You need something to contrast the drab and dreary destruction with in order for it not to be just another environment designed to invoke feelings of angst. And you also need something to contrast the pretty skyboxes and elvel designs with in order to fully appreciate them. I don't care that Requiem looks good, because everything looks just as good. Nothings went to shit and it all looks the same.There is no reason to stop and stare

      Was the use of 117 intentional? Also destructible environments are nice but there hardly necessary. PayDay, Mass Effect, Halo, Doom and Unreal are five awesome serieses of or relating to the shooter genre that have typically lacked true destructible environment (there was a mod for Unreal Tourney '07 though which made environments fully destructible)
      As a matter of fact destructible environments, at least from what I've seen usually go hand in hand with an over emphasis on multiplayer, little direction in story and far too much of a focus on the skybox. Unfair generalisation yes, but hey it had to be born from something (even ignorance on my part which is yet to be corrected by others)

If it tried to add some grit, it might look a little non-Halo. I love my pretty, untouched vistas and the pretty environment. Halo: Reach and Halo 3: ODST actually had a lot of grit and pristine stuff. Shit was destroyed, blood was everywhere, trash floated freely, people wrote stuff like "Help Me!" or "Remember Reach!", cars were ablaze, etc.

    I really think Yahtzee hates most really popular FPSs more than anything else, CoD, I can understand wailing on because its a video game travesty, But Halo at least tries to have a story and changing elements in gameplay like Half Life did, It starts as a horror-esque style on Dawn and goes into its full shooter elements on Requiem then it has a good potion of driving, CoD however, is just, shoot ,angst, repeat, I know he is a critic, but come on, beat down the other games that NEED it.

      He doesn't hate shooters. He's stated more than once that he actually really enjoys them; he just doesn't consider Medal of Honor and CoD and Battlefield to be shooters, instead referring to them as "spunkgargleweewee". He calls Halo a shooter because it's less linear than those three, but Yahtzee's style is to be critical. Far more so than other reviewers. His _modus operandi_ is to highlight the flaws in games because every other reviewer seems to gloss over the bad portions of games in favour of the better parts, and thus he balances the equation.

    Biggest problem I had with the game is summed up with "iron sights". Specifically the absolute lack of them outside a few guns and never being able to keep the guns you like because there is nowhere to replenish ammo, but rather just graphics another weapon in the ground.

      A lot of the plot involving the Didact is revealed in the forerunner saga books. It was very confusing for players not invested in the EU, especially since 343i never tried to get the players up to speed.
      BASIC SUMMERY: Humans are as advanced as the Forerunners 100,000 years ago and they don't like each other. Suddenly, humans start invading Forerunner space, killing them and glassing the planets. So the Didact as general of the Forerunners wages war on humans. After the forerunners defeat ancient humanity and devolve them to caveman stage, they discover the humans were attacking worlds the flood had invaded to stop their spread. Thus begins the Forerunner-Flood war. During the course of the war, the forerunners try many desperate things. First, they try to use composers to enable the forerunners to go from flesh to digital and back again, basically making them immortal. The experiments fail, so the Didact turns his Promethean soldiers (forerunners) and later ancient humans into Promethean knights. At some point during the war, the Didact gets brain raped by the flood, making him a little crazy.
      The reason why he joined forces with the covenant rather than the humans was A) he hates humans and wants them all dead and B) the covenant remnant seen in Halo 4 worships him as a god (like they do to everything forerunner) so if he succeeded in composing all humanity, he'd probably use his new army of billions of Promethean knights to slaughter all of the covenant. They'd probably twist it into some sort of honor by being killed by the Didact and his divine army or something.

      To be fair, I did play it quite some time after it came out (probably 2007)...so it did look dated by comparison. However, Half-Life 2 came out the same year as Halo (2004) and I thought HL2 looked much better and the maps, gameplay, etc. were superior. I guess I just didn't get Halo. • @GreedyCapybara7
      @GreedyCapybara7 10 лет назад +119

      macgroin It's an issue because it makes for lazy story telling. If the protagonist is completely devoid of personality and emotion they're going to react exactly the same way in every situation (i.e. run sort_this_shit_out.exe). A good story will almost always have engaging, complex characters. And since master chief is a true character and not actually the player the choice to give him no personality is a lazy way to prevent having him to react organically to a situation.
      That doesn't mean emotionless characters are always bad, but when they're also the protagonist then the story rests entirely on the world and supporting cast. A thing that the Halo series (and a lot of other games, movies, etc.) has yet to grasp. Does that make sense?

    • @macgroin
      @macgroin 10 лет назад +1

      It does indeed :) still I must like that kind of thing then because I like MC and his lack of emotions...even though the only emotions he shows are in the pitch of the voice. I like that more than a dialogue that almost tells you what he is feeling and I like it more when they make the characters show emotions on the face and use fewer dialog to almost spell things out for the player. Expressions can do more then a lot of words when they are done right. But ofc they can fail hard also. And I know this does not apply to Holo because a person that has a full armor on and a mask needs good writing ofc. I guess I just don't like having everything told to me. I can see what is going on in the game :) you do not need to tell me also. They should have maybe showed more what MC is thinking but also keep his cold attitude to others? I am sorry if this is rather all over the place but I am in a hurry :D

    • @GreedyCapybara7
      @GreedyCapybara7 10 лет назад +21

      macgroin Except he doesn't change the pitch of his voice and the dialogue isn't written to convey emotion. It's not about information dumps it's about having characters that aren't "insert player here" models.
      If they made up for the fact that he's faceless with engaging dialogue that would be great. In fact, that's a very interesting story writing technique and wold be very hard to do since they must convey everything through dialogue and not the characters (nonexistent) expressions. But they don't.
      A cold attitude is fine. However, Master Chief doesn't have a cold attitude, he has no attitude because he has no personality. He's a blank slate which the player is supposed to project themselves onto. It's lazy story writing.

    • @falloutnewvegasboy
      @falloutnewvegasboy 10 лет назад +1

      GreedyCapybara7 Actually, in the end of Halo 4 I felt chief and his lost, IDK if you beat it but he had emotion all right.

    Halo isn't just a "generic shooter franchise". It's the franchise that allowed other franchises such as CoD to become successful and pioneered the basic gameplay mechanics we see today.

    • @TheTankbus

    • @leamJG
      @leamJG 10 лет назад

      MrDustyMonk Except Halo did streamline multiplayer and online multiplayer. That's what the other guy was talking about, I believe. A lot of the people who played Halo: CE would invite friends, or visit a friend's house in order to play the multiplayer. Then Halo 2 came out and online shooters were born. Halo was also one of the first games to be played competitively for MLG tournaments, alongside Super Smash Bros.
      Also, Halo did pioneer a lot of game mechanics that Call of Duty has or had, such as regenerative health, limited number of weapons, dual-wielding (one of the first in console FPS and online), and melee combat.

      different artstyles for different people. ZP is just trying to continue the trend on hating the game series, and using nitpickes that contradict earlier statements he made in earlier videos just proves it. It's actually a little annoying, he doesn't suggest things that could improve the game, he nitpicks to make himself sound witty. If halo 4 changed the art style to be a fusion of the 2, he would complain about something else.

I know that people make mistakes, but the dickish way zero punctuation presents himself makes him look like he knows everything about the game. If he is going to have that attitude, he should at least make his complaints a little less nitpicky, because right now, it just sounds like he has some gripe with the series itself. On a side note, I think he would be a really great lets player. What do you guys think?

Every sequel after that has just wallowed in the original, improving the graphics and maybe adding a few more intuitive design choices but never really changing anything substantial.
