I don’t consider drug use/addiction a shameful thing, as I believe addiction is a disease that doesn’t discriminate. In my addiction, I stayed at a rooming house where everyone who lived there used drugs. It happened to be a few blocks from the university campus. I saw a freshman from out of town naively rent a room there, and become addicted to crack by the middle of his first term. So sad! If I’d seen him when he moved in, I would have warned him, but I met him later, just a good kid. Failing his classes and wanted go home, but was ashamed. A dealer had the best room in the house (next to the bathroom and kitchen), and everyone was jealous. He also would threaten people who owed him money. I know parents who covered up their child’s overdose, by calling it a suicide. I was close to the deceased. I guess it depends where a family’s shame or grief lies. Either that or they interpreted his drug use as suicidal 💔. Brain, though, may have been murdered, IMO. Harassing and threatening calls are bad news. I could think of a different perspective of Bryan's story. They made it seem like Bryan was afraid of being exposed as homosexual, but what if his friend mistook his actions and thought Bryan wanted a sexual relationship? It makes more sense that the friend would have been embarrassed if Bryan refused his advances. Or perhaps Bryan was experimenting and decided it wasn't who he was, and turned the guy away? Another thing that bothers me is the father not going to pick him up when he was begging him to come get him. If my child did that, I would know something was wrong and go to their aid.
