Everytime Gris got into her mother's palm statue, she move on to the next stage of grief. White is denial, Red is Anger, Green is Bargaining, Blue is Depression and finally she wen into acceptance at the end. Beautiful game!
You are quoting directly the five stages of grief but I don't think they apply so directly here, that's not how I percieved it, to me it felt more like this: Grey at the beginning is the sadness for the recent loss, that feeling that keeps you company in the most recent period after a tragic loss, Gris is not in denial, she is deep sadness, lost, alone. Red is Anger but the wind rushes are strikes to the soul, like bursts of Anger (and probably crying) that completely block you, in fact to manage to go through it, you must grow steady like Gris gains the power to become the rock cube. Green are the nice feelings, the remembrances, the good memories of the person, in fact this is shown by having the trees grow vegetation and something coming back alive, she even gains the power to float, there's some levity to this stage. Blue is of course depression but there's a much more positive note to it in the game, depression brings you to your lowest depths (the water), but she manages to dive through it, she even gains the help of the power of a tortoise, a shell, an armor to protect her against her enemy (the bird/eel). Yellow is the light, the glimmer of hope and good feelings and levity that drives you out of your lowest depths, she finds the light when in the deepest darkness of her grief, and that light drives her out where she finds towers of glass, beautiful in their evanescence, in their transparency, filled with light and life, she starts to live again, tries to sing but still can't, the pain is still too much until... She blooms, when she finally finds the strength in herself to open her heart and voice, that is seen when she finally can sing, and everything grows back to life when she does. She managed to recover completely but... At the last stage, confronting again the grief and loss after a recovery, with new conscience, is the last blow to the soul. There she can recover completely or fail.... and she recovers. One last note of this gigantic comment: I dunno how many noticed that even though the enemy tried to impede her proceeding (the bird by screaming, the eel by trying to bite her) all its actions only strengthened her and pushed her on, even at the end of the game. Even that is on a positive note. That's when you are struggling with your grief and every step takes you to a new direction or pushes you to react... that's when you grow.
Loved this play through. It actually helped me a few times when I was stuck. I’m interpreting this completely different than most people. I don’t know if it’s because I suffer from depression or what... But, I see it as she lost herself. She was consumed by her depression and had to fight through it to find her “voice” and herself again. I think the statue of the woman represents herself and her putting back her pieces that she lost. I may be wrong, but that’s what it represents to me. The ending was her release from her pain.
Zayel00 I’m pretty sure I’m wrong though, because there is apparently another ending pointing to that the statue is her Mom. But, in my mind that’s how it made me feel. I cried like a baby.
@@YoongisUnlitCigarette I guess the most important thing about this piece of art is not what it is or what its supposed to be but how it make you (we) feel.
I think the person who made this game must have gone through some tough stuff. I played it twice and noticed something cool. Instead of just showing the ending as a cut scene, they made it so you have to decide to walk away, move on, and say goodbye for real. It's a really good way to show how hard it is to deal with grief, and you can tell the game maker really gets it.
When Gris could finally sing again at 1:46:02, I burst into tears. I felt so much joy for her. I've never felt more attached to a video game character in my life, despite the fact that she doesn't have a word of dialogue.
1:28:50 This scene was poweful for me. I am suffering from depression and I always thought I will always suffer alone but no. This scene reminded me of that. Even when we think the whole world has left us, there will always be a light of hope that will help us to get through anything.
As an art therapist who’s gonna through grief and depression, I cannot express how deeply this game impacted me. And the ending, it was phenomenal. The art has so much emotion, all of it, the music is just as amazing. Everything that was used to make this game is amazing. I definitely will recommend this to anyone I know. It even helped me heal
You can literally screenshot ANY scene in this game, and it’s a work of art. One of THE most beautiful games ever created, and it’s not just visually. That final song between her and her mother never fails to bring tears to my eyes.
Beautiful Ending. Telling a story just through symbolism and leaving an everlasting impact. GRIS is one of those game where even it doesn't have much of a replayblity it still outshines and and be uniquely different from any other experiences you have form other games. It's visually powerful, orally powerful, the musical design is powerful and what its trying to convey us is powerful. Loved every second of it.
@Ngolo Kante nah man, crying is good for you. It's like going to the bathroom- but with emotions; so you don't get emotionally constipated and strung up. I had a good cry with this game, it's absolutely beautiful!
Finished today and its a masterpiece .For all who have to fight with Depression like myself i wanna say: you are Not alone .Hope you all find light like this sweet Girl!
I think the games interpretation could go either way; In one POV;; it's the Mother that died and its the Daughter that's going through the pains of losing someone so close to her. Collecting the memories of her Mom and remembering her piece by piece. The Eel / Bird / Mirror Image could be all the emotions of grief in one, becoming this blinding heavy mass of sludge that tries to bring, GRIS down at every turn. In the other POV;; it's the Daughter's that's died and the Mother goes through the grieving process, remembering her daughter and crying for her in the end but accepting that she's loss her star and that she has to let her go. The Eel is possibly that mass of 'don't let her go' yet in the end she has too because she was falling apart the more she tried to deny herself that ability to grieve for her daughter's death. The singing in the end imo; is just that - the pair of them accepting each others life/death and GRIS ascent to the stars, could mean for the Mother letting her go finally - with the she cried one last tear and the way she moved her arm towards the tower. // And how GRIS can finally move on from her Mother's death one last kiss and hug before continuing on her way forward and on with her life. I know I'm late but it's such a beautiful game.
So what I can picture about the story is spoiler below Gris is suffering from depression and anxiety due to the death of her mother hence the giant statue resembling a woman she’s putting back together is shattered and the land is bleak which suggests she’s doesn’t want to let go of her or want her mother to leave and losing hope and happiness while the land I’m guessing is her not knowing what to do since she looked up to her mother so her putting the statue together is her coming to terms of her mothers death while accepting it and knowing she will always be with her and the black paint which almost consumed her was guilt and/or sadness consuming her but than she realized her mom will always love her no matter where or when she’s there looking out for her so her ascending into the sky is Gris way of saying I will always love you mom and I will keep making you proud and live a happy life and I know you’ll be watching over me and protecting me
i played it with keyboard and mouse but yeah probably biggest jumpscare i've ever had in a game since that horror games are filled with them and you expect them all the time in them but to put it in a game like this lmao

I think it’s because of the lack of instructions or tutorial. It’s a beautiful game but requires a learning curve. Like going from the red fountain to the huge red hill seems like you’re missing a lot when it’s supposed to happen
What I really like about this game is that it loves to give off an illusion of choice. I finished the game in 2 days, but I always felt like I missed out alot, and turns out, its not much. But the beauty of the game, the sounds, art style always give me goosebumps.

This game has so much symbolism which most of this can be interpreted in many different ways. From start to finish; you can see yourself in the art, in the music, and in the character which she struggles with. Even with the obstacles. You can think of something in your life and just reflect. It’s such a beautiful game. A piece of modern art which should be celebrated.
I can't exactly say what this game was about but it was marvellous, thrilling, stunning, mesmerizing, emotionally touching, tear-jerking. The OST is worth buying and listeninng apart from the game. This is the case when i can say that computer games are the ART!
What a beautiful metaphor for losing yourself in depression and finding yourself again. I think the voice character you play as is the soul of all of the constructs you witness with in the game. She represents hope, however aimless she is, she continues too search. The near barren landscape, broken bridges, the desolation of the absence of color, and the ever present theme of reaching for something beyond sadness. How in nearly every religion, we wish upon beings greater then us to fix us, and how amazing it is that it almost seems like the stars know you better then you know yourself at times. I love that in the end, she was the catalyst that fixes her stars. How she only needs to find herself and love herself to begin healing. What an amazing masterpiece of art, music, and emotion.
Thanks for this walkthrough. It helped me near the ending. I was literally sobbing at the final scene. A masterful game to be admired for its precision, whether it be visuals, sound, pacing and so on. An experience to remember.
I cried, for real... I cried... I've been struggling with anxiety many, many years. It's painful to see yourself through those states, those emotions, when someone yells at you, when world seems to bite you on every step you take, but sometimes you need to be strong as a rock, flow yourself like a fish and fly above your state of mind like a bird... This game is a masterful piece of art. Thanks for this video... Seriously, from the bottom of my heart. You read it from an avocado 🥑
After playing the game, and understanding what she’s going trough- i cry even more watching the intro again, than i did at the ending scene. DAMN THIS GAME IS BEAUTIFUL.
GRIS comes to mind when I think of my favorite games. It's beautiful and whole. I can't really do it justice describing it. Visuals and audio are stunning. Storyline is sorrowful then hopeful as it journies through grief and growth. Game play ties in with the story very well as you work through the world. I definetly cried, laughed, and felt through it. It's a game you can tell someone(s) clearly put a ton of thought and care into. It's moving, intractable, livable art.
This game is so beautiful, it has such a pretty story, and the graphics.. ive never seen something like this before. I literally cried at the end because its so emotional and deep in some way. I would totally play again, its one of the most beautiful game ive ever played, its a masterpiece.
Acabo de terminar Gris y debo decir que fue una experiencia maravillosa, termine llorando con el final, es increible lo que puede llegar a transmitirte este juego sin un solo dialogo de voz....20/10 super recomendado.
Came here from Psych of Play's video about "how Gris made you cry with its colors" thinking okay what could there be that made people cry. Watched the playthrough like okay this game is absolutely gorgeous but what is there to cry about, and then the ending hit me and here I am, full-on sobbing 5 minutes later :')
This game should receive more recognition . It’s a masterful work. I would love some sort of continuation. Game, series, movie. Hell an infomercial with Gris as the spokesman would even be well received .
For those who stock at 52:50 all you had to do is to jump 2 times to reach the butterflies and when you reach them jump for the 3rd time and that should do it
One of the best games I've ever played. And I've been gaming since the last 20 years. There are very very few games that are as good as Gris is. Very few.
Thank you for your video! I'm currently playing Gris for the first time and I've been using your walkthrough as a guide in the many areas I get stuck in! It's great 😊
I’m done with the game. I played the last bits on the big screen to truly understand why people said they cried. Wow, that ending was truly spectacular. I both smiled and cried. But I swear those gosh darned red butterfly jumps were the only aspect of the game that bugged me no end...
The music during the part around 14:00 with headphones on in the dark seriously triggers my fight or flight. Feels like I'm having a panic attack when that shit starts up. Absolutely gorgeous game
Waw I just finished the game, thanks to you. This was an artistic and visual experience, the whole time I was impressed by the beauty of this universe but the ending had me in tears almost. Congrats to the team who made this game, I hope they will do many more. A bit more on the context would have engaged me more from the start, but I got it was about grief and sadness. Whew !
Ive only just played this game. And i have to say this is the one of the most beautiful games that I have ever played in a while. The story development is sure emotional.. I take my hat of to the people that made this game what it is today. This game is beautiful and the ending was sure emotional..
Just Finished it today :) story, melody, audio, musics, graphics and everything is beautifully perfect ! Enjoyed a 2D game after a long time & feels good man

Thanks MkIceAndFire for completing the journey of GRIS, words are missing to express my admiration for the art employed in this game, excellent work to play and edit, Congratulations.
I love this game so much. The art style, the music, the concepts...it's all so beautiful. I've recently been enjoying video games exploring the themes of grief and loss in various ways. It's always so beautiful seeing how different people cope and conceptualise the passing. Having said that, I totally read this as someone coming to terms with their sexuality the first time I played through it.

2:08:00 i cried here 😭 i can feel this scene inside me 💔 i know how Gris feels
The scene is very emotional, I cried without knowing what happened 😔
You are so pitiful, condolences 😢😔😔😔
The concept is beautifull
I could sleep when i play this game coz of the melody and art , gorgeus game
Except for the eel jump scare. I had headphones on full volume when I first played it, almost gave me a heart attack.
What a game!!! Brought me to tears.
The art style, the music and above all the message behind it. At a loss for words.❤❤❤
The beautiful thing about this game is that none of our interpretations of this game are wrong. That's how it's meant to be experienced 💜
1:02:15 makes me tear up every time…This is what makes videogames true art
After playing the game, and understanding what she’s going trough- i cry even more watching the intro again, than i did at the ending scene. DAMN THIS GAME IS BEAUTIFUL.
54:00 is the exact moment that I feel in love with this game
Yesss very beautiful
Played the game in one evening and
boy oh boy.
I was afraid if there is a limit to how many screenshots you can take xD
such a beautiful piece of art.
people that say having no commentary in gaming videos is bad have obviously never played GRIS...
Daniel or Journey

This game managed to make me cry like a waterfall without a single ounce of dialogue.
Acabo de terminar Gris y debo decir que fue una experiencia maravillosa, termine llorando con el final, es increible lo que puede llegar a transmitirte este juego sin un solo dialogo de voz....20/10 super recomendado.
Thanks, this video helped me a couple of times when I was stuck - what a fantastic game this was. I hope it does well and we see more games like this!
Damn eel almost gave me a heart attack
I cried 10/10.
@Brian Angel so true, what a wholesome and positive message to spread, thanks you ^^
Came here from Psych of Play's video about "how Gris made you cry with its colors" thinking okay what could there be that made people cry. Watched the playthrough like okay this game is absolutely gorgeous but what is there to cry about, and then the ending hit me and here I am, full-on sobbing 5 minutes later :')
55:20 scared me and gave me chills and made me cry idk why I was just so engrossed and it gave me this feeling I've never had before
this feels so emotional anyone Els thinks so?
Yes
Austin Ludlow I cried, absolutely UGLY CRIED when I finished it. So much emotion... so much pain... then the release of it all at the end.
Yes, I cried
Before even watching a whole 30 seconds, I thought to myself "this is going to be an experience".
around 1:25:45 I love the music and liquid eel boss and again at 1:28:04 I love when it gets all metal when the turtle emerges xD
This game should receive more recognition . It’s a masterful work. I would love some sort of continuation. Game, series, movie. Hell an infomercial with Gris as the spokesman would even be well received .
My goodness, what a work of art this game is. I hope the developer is working on a sequel.
They’re making Neva :)
this game is so gorgeous! The world..the music ALL OF IT I LOVED IT its so peaceful
For those who stock at 52:50 all you had to do is to jump 2 times to reach the butterflies and when you reach them jump for the 3rd time and that should do it
thank you very much ❤
I was stuck, thank you!!
ما ضبطن معي🦦
Thank you sooooooo much I was stuck ❤❤
The ending is spiritual and gorgeous!
This play through has actually helped me. I truly appreciate this so much.
I think I am doing my self a disservice for watching rather than go play the game
This brings me the same feelings that Journey brought me. Such a stunning, emotional piece.
32:30 it wouldve taken me years to figure that one out, thanks :D
One of the best games I've ever played.
And I've been gaming since the last 20 years.
There are very very few games that are as good as Gris is. Very few.
Thank you for your video! I'm currently playing Gris for the first time and I've been using your walkthrough as a guide in the many areas I get stuck in! It's great 😊
So hard to find a walkthrough without comments.
Thank you so much🌸
I’m done with the game. I played the last bits on the big screen to truly understand why people said they cried. Wow, that ending was truly spectacular. I both smiled and cried. But I swear those gosh darned red butterfly jumps were the only aspect of the game that bugged me no end...
This game is absolutely gorgeous. I have nothing else to say other than, " I love it."
52:47 That was the end for me. Those stupid birds wouldn't lift me up no matter what.
I am at the same problem, send help
x2
omfg same situation im frustrated af
Have you been able to jump? Fucking thing refuses to work.
Same here. Is it a bug or what
The music during the part around 14:00 with headphones on in the dark seriously triggers my fight or flight. Feels like I'm having a panic attack when that shit starts up.
Absolutely gorgeous game
It’s so beautiful, I feel like I might cry
I am crying...and barely even began. Most beautiful piece of art I've ever seen.
This game man,,,, I absolutely sobbed at the ending this game is so beautiful
What is truly deep, is that everybody can recognize themselves and interpret the game according our experiences. It makes it more emotional
Simply beautiful. Breath taking symphony of colors and music in the end.
Whew !
This is so beautiful and the fact that you play it without commentary makes it even better. Great work!
Enjoyed a 2D game after a long time & feels good man
I recently tried this game on my new iPhone and I couldn’t stop my tears.
Das ist kein Spiel;
Das ist das Werk eines Künstlers
Ein wahres Meisterstück
1:03:22 I legit can never watch this part without crying the ost just hits right where it hurts for some reason
Simple yet beautiful. Absolutely loved it. Music is also good
1:24:25 this scene is too beautiful.
For those who are stuck in the jump at 52:52 , you can only do it by pressing jump + up, if you press any others it won't make the long jump
Any advice for those of us playing on our phones and only have a touch pad? I can't get past this part.
I'm playing it on android and i can't get out of there :(
Cried so hard playing this, what a beautiful game..
Thanks MkIceAndFire for completing the journey of GRIS, words are missing to express my admiration for the art employed in this game, excellent work to play and edit, Congratulations.
Teu vídeo incrível está me ajudando a passar nos momentos em que eu ficaria horas perdida rs
Gostei muito desse jogo.
Parabéns ao seu vídeo 🎉🎉
Amazing game, I think I'm in love. Music, level desing, want play more such games
I love this game so much. The art style, the music, the concepts...it's all so beautiful. I've recently been enjoying video games exploring the themes of grief and loss in various ways. It's always so beautiful seeing how different people cope and conceptualise the passing. Having said that, I totally read this as someone coming to terms with their sexuality the first time I played through it.
mind blowing art direction. It's like visiting a dream.
*It starts slow, I almost didn’t keep playing. I’m so glad I did.. This game is a masterpiece in every sense of the word.*
Beautiful fusion of Art, music and emotions. Reminded me of the game called JOURNEY
thats beautiful. goosebump. thanks for upload!
Already this looks goddamn gorgeous
Just beat it. Absolutely lovely.
Interesting, entertaining, and quite a spirital journey, loved this game.
