There is a neck carving gig out now, diy, that is about 75% less complicated than this one. Not trying to take anything away from this one but the other one is a lot easier to build and works much simpler and easier to use. one of that kind is on scar my guitar.
Si possono avere le misure
what is the diameter of the both discs???(cams)
Boring. Very boring. Got sleepy
Excellent video Paul. I'm going to start making one tomorrow.
Great video, I've watched several neck jig guides. This is the best one, you've made it clear and simple. Thank you
That was great , i think you got all the info in , got to say I like the look of the neck profile you made , top notch work , i've made several guitar bodies but never a neck , so thanks for sharing that i'm gonna give it a go .
Great job and great explanation, I see a lot of people over complicating these jigs when it really doesn't need to be so complicated.
Hi - many thanks for sharing this design Paul. I have built this to the same specs but realise that I tend to have already fitted and radiused my fretboards before shipping the neck profile. I am trying to work out how to adapt the design to accommodate necks with the fretboard already fitted - any ideas anyone ? cheers !
I think I managed to work this out by using 1/4” risers/spacers between the carriage and the centre pins of the cams to simulate the depth of the fretboard. this way the centre of rotation of the carriage is still on the plane of the join between the neck and the fretboard, even with a fitted fretboard, as per the original design - I will try with some waste wood neck blanks and see how it goes
You could sticky tape a 1/4 “unradiused” fretboard to a 3/4 “ blank. Radius the neck….then radius fretboard ect.
Best video ever on RUclips!!! …I’m no longer scared of necks!!!
Thanks Paul-- How do i set router bit depth-small end or large end?
very good video i like it where are you based Paul will be nice to meet you i m beginer on guitar making but profesional carpenter
Hi, Paul i'm Roy from argentina! Great video! You could be pass the plan of your neck routing jig? It's amazing! Tranks!
Best video I've seen so far on the build details. Most of the difficulty comes from trying to wrap your head around the relationship of the cams to the neck but after watching this, I think I got it. One question that was hard to tell and I apologize if you explained it and I missed it. Is that a one piece neck, with the fretboard already part of it, or are you shaping it without a fretboard? Im sure forgetting to account for the thickness of one would change the center, altering the final profile. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
Well done, Paul, and thank you for imparting your resulting engineering efforts! I may have missed in the video, but I didn't end up with the height of the "skis" in my notes (the elevation of the router base relative to the fixed height of the bearings on the ends). Would you mind sharing the measurement from the bottom of each end to the top of of your side-guides ("skis") please sir?
Thanks for this, you answered my question about the size of the disc. Good job.
Nice prototype sir! With few Mods you can add the feature to make profile discs from an existing guitar neck. I made some sketches for a guy who posted a video using a similar machine. Let me know if you would like to receive them.
Yes sir, please! How might I acquire those sketches?
@@HudsonCustomGuitars just let me know an email address I can send it.

@@HudsonCustomGuitars I just sent the file to you. If you don't received it, let me know.
Could you send me the files please?
Paul, you are a star. Perfect! Thank you so much for this. I shall give it a go and will let you know the outcome. Cheers mate!
Hello; I have just discovered your video which I find very interesting and as I do not understand English, could you be kind enough to draw me the plans with the dimensions please?
Nicely done , everyone is always asking for the plans , you did not need it ! I like that . There is a calculator for the puck dimensions , and other trick to copy existing neck.
Where might I find this calculator, please?

@@MarksmanGuitar Thank you, kindly
I read through the comments and found the answers to my questions. Great simple design! Thanks Paul!
Excellent design! Thanks
Hi Paul, first of all my compliments. I have a question : how did you do to give to the jig a different height of cutting? I mean from the beginning of the neck to the pocket heel....ciao Nino
The discs and the bearings will limit how much the springs (rubber bands) will push the carrier against the router bit. Simple that way!
Any help on a neck through RichbBich would be appreciated. The length?
Great build!! I want to attempt making one. How did you arrive at the diameter of the end discs, and their distances from the cutting edge to accomplish the appropriate taper?
I watched so many videos trying to work it out, in the end I drew a scale diagram of the jig, drew my ideal neck on there, then followed the neck to the end of the carriage. There's still a bit of trial and error, but you get the height and width at least.
I like your tutor Sir, why you didnt upload a new video?
Could I do this setup with a neck thru? Just make the whole jig longer?
Thank you Paul this is a great jig I am on with building one now and this is a great help! Cheers
Hey Paul thank you so much for this great video. I have a couple of questions: Disc size (100 and 75mm) refers to width or height? What is the other value of discs (one that is not 100 and 75mm)? What should be the distance between two disks ?? What thicknes of guitar blank do you use?
Hi the 75mm and 100mm refers to the diameter of the discs. Between the discs is 760mm and the blank is 25.4 (1")
When you mention the height of the disc i take it you were looking at the 75mm disc as it has flat sides at the bottom. You don't have to cut it like that you just cut it as a disc and fix it with the center in line with the top of the carriage, hope that helps.
Hello!! I'd like to know how did you calculate the right measure of the disks radius to get 42 millimeters in the begin and 55 millimeters the end of the neck?
I was only talking approx sizes of the nut and the 12th fret, the actual sizes are 42mm and 52mm. If you continue this taper inside the box the 42mm tapers DOWN to approx 35mm as it reaches the end of the box and the 52mm taper gets LARGER to approx 60mm and this would be the actual sizes of the discs required to produce the correct taper. I then added 40mm to each disc just to make them easier to work with. The difference between the discs is 25mm and that must stay the same. Hope that helps.
@@paul113757 Very informative thanks again for your time and sharing your knowledge👍🏼
@@paul113757 oh thanks a lot ...that was really helpful to me in order to finally be able to design my own guitar neck carving jig in this quarantine time, I'll share you my achievements when it's finished
Hi Paul! what if the circles stay the same size 42 and 52?
Looks amazing the cat
Cheers mate
I don’t know how you do it for the money you old diddler
Thank you Paul. You are very generous to take the time to do this! great job! I am going to build one for sure.

Great videos! just watched the all 10 parts. Do you have plans for those neck/ fretboard radiusing jigs? Amazing idea!
Thanks for the great comment, i don't have any plans but i will do a video over the weekend and explain how i made it and give you all the sizes,,Paul.

Very interesting Paul have you made any other guitars?
I made my first Guitar in 1996 and i have made quite a lot since then, but this is my first Relic.
Hi Paul, looks like this going to be a pretty cool project. I keep thinking one day I should try and make a guitar, but the neck is an intimidating process. Looking forward to see the rest of this build.
Thanks Dan i've got a really good way to carve the neck
Still making the guitars All ways admired your patience and skill Look forward to the finished article Well done you old diddler
