Full throttle to start diesels. Put the nuts on the battery posts. When soldering the ends also heat the copper wires before inserting into the copper end, or it is a cold solder joint.
That Cummins rotary pump we had a 40 something auto car with that fuel system. There was some reason I was never ever ever ever supposed to run it dry. I think it tore up something in the top end of that rotary pump. I can't remember exactly what because I'm going back about 40-some years
i should know thing or two hoses fittings etc best each system and schamatic one at time bet that rad and coolant junk i paint up as i go reason is rust but kinda feel better working on junk good smell that keeps it nice

Try checking the non return valve of the high pressure pump as it is staring on ether ,it is normally at the fuel entrance
Get yourself an old edition of Motor Truck Repair manual, it might help,lots of good info.
