- The final eight laps of the 2017 IPRA Nationals was some of the best racing you'll ever see. Five cars all with a shot of the title;
Raymond Hislop - Ford Falcon BF
Peter Major - Subaru WRX
Christopher Brown - Toyota AE86 Sprinter
John Callegari - Commodore VN Grp A
Matt Cherry - Holden Monaro
That WRX was on a mission!
GM RULEZ
That was John Cleland going for 1st.
6:54 Subaru going back to its rally roots.
Trying everything to get that win!
@@BlendLineTV well going off track should be a time penalty and pushing the manaro wide twice and the older holden too hmm seems like a tap and go
@@harleywalls6356 not at all he had room, the Holden gave him the room and shouldnt have turned in. Completely fair move!
@@harleywalls6356 Shouldn't that be considered as cutting a corner? GT Sport would definitely have put a time penalty on that move
@@AchiragChiragg big 8 second penalty or something crazy 😂
Racing like this is so much more entertaining than everyone in the same car!
Different drivers, different cars, going hard. How good is it.
@Automobile Addict it still is! You just have to look outside the "top tiers"
Improved Production. Best category in Australian motorsports right now.
What motorsport?
Scooby driver is impressive asf not gonna lie, tad aggressive but he’s carving the field up. Good stuff.
@@HeavenCanWait7-333 He was clearly way faster.
no commentary just sound :) love it
Funny, i had the sound off to avoid the blabber.
This series is just bloody amazing
We're big fans!
That was amazing to watch. The WRX had the Monaro & the VP up against the ropes.
guy in the wrx is racing like he is in a forza lobby.
Right? Thinks he's Ricky Bobby out there....irresponsibly aggressive.
Trapper50cal well actually no. His job is to put pressure on the one in front because he knows he wont win on the straights. The wrx will be superior in cornering thats why he has to drive aggressive. If done correctly can win you the race however this guy obviously thought it was forza.
@@Terminator4000 so why the "well actually no" part when it's actually yes. there's a difference between what you just described and behaving like the track is yours only..
Plot well i wouldn’t go so far as to say irresponsibly aggressive, hence why i said ‘actually no’. Because he was actually doing ok and i would say trying his best. I believe experience got the better of him. Dont get me wrong he was driving aggressive and I put this down to a learning curve. If he doesn’t bother trying how is he going to learn. In this sport you are going to have contact. The difference between bad and good is reckless and calculated, but theres always room for learning.
ThirtyOne Fifty nah, the Subaru guy is a true racer. Can’t believe anyone would think his driving was poor. You clearly don’t know what you’re talking about if you do. His level of attack and pressure was immense and once in front his defending was sublime! High level of awareness both front and rear, whilst also driving on the limit. Great driver.
If we’re going to be critical, the only real bit that looked silly was at 4:50 when he had to take to the grass. Way too optimistic to pass at that point! He had a little contact at 5:52 but he was overtaking the car and clearly had the inside line won at the apex. The other car steered into him. Then at 6:55 he has to take to the grass again but this was due to misjudging the speed and line of a slower car, which could easily happen to anyone on the limit.
Oh hey its the same ae86 that faced Jordan Cox at bathurst improved production a couple years back.
Luke Lin And it is still a territory behind the Falcon. Nothing has changed. It is still inferior to the Ford.
@@jonathanbachman2339 in a straight line maybe, the Toyota is far better in the corners.
Ein watch Adalade. He tried to turn and brake with the Falcon. And.....proceeded to run off the track and into the wall. No........the 86 is just an inferior car to race than the Falcon. The Falcon will out brake, our turn and ....well you know the rest of the facts. Admit it, deny it or just be ignorant. The Falcon is better.
@@jonathanbachman2339 Well no. There is simply more dollars in the Falcon.
@@jonathanbachman2339 bruh, have you even seen initial d, or any film/tv show with an AE86 for that matter
That Impreza came straight outta compton! "If you don't get out of my way I'll make my way.."
and he was loosing aprt all over the race track,, really don knopw how did it end the race..
I love Aussie Racing! Central muscle cars, touring car masters, improved production. Great racing categories to watch. I got hooked a couple of years ago.
They all provide some excellent racing. We have to admit IPRA and Sports Sedans are right up there for us ;)
Central Muscle cars is New Zealand.
It’s far more exciting to watch than the big dollar categories
Nah Japs all the way bro 😎
i think bunta was in that impreza
Best race I’ve seen this year
Wrx:
Toyota:
Ford:
BMW:PRRRRRRRRRRRRRTTTTT
Holy crap that beamer was loud, but it sounded like a fart 🤣
The guys at Formula one should watch this. There's overtaking and everything!
F1 doesn't give 2 shits about the quality of racing.
@@PlayFloyd_IN Truee indeed
This class of racing is really entertaining.
I think the Scooby driver though he was racing in rallycross class.
I think he was sick of getting held up by slow-ass Holdens.
@@bengibson3955 he just misjudged the speed of the car ahead of him and had to take to the grass
@@bengibson3955 Slow is it? 3:00
@@MrRohanThomas More cylinders are better in the straights naturally, but when your opponent taking a corner at like 50-60kms/hr the only option is to exceed that speed. The car can take it.
Great Racing from IPRA.
Keep those Commodores under pressure 👍...relentless racing!
ahah no change unless pilot is just a bad pilot...otherwise forget it GM is Gm
can't beat that straight six e30 sound
That orange BMW E30 sounds INSANE!!
Thanks blendline for more awesome racing!, love ipra!
Other than the bump push around a corner early in, I really dig his aggressive inside braking to utilize his superior cornering~
i love how the little 160 hp e30 was not as far behind the lead pack as you would expect lol.
That’s an incredible footage, nice work buddy 👏🏻👏🏻
The old VN commy did dam well 💪
for a very old weavy car yhahah
That e30 is freaking loud
Rumor has it he's still doing laps, scorching grass, and caving the sides of cars in to this day.
Stig on the weekend not doing top gear...damn the subie is under powered on the long straight but taking the defence maneuver of holding the inside going in and late braking completely makes up for it.that shit was on rails.. damn good racing right there !!!
The WRX driver was amazing and aggressive. But I am more than impressed by how quick that Opel Omega, I mean VP Commodore, was going!
I see a Lot of Cars but i hear only BMW 😂
1:03 bye-bye hood scoop
-150 hp
Oh ok bonnet scoop I saw something fly off. Thanks for the info.
Instant weight reduction
Wrx you beauty
great racing one (wrx) and all!
Full time all fours craving it up dubrx yeh boi.
And you can hear that 6 cilinder BMW. Unique sound.
Dil Lee it sounds horrible
I prefer the 4 cylinders
No one:
Takumi vs Bunta rematch
Gotta love that BMW blowing your speakers out at the end of every clip
That AE86 Levin is a beast
The falcon in 1st was sick! Hate ford for killing off that car. Subaru nice pass in the grass on the back marker😂. Holden looked like he missed a shift and cooked his motor or drive line issue.
I would have thought it was steering issue from the nudge mid-corner, would have knocked something out of alignment. Still not a bad move from the WRX though.
Before they made the British Touring Car Championship a non-contact sport there would be all sorts of mischief, check out some of the old races from the nineties!
The 90s were a great era for the BTCC
Bloke in the pats tyres wrx takes the award for best predictive defensive driver of the year. Great drive!
It’s such a shame the WRX never had a proper touring car career.
Seems he would be more suited to destruction derby1
Probably because of the 4WD,
And 4WD isn’t allowed in touring car racing
@@DominikMaslyk typically they convert to align with regs. Group A GTR RWD, TCR WRX is FWD for example. There was a RWD WRX in Super GT in the 300 class for a while, but on a whole largely looked over.
The STI is clearly good at Cornering and the cars ahead is just holding the guy back so he's driving like mad man
WRX was amazing.😌😌
The car is amazing. The driver not so much. Its shame we never saw the final poll, because im sure he will have been severely penalised for that kind of of behavior.
Or at least i hope so.
@@xanderledger5331 Hey mate, I don't do racing myself but interested to know what this guy did that could be considered bad racing etiquette? He seemed to be defending corners quite a lot because he knew he loses so much time on the straights...Is there a limit to how much defending like that you can do? Genuine question:)
Lee Sandford : I’d have thought he’d have coped one or two 5 second penalties for exceeding track limits.
@@MrSando75 I am a race steward, although just for a small provincial club cup, so while I have some experience I am by no means an expert, he'd of been called on excessive blocking, every lap he dove to such an extreme angle, protecting his position caused everyone behind him to fall off the pace of the leader. Defending is fine until it's excessive, a dangerous maneuver, or disrupting the race for multiple racers behind him. His car couldn't keep pace on the straight, that's not everyone else's problem. In addition, every pass he made involved contact, mid corner as well, so while he expects people to respect his defensive moves, he drives through others. The corner cutting is iffy if he'd get a talk to, the first one would probably be at best a warning, he should have attempted the pass on the outside as opposed to cutting the track, but it did avoid collision so I can't see a penalty being given, the second one was disgusting, easily had the room and speed on the outside, but because it was a lapped car, the car being over taken should have conceded the racing line. That's how I would have called it for our races anyways
@@frankb3607 I disagree almost entirely.
Taking the compromised line into corners is a legitimate way of maximising his car's strengths. That he does it repeatedly without losing time to either the Commodore or the Monaro shows that it is not a blocking tactic at all - he's doing it because he's looking for a way past the slower car, not because he's trying to block anyone.
The view at ~4:50 looks like he had just met the threshold for making the pass, and the Holden turns in on him. Ducking back off the track to avoid contact should not be a strike against him - it shows that he had both car control and awareness.
The following lap when they do contact, he was in front and owned the track - simple as that. You can see where the cars contact - the WRX is ahead (and not out of control). I won't criticise Cherry on that one because he wasn't expecting the WRX to be there, but there's no way Major should be penalised for overtaking a car cleanly.
It is also incorrect to claim that all of his passes involved contact - he overtook the Commodore three times and the Monaro twice - there was contact once when another car turned in on him.
Rexxy carved them up .Well done mate.
Great race from 2017 and glad to see iprawa get the nationals over again.
Pity to see Matt have a problem late in the race and Pete on fire in what looks like Kevin Ledgers WRX. Hislop did again what he did in 2010, with a car that is very well suited to Barbagallo.
Crazy driver and a mad car.
Those STRAITLINE guys deseved no better.👍 Oh: Major achievement.😄
The subarus hood scoop flew off...that's why you go front mount homeboy!
Home is Neptune it's clearly running a front mount
Super fair gc8 guy
Those v8s can't take a corner to save their life
Booking it!
That Scooby driver was battling with nothing to lose in mind!
The E30 making all the noise and yet making zero progress, while the near silent Impreza makes the passes and finishes 2nd, should be a lesson to boy racers everywhere.
Great aggressive drive by the WRX. He didn’t leave anything on the track and besides you don’t win friends with salad. Very easy to race with hp down the straight if you got it. Why not use your cars strength and your ability to your advantage as the WRX did. Well done son, what would have happened if Brock listened to the knockers.👍🏼🏁😎
Great footage 👌would love to do that 😂
Beatifull race
Fair duel, brave drivers
The guy in the WRX is a savage
If you've never driven a GC8 STI on roids you'll never know it's that simple
And bro take it easy on the icon. Hard to get now.
gotta love Barbagello Raceway. Wonder whatever happened to the extentions that were talked about a few years ago
Feels misleading to put ae86 in the title since they were barely in the dogfight till the very end of the video
Chris Brown is a savage in the 86
Wrx brother is aggressive and a blast to watch
I'm most impressed with pace of the AE86 - it's gotta have some serious HP mods to keep up with that field - anyone know what's under its hood?
I was thinking exactly the same. Anybody?
Hears it was a 3sgte
Total Domination the GC8 everything once got clear of backmarkers just drove away big blue is very worried resistance is futile we all saw that cornering in right? Have me some fun
You can't tell me that AE86 has a 1.8L pushrod engine?
I feel like the people that watch this kinda stuff for fun need to stick together
Does the guy in the wrx have ever raced witg jordan cox?if he does please tell me.
I'd like to see that, too!
Absolutely hilarious!
GC lacked straight line speed but that late breaking and corner potential and them big balls let them eat up the competition
I love some great battles and agresive driving but that was just dangerous from the WRX.
That’s probably why he went on the grass and didn’t push them out or t-bone them, to make it less dangerous for the other driver
however I’ve seen other comments saying he shouldn’t have gone on the grass because that’s “cheating” so I think you guys are just complaining at this point
"Insane touring car race" is just a slight exaggeration! The million dollar Falcon was always out in front; only a couple of position changes that should have got penalties with 'push to pass' and offtrack excursions.
go back to your v8 supercars
@@RallyRanchMotorsport Isn't the WRX cutting across the grass a bit of an illegal move though? I'm not sure of the rules of this specific race but I'd have thought that kind of thing was off limits.
@@prolosertheatomistic8101 Maybe by the letter but if stewards dont use some discretion you end up with Formula One circa 2016 (very bad thing). If he had done that for position then for sure go for a place back or penalty but to give him a penalty for passing a pretty oblivious and very slow backmarker would be a waste of time. If a penalty offers no benefit for the race dont bother.
that Falcon is too OP for this class LOL
Derek Yam it’s basically a v8 supercar in a BA shell rather then a full supercar shell
And here comes matt brown
That levin… was the one who battled the civic somewhere else
Is the Monaro in the falcons boot
But that falcon......
It's on another league
1:41 that's insane!
how many sec penalty on that Subaru? it is legal to cut the lanes?
Loved that
So did we! Absolutely brilliant racing.
no one gunna talk about the falcon flogging them all the whole time?
The WRX driver needs to learn what track limits mean. I'm surprised he wasn't penalised.
What V8 supercars should be
Who is leading though?
Just goes to show how slow and heavy commodores are.
I wonder are they still 36 mm air restrictor in turbo charge cars?
lighter, comparable power, and all wheel drive. I'm actually giving props to the driver of the VP for even keeping up, not exactly a fair race, haha.
what a race. hands 🙏💪 muscle it
You know you are racing hard when your hood scoop rips off!
subi dude just pushing on fools and cutting the course with his awd! 😆👍🔥👍🔥
Did he get pinged for all 4 wheels of the track ?
Wait.. That WRX ! was the driver a distant cousin of late Richard Burns ? Could be...
Think the Commies' tyres were done.
地味にショートカットして抜くWRXカッコいい!
Skip 654mins
and watch Colin McRae WRX forever
The bloke in that rex would be so pissed off with all the big stupid lumbering V8s in his way, slowing him down round the corners and blocking his line
Someone please tell me how I can get a Monaro here in the US to race locally! Love those things.
They were exported to the USA as the Pontiac GTO.
Go buy one.... Its not rocket science... LOL
Er, buy a Pontiac GTO. Then buy some Holden badges from eBay.aus.
You did notice the Monaro broke down ?
My guess would be buy a rolling shell here in Aus have it shipped in a container as GM Parts. If it is just for the track that is.
