The courts should require forensic analysts to analyze all the electronics used before allowing any of this kind of evidence, because too many times this kind of evidence has been tampered with.

Why any parent gives their underage children a smart phone is beyond me. They think they're giving them access to the world, rather they're giving the world access to their children.
I'd argue giving them a phone is fine, so long as they do the parenting that comes with it.
That doesn't necessarily mean hovering over their shoulder 24/7, that just breeds resentment. What it does mean is setting clear boundaries and rules, being lenient and fair when possible but making it clear where the flexibility ends. That's how you teach responsibility, not just compliance and then secrecy.
