    Great job and great explanation, I see a lot of people over complicating these jigs when it really doesn't need to be so complicated.

    Best video I've seen so far on the build details. Most of the difficulty comes from trying to wrap your head around the relationship of the cams to the neck but after watching this, I think I got it. One question that was hard to tell and I apologize if you explained it and I missed it. Is that a one piece neck,with the fretboard already part of it, or are you shaping it without a fretboard? Im sure forgetting to account for the thickness of one would change the center, altering the final profile. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.

    Well done, Paul, and thank you for imparting your resulting engineering efforts! I may have missed in the video, but I didn't end up with the height of the "skis" in my notes (the elevation of the router base relative to the fixed height of the bearings on the ends). Would you mind sharing the measurement from the bottom of each end to the top of of your side-guides ("skis") please sir?

    Hi Paul,first of all my compliments. I have a question : how did you do to give to the jig a different height of cutting? I mean from the beginning of the neck to the pocket heel....ciao Nino

    • @EddieMetal68
      @EddieMetal68 3 года назад +1

      The discs and the bearings will limit how much the springs (rubber bands) will push the carrier against the router bit. Simple that way!

    Great build!! I want to attempt making one. How did you arrive at the diameter of the end discs, and their distances from the cutting edge to accomplish the appropriate taper?

    • @tanglewife

      I watched so many videos trying to work it out, in the end I drew a scale diagram of the jig, drew my ideal neck on there, then followed the neck to the end of the carriage. There's still a bit of trial and error, but you get the height and width at least.

    Hi - many thanks for sharing this design Paul. I have built this to the same specs but realise that I tend to have already fitted and radiused my fretboards before shipping the neck profile. I am trying to work out how to adapt the design to accommodate necks with the fretboard already fitted - any ideas anyone ? cheers !

    • @petecoates6410
      @petecoates6410 2 года назад

      I think I managed to work this out by using 1/4” risers/spacers between the carriage and the centre pins of the cams to simulate the depth of the fretboard. this way the centre of rotation of the carriage is still on the plane of the join between the neck and the fretboard, even with a fitted fretboard, as per the original design - I will try with some waste wood neck blanks and see how it goes

    • @Thebentfrog
      @Thebentfrog 5 месяцев назад

      You could sticky tape a 1/4 “unradiused” fretboard to a 3/4 “ blank. Radius the neck….then radius fretboard ect.

    Hey Paul thank you so much for this great video. I have a couple of questions:
    Disc size (100 and 75mm) refers to width or height? What is the other value of discs (one that is not 100 and 75mm)?
    What should be the distance between two disks ?? What thicknes of guitar blank do you use?

    • @paul113757
      @paul113757  4 года назад +1

      Hi the 75mm and 100mm refers to the diameter of the discs. Between the discs is 760mm and the blank is 25.4 (1")

    • @paul113757
      @paul113757  4 года назад +1

      When you mention the height of the disc i take it you were looking at the 75mm disc as it has flat sides at the bottom. You don't have to cut it like that you just cut it as a disc and fix it with the center in line with the top of the carriage, hope that helps.

    With few Mods you can add the feature to make profile discs from an existing guitar neck.

    Hello!! I'd like to know how did you calculate the right measure of the disks radius to get 42 millimeters in the begin and 55 millimeters the end of the neck?

    • @paul113757
      @paul113757  4 года назад +3

      I was only talking approx sizes of the nut and the 12th fret, the actual sizes are 42mm and 52mm. If you continue this taper inside the box the 42mm tapers DOWN to approx 35mm as it reaches the end of the box and the 52mm taper gets LARGER to approx 60mm and this would be the actual sizes of the discs required to produce the correct taper. I then added 40mm to each disc just to make them easier to work with. The difference between the discs is 25mm and that must stay the same. Hope that helps.
