That is absolutely crazy. I've tried doing miniatures before with no luck. Honest to god I thought it was a scene out of Blade Runner. Not even kidding.
I was so VERY impressed by this work and the actual short film! You actually made creating one of the most difficult type of genre movies to make look easy as Ridley Scott said every step of the Blade Runner process was extremely difficult. You managed to create a brilliant short film that I've already told others about and probably the best independent film I've ever seen!
Ridley made Blade Runner in the old chemical process days. No CGI. No digital color grading. Had to wait for dailies to see how your previous days shots came out.
Wow. Excellent work. It's amazing what you can do with a few pieces of junk and some spray paint. It's inspiring. After seeing this, and some stuff on the Createscifi RUclips channel, I am inspired to go the miniature route for my projects.
Amazing stuff!!! I (accidently) found out about you guys in December 2014 while looking for images of the Sushi Tower and have been watching ever since. I saw Blade Runner at the Castro theater in 1982 and have been hooked ever since. Just wanted to say that you are doing it so right. Can't wait to see what's next!
This is incredible ! I’m a young filmmaker and this has inspired me to give it a shot. I’m currently building my city but I was wondering how did you make the billboards work ? Was it projection mapping, keying? Also what were the squares made of to create the billboards? This is some seriously fantastic work
Hey Joe! Glad this inspired you! Check out the 14th production diary on out YT page and you'll see a lot of stuff on miniatures and projections. The squares are MDF or sometimes plastic. nothing fancy... ;)
This is really impressive stuff guys. I will be checking out your Kickstarter, as an indie filmmaker myself, I've always been more drawn to CGI when on a bit of a budget, but this really is a work of art.
I LOVE THIS. Amazing work. creative guys. There is a time before the layers of filters, look more "down earth". Felt more real. The filters gave a CGI look. I felt that with prequels of star wars. They used a lot pratical things, but the abuse of layers made it feel CGI. But my congrats!!!!
theres a reason why blade runner 2049 doesnt look the same as the first, does our world look the exact same as it did 30 years ago? either way these guys did a fantastic job
I really like the before shot. after all the effects, the actual construction seems to have gotten lost. I would have liked to see more surface detail. I want to do something similar, but on actual film, so, without all the layering options.
It looks great, now I want to philosophize under the rain on a rooftop, in underwear. Are you going to post more of these? Any tutorials maybe? On lighting and VFX.
Haha, Thanks! We will make a lot of informative featurettes and Making-Of's that will be available on DVD/Bluray (check out our Kickstarter). Also, you can check our Production Diaries on this channel.
Awesome work, looks fantastic, but lets be honest this is Not made from Zero Budget. If you walked into an empy room with nothing, you would need to go collect the trash, purchase paint, lights, the 3d software you used, not to mention time and effort, it all comes at a cost. What I will say though is the Millions Movies spend on something you guys can do for so little less is astounding. Well done would love to see a feature length short with this.
Haha well yes, it's a manner of speaking of course. Sure, we spent money on paints, glue, etc.. But mostly it's just recycling. But I get what you mean, thanks ;)
I know you guys shot this in 4K, but was the film edited and rendered in 4K? I hope so, because it would be a waste to loose those high resolution textures on the miniatures with a 2K DI like so many movies these days do. If the film did indeed get a 4K DI, then I would LOVE to buy it in 4k UHD for my TV.
Yep, the final film is indeed in 4K. Unfortunately we will offer only HD Blu rays because it's too complicated for us to author 4k discs. BUT we will offer a 4K digital download so you could download it and still watch it on your TV. Hope that helps and thanks for your interest. (btw it will be available in a month or two ;)
@@sliceoflifefilm Awesome! Was the movie made with a 4K digital intermediate, or is it a 2K DI that was upscaled? You guys must have had powerful computers to edit and render in 4K. What graphics card/computer setup did you use?
