    Schecter Apocalypse sounds so much warmer, the Evil Twin would be a great guitar to tune down with.

      Hit the nail on the head man. I own the evil twin pt (tele style)… and it’s an absolute monster of a guitar. From the open pore finish on the backside… down to the body binding and everything in between… it’s bread and butter is downtuned chugging. Mine personally stays in drop C. Absolute weapon, and it being my first proper schecter…( I had a Damien 7 with the active schecter pickups and it just didn’t hold my interest)… I am hooked for sure. First guitar with Fishmans as well… took some time to transition from EMG to them, but once I learned my playing needed some tightening up lol… I absolutely love them now. A little shrill at first but proper tweaking fixed that. Never personally tried an apocalypse model so my opinion is biased for sure… but from the evil twin side of the fence… it remains my ride or die every day. From shimmering cleans… to the most brutal of chugs… there’s not much this beast can’t handle

    I own two Schecters with the Apocalypse pickup. One is actually the red reign prototype and the other is JLV prototype. The red reign has a swamp ash body which makes the tone a lot brighter while the JLV is mahogany and has a smoother low end. The secret with the Apocalypse pickup is to turn the gain up on your amp to where it's starting to break up. These pickups shine with lower gain settings and aggressive playing. Too much gain they will get kinda fizzy. I also personally prefer my red reign for live and studio reasons considering is has a snappy bright sound like that of a bolt on where it just cuts through. Great review!!

      @ Tyler I know this is an old post I just got the Apocalypse and must admit it's a beauty but maybe it's me and I have to work with it but it does sound a little fizzy/high gained to my ear, I want to try your suggestion and see if I can get a better smoother sounding tone

    I’m really glad I came across this video, because I just got an Apocalypse C-1 FR S and immediately noticed how chunky the tone is for rhythm. At first I thought it was my amp settings, but quickly realized that the pickups are just extremely well-rounded. You get this thick, full tone with lots of low-end (which somehow doesn’t distort or break), and then when playing lead it feels and sounds crisp and the highs don’t feel drowned out like with some other pickups I’ve used.
    Also, I 100% agree about the neck profile. I own a Hellraiser Hybrid C-1 with that “Ultra Thin” C neck and I quickly grew to dislike it. As soon as I felt the neck on the Apocalypse I knew I was gonna have a much better time playing it over the Hybrid.

    Great video brother. I found myself deciding between the V1 Apocalypse Red Reign and the SLS Evil Twin V1. Like the rest of the world I ran to RUclips hoping someone compared the 2 and low and behold, here I am. I know these aren’t Vs but my concern was the difference with the pickups. I’m still undecided. The Fishmans sound fantastic, but that RED REIGN paint is gorgeous. I’m leaning more towards the Apocalypse. I can always change the pickups for cheaper than it would cost to repaint the evil twin. Thanks for demoing these 2. Stay safe and stay healthy man.

    Interesting, I thought the Fishman’s would have won for me. As sick and defined as they were they were a bit thinner in comparison for me.
    However having those two guitars would be perfect from a mix point if you were quad tracking. The apocalypse would bring the mid and low end thump as where the evil twin would provide the defined top end and give it some teeth.
    Shame you gotta get the guitar back to Tim (though I’m sure he misses it), would have been cool to see a mix video where you mix live in real time some pre recorded quad tracked DI’s for a song. DI’s tracked using these two guitars. Great work as always Ray and once again Tim is the man 👍

    While some people may note the apoc sounds fuller, it's worth noting if you pull the bridge knob out you'll get a second voicing that will sound way wider. In the case if the bridge pup it won't get thinner/single coil like. It gets "wider" and thumps a little harder. The neck pup cleans up and puts out a thinner sound. But the evil twin bridge is full on gnarly with both voices

I have to admit that I love that red finish, and I would have bought mine in that colour if it were available. My one pet peeve with Schecter is their lack of range in finishes for most models. I just got my see thru metal gray Apocalypse with sustaniac and floyd today. My first Schector guitar, and I have a shit ton of guitars from old Charvels, ESP, EVH, Gibson, etc. I've briefly played a few Schector guitars in the past, but not like this Apocalypse. Shit. I love this guitar. The sustainiac is marvelous. I've done bag pipe sounds, voices, all kinds of tricks. Unbelievable guitar for the money, and I own some crazy expensive guitars.
    Now to your video. For chug rhythm the black twin has that modern metal down pat, but..I think if you had delved into the features and played some lead, the Apocalypse would have the advantage.

    Question for you bro....loved the comparison first off. I had a Schecter Keith Merrow model (original one)....would that be the same neck as the Apocalypse? Reason I'm asking is because I remember it being a bit "thick" in my hand, which would fatigue after an hour long set. Would the Evil Twin neck be better suited to my needs? (Bear in mind I have a PRS Tremonti with a wide/thin neck, and a Petrucci Majesty with a fairly thin neck as well). Thanks!

    The problem for me in this review is the Evil Twin has a non-tremolo bridge and the Apocalypse got a FR...so that probably explains why the Red Reign has a "rounder, warmer" tone unlike the ET because the Apocalypse's FR damps, soften a bit the tones on it...To really compare the two sets (Apocalypse vs Fishman) it should be better to test them with the same architecture (both with NT bridge or both with a FR ).

    The Fluence are just the best.
    Sound of pickups is subjective, but as soon as it comes to palm mutes and in the band or mix, it’s game over. It’s articulated, has definition and cuts through a mix almost like there isn’t anything beside the guitar at all.
    Sure for some the Fluence modern don’t have the balls, but think about it: You offer EVERY OTHER band member to add something with „balls“ for example the bass. Also it will make the mix sound better. So in the end there’s nothing missing. You can add the „balls“ or „richness“ by pedals or the EQ on your amp.
    This video compares two guitars and it’s a fantastic comparison.
    It be honest the apocalypse sound a bit better on the high strings on a clean tone, but whoever owns one of those guitars will play that maybe 0,3% of the time.
    Nice video Ray. I would like to send you my Hellraiser, but i changed the pups to Fishman Abasi and living in Germany the shipping x 2 would probably be half of the price of getting one on Craigslist. Ah well.

    • @marvinrockon
      @marvinrockon 5 лет назад

      Stay Metal Ray yeah man. I mean it’s nice to know, but in the end this is a metal channel and clean here and there are cool, but is there any guitar that doesn’t can do cleans well?
      On Amps it’s a total different thing, because having a great clean channel means being able to make every pedal sound good in front. But guitar...
      so yeah, you’re absolutely right in my opinion.
      Clean demos would make way more sense if the guitar got a piezo pickup built in, but beside that:
      Metal channel - metal reviews.
      Keep rocking my dude! :)

  • @wulf67
    @wulf67 2 года назад +1

    I think it would have been more useful to compare an Apocalypse with a hardtail bridge and two Apocalypse pickups to the Evil Twin.
    The routing for the Floyd Rose, and the Floyd, itself, affect the tone as does the lack of a neck pickup. That sustaniac is only adding energy to the strings, not picking up anything, making this one in the demo a bridge pick-up only guitar. I have one of the hardtail 2 pick-up Apocalypses and those pickups sound more like the Fishmans when the gain is turned down a little more than you might normally set it. There is also a sweet spot that you really have to dial in with the pick-up height adjustment. With these pickups, like the gain, less is more on height adjustment too. The problem with mine is that the bridge pickup screw slowly backs itself out until the pup mutes the high e string. That's an easy enough fix, but I haven't been able to stop playing it long enough to do it.

    Just ordered one of the Evil Twin hard tail guitars. I just LOVE the schecters. Is it just me or does the necks on the Evil twin (Ultra Thin C) feel like a good Ibanez neck? Also, just wodndering, if i wanted to replace the Fishmans in it, could i basically do with most other kinds of ACTIVE pickups? I know this is not the "help line" lol i just figured with all the guitar people, someone might have an answer that even a mouth breather like might be able to understand :)

    Ff pups are sweet, don't get me wrong but the res reign pups with the sustainiac are killer. Plus the red reign has a killswitch.. I'm glad I went with the red reign over the evil twin. Mainly because of the neck and kill switch

    I have the evil twin and it's by far the best guitar I've ever owned, even throwing it into my Digitech Drop pedal in drop d and switching the pedal to 3 steps down it retains a lot of its clarity. I absolutely love the action and the way it plays. We have my gear in our bar/finished basement and every time I'm down there with the the wife having a drink or playing darts I will constantly point to it and tell her that I love the guitar way more than I could ever love her, needless to say she hates that guitar lol.

  • @xcodychaosx

    Personally I think there's barely a sound difference and the fishmans take a battery however fine details are a little hard to hear and I suppose the sustainiac requires a battery too but those apocalypse pickups are some of the very best passive pickups

Also loved the tone, you said it was the EVH 5150 3 EL34 50w head. What else was in there? Pedals? Cab?

    Hello Ray , needing your advice . I found a Schecter evil twin c-1 sls on e bay for $935 being sold as a second or B stock . Contacted seller and they are regular buyers from Schecter . They are saying there is nothing wrong with the guitar and only has some minor scratches . In your experience does this sound legit and is this a good price to pay ? Thanks in advance for your help .
