- David thought it would be a good idea to try the Rocket jump car again. Johanna is sceptical but very supportive.
What if you need to jump something with your car but don’t have a ramp? Let us introduce the next invention that will change the automotive industry! Soon everyone will have a rocket jump kit fitted to their car and easily jump over bridges that aren’t finished yet, police blockades and even up to the top floor of car parks.
The Rocket Jump RC car is a 1:10 scale HobbyKing Desert Fox RC car. The rocket used is the same as in the Rocket knife series. Providing 54kg (120lbs) of thrust for 0.4 seconds.
The car weighs about 3kg so you can imagine the results.
Everything goes exactly to plan right up until the actual experiment.
Enjoy!

You should have a pop out parachute to slow the decent and
keep it level.
Brandon Harmon or an airbag. Parachute might not have time to inflate.
i was thinking the same thing...parachute would be awesome
you guys are onto something
PurpleLion35 true. It was pretty damn high!
Rocket car needs a parachute!
definitely
TOTALLY
A parachute would be a very good idea. What do you think? Awesome
Yes, a parachute. And maybe angle the rocket so you have more forward thrust.
The car is in the air for nearly 5.2seconds, that means if we make the assumption that the acceleration from the rocket happens instantly, its falling for t = 2.6s.
With g = 9.81m/s^2 and h = 1/2 * g * t^2 that works out to about 33m or 108 feet.
Good work, I'm just a little bit jealous for your rocket-building skills.. Now we need a full-size-version, but with David I'm pretty sure it will end up like the second attempt in the original "ROCKETPLAAANE"-Video
You forgot air resistance, but the rest seems correct for what you say about the acceleration.
I guessed at 100 feet. 😛

Ya Boi's Dad lol
Add a parachute next time
Freddie Wong Approves of this video. I think maybe for the next test, angle the rocket forwards slightly so that it keeps moving forward and it takes off. Maybe also add a parachute...
thrust angle would probably make it spin out of control. but
worth trying imo.
It might work if you angle it like 0.5 or less degrees, also, you could make the rocket burn quicker so that it can't spin out of control as much.
Best videos on all of YT right here!
David and Johanna! Thanks for posting:)
Yeah, totally looks like you could go again... I only saw some minor scratches.
I think that has the world record, highest RC car jump.. period! Great video David! Keep them coming :)
So excited for another episode!!! Thanks
It needs a parachute!Matthew
What surprised me most was that the car seemed to lose all of its horizontal velocity. I expected to retain the horizontal vector and add vertical acceleration/deceleration. Fascinating and enjoyable. We're so glad youse guys can speak English!
RCExplorer!!!!! FPV and weather balloons and all that. Nice to see the old intro again. I guess I should have looked back a few years..
I was surprised how high that went. Would be awesome if you could add some drone footage on the next car rocket jump.
If only there was a channel that you know. Tested flying things. Like some form of...Flite Test.
You need to put a parachute on it..... It'll land soft n drive off...
i was thinking that 2 kenny johnson it would save the car or at least help
That was AWESOME!!!!! Love the on board camera.
I have missed my rocket content!!! So happy to see another video
I love it. A Deliberate amount of Fun!!
Stays out of frame for soooo long!! Hahahaha awesome
Old intro is back !!! LOVE IT !!! :D
‘Perfectly balanced’ like all things should be
it needs a parachute! ;D next time maybe? i also think that it didn't fly very far, because the movement of the wheels caused a backwards counterrotation in the air, as can easily be seen as soon as it lilfts off...
You are just wonderful thanks for the awesome vid.
I vote for "Bob goes down!!!" True sacrifice. The man gave it his all.
Awesome
Beautiful
Yes!!!! Awesome!
Awesome, glad to see you back on the Y'tube.
awesome!
Wow, great video!
oh my sides, when it went out of frame i lost it XD. great video and congrats on making the jump :)
I think wings, a lake and ground effect... Glad you're back and not blowed up! Maybe you could film some more of your machining too.
that was crazy! 👍😊👍
I vote for parachute too, great video as always David!
Nailed it.
what you mean? ive been watching david before i even knew what a quad was!
Sweet!!
That was strangely beautiful.
amazing
I noticed in the slow-mo that the car pitched backwards slightly during launch. I think this is because the torque caused by the wheels of the car caused it to pitch backwards, kind of like a wheelie. So if you let go of the throttle just before activating the rocket, the drag caused by the car would, in theory, cause it to pitch forward slightly, increasing the length of the jump.
Funniest video I've seen for a while, thanks David for making us LOL
I'd like to see this vehicle incorporated in the next tank battle sequence (with a parachute) if you do one - it would be great to see a collaboration or vs mode with Peter Sripol too.
Your outro is still the best this side of geekdom.
Wow! Looks like the earth did more damage than running into that tank. More rocket car David!!!
Not sure why, but I have a sudden urge to play rocket league ...
You always do a super job, of editing. Keep up the great videos.
Cg looked perfect, but it seemed like it rotated because of the power applied to the wheels, like how dirtbikes control their flips. Do you think it would climb more level if the throttle was removed before launch? Really cool David, I love what you're doing!!
Awesome!!!
For the next flight... err... jump, except for a parachute to keep the footage steady at descent and minimize crash damage, you could add a barometric sensor to measure the max height!!!!
And maybe some aerodynamic aid like fins or something to keep the ascent straight up!!!!
wow, Nice !
*DUDE LICKING A POLE PRODUCTION*
so much better than MGM
:v
Pitch the tube forward in the rig it will give it forward motion instead of straight vertical lift
i think it would have been ok if he let off the throttle as soon as it launched. when you jump a RC car, if you hold the throttle, it tends to backflip. if he had stopped the wheels, or even reversed, i think he could have got some distance on it. he was going forwards, until the car rotated, then it was straight up haha! but a slightly pitched rocket would give it some forward momentum while holding the throttle wide open haha!
This. Learn to aerial, bro. Get good.
love it
Lol, great idea and well done, but for next time the challenge is not a parachute (way too easy), unfoldable wings and fly that thing back home
If you pause it at 5:33 right after it makes contact, you can see the disintegrating car in the frame! Too funny!
A parachute would have made it fantabulous !!!
So where’s the rocket tiny whoop then ???
Love these so ingenious David keep it up 👍👍👍👍
You should put a parachute on so it can land safely and keep driving
Awesome! I love how straight up it went. For next tries - use a parachute to have less of a repair job?
Publishing videos with cool stunts will (for sure), improve your visibity, but I'd like to see from you building "magical" things like the EDF Afterburner. Sometimes, I watch again that FilteTest video and it looks like I'm watching it for the 1st time.
This guy built the Viggen with FlightTest!? Great jump plus love all yall’s flying inventions. 😎🛩🚁🛸❤️🏁🌎😂💫🎮🏎
Nice launch! Hmm...winged R/C car/plane next?
Such great fun !!! Keep up the good work, david ... and we´d like to meet the photographer girl, which obviously did the job not for the first time ...
The next thing you should do is add wings, horizontal stabilizer, vertical stabilizer and be able to fly the car once it gets to its apex. I think you would have to reinforce the wings, horizontal, and vertical stabilizer by having metal spars that are bolted to the cars frame so the wings and tail won't fold in on themselves.
Nice
I want to see "The day i l̶o̶s̶t̶ "put a rocket" on my easy star" :-)
If you mount the rocket a little further to the rear it should assist in moving the car forward
Bummer, snow's all gorn.... :(
Now I gotta wait another whole year to see a Rocket-Sled :'(
Although.....that means another year of OTHER cool rocket "experimental destruction testing"! :D :v
Hope your enjoying the warmer weather, could you please send a small blizzard our way???
Thanks again ;)
The lens flare at 3:16 looks like a rocket shaped cloud in the sky...... LOL
Hahahahaha awesome!!! I need info to build this rocket for my videos!! ❤️
Next time, you should add a drone recovery parachute to it that way you get a nice crisp landing on the other side of the obstacle LOL
Now you just need to engineer some retro rockets to control the descent on the re-entry. Lol. Or some pop out wings. Awesome vid!
next is rocket and parachute.
Way to go David!
Perhaps and this is a crazy suggestion....put a recovery system on it?? A small parachute could stabilize the orientation on the decent. :) Impressively stable up though!
Looks like when traveling upwards the rear spoiler creates a torque which rotates the car backwards (4:33). This rotation seems to happen while the rocket is still firing (4:36), creating a backward component to the thrust which in turn kills most of the horizontal speed. This might be why it whent straight up even though the rocket placement was correct.
Gave this video it’s 1,400th like 😎
Best inverted yaw spin of 2018
Awesome NEW Outro!!!
I think you need to think about centre of pressure as well as centre of gravity to make it 'fly' straight. Great fun though!
David - what if you put the rocket about 20-30 cm above the car? Like a longer pipe with the rocket at the top. Then the car would hang under the rocket and it would be pretty much self stabilszing - at least on the way up. You could even put a gyro controlled set of fins on it :P
Maybe a parachute or even one chute. Either or. Great video.
Could be really interesting to do this with compressed air or nox and a solenoid valve so you could variably "hop" over things. Maybe even some edf automatic air stability... and then see how high of a thingy or long of a gap you could jump over.
The smoke from the rocket almost makes it look like it's in the clouds on its way down.
Great video! You could probably control the rotation of the launch with the rotation of the wheels.
Hey David, what if you added like a parachute ejection system/charge to your rockets so that they can slow down upon descent. Absolutely awesome work though.
You should gear up some heavy duty servos to the rocket engine so it can be pitched forward slightly in flight. you'll gain some air control. and a chute rigged to a spare channel might save you some time and money durring testing. Keep it up love your work
That was fun . Now you invented Fpv car flying
The first person views were satisfying af
I loved the part where the car had a rocket and then it flew! And then crashed! Best part!
haha that was stupidly entertaining ! this rocket car reminds me of the old james bond films ! anyway, i prefer to jump the old way : steep ramp, 8m high, quintuple backflip, landing on all 4 !
You have the greatest outros on youtube
4:09 The poor thing is screaming... "IIIIIIIIiiii"
Good job, men 👍
2:31 I laughed so hard I scared my cat
Yes yes yes yes. Your back yes
#731: You need a parachute D.! Epic.
You should get an ARRMA 1/8 scale rc car they are one of the toughest on the market
L.O.L. I think the CGs still be a little off :-) B.T.W. you could probably use a rocket motor that's a quarter that size to get over that (and a lot less damage on landing)
And a lot less fun
L.O.L. I did/do get a laugh out of these antics (Star Destroyer especially), but wouldn't it be nice to do something that can be scaled up to full sized ;-)
Naa, it's the wing/spoiler on the back. The downforce keeps working. Take it off next time...
good point. too much drag at the back... it did start doing a backflip on its way up... a smaller rocket is still called for..
Either drag or the uneven unloading of the suspension caused by the motor's torque. It would be very hard to engineer out all of the variables in that system.
Hey David how about tilting the rocket pod forward like 2 or3 degrees for forward hopping motion and we'll a parachute mould be cool but if it went more forward it may land better
hilarious!
