වෙලාවට කලාවට - පෑ තැටියේ අභිරහස Mysterious Time Teller - ( clepsydra / water clock)

පෑ තැටිය අතීතයේදී කාලය ගණනය සදහා භාවිතා කරන ලද උපකරණයකි. ශතවර්ශ ගණනාවකට පෙර ඔරලෝසු නොතිබූ යුගයන්හි සිංහල පැයක් ගතවීමට යන කාලය මින් මැනිය හැකි විය. ඇපෙ සිංහල නැකැත් කලාවේදී දිනකට පැය 60 ක් ලෙස සැලකුනි. එනම් දල වශයෙන් දවල් කාලය පැය 30ක් සහ රාත්‍රිය කාලය පැය 30ක් ලෙසය. මෙලෙස බැලූ කල වර්තමාන පැයකට සිංහල පැය 2 1/2 ක් විය. එනම් විනාඩි 60 ක් සිංහල පැය 2 1/2 විය. ඒ අනුව සිංහල පැය එකක් යනු විනාඩි 24කි. මෙම පෑ තටිය ජලය මත තැබූ විට එහි පතුලේ වූ සිදුරෙන් ජලය ඇතුලට කාන්දු වීමෙන් විනඩි 24කින් ගිලී යයි. වසර 200කට වඩා පැරණි වුවත් මෙමෙ පෑ තැටිය කොපමණ නිවැරදි දැයි ඔබම දැක බලා ගන්න.
Sinking Bowl Clepsydra of Sri Lanka was an ancient instrument used to measure a time duration in ancient days. Clepsydra shown here is more than 200 years old. Ancient sinhalese considered to have 60 hours a day. (which we consider 24 hours now) So ancient two and half hours equal to one modern hour. So ancient one hour equals to modern 24 minutes. This particular clepsydra has the shape of a half coconut shell. It was made up of copper. This has to be kept on water. So then water leaks in to it through a tiny hole at the bottom of it and fills it. It sinks in 24 minutes. So ancient people knew one sinhalese hour had passed by.
