      @Spazzmatazzz 3 года назад +2

The foam will better insulate the line sets to make the unit even more efficient.
The a/c failing will have nothing to do with the copper lines in the wall unless you kink them creating a weak spot and leave it, or you run a drywall screw etc through them.
I will admit foam is a pain in the ass if you want to run future wired through that bay, but nothing you can't cut or run a wire snake through.
The line set will never be a problem with the a/c/heat pump if someone hasn't poked a hole in it.

As a hvac tech, easiest way to fix the short line set is to extend it by using the extra from the other kine sets. But you’ll need right size couplings, nitrogen and regulator, hvac gauges, might need 5/16” (aka 410a )adapter for the out door unit to hook up the gauges hoses to it, brazing rods, turbo torch or oxygen/acetylene torch kit. Then you will have to cut to length the piping you need. Reem the burrs in the pipe. Sand pipe, add couplings. Set nitrogen and purge a little through the lines you will be brazing. I recommend practicing brazing first before u start. Once brazing is done let it cool down and u can flare the new pipe to the unit.

18:52 my husband says that you can use the extra tubbing you have and use silver soldering to add it to your line that is too short. You will need a pair a couplings, Silfos15 solder and an acetylene torch. The HVAC unit is pre-loaded with enough Freon to reach farther than 25 ft.

Suggestions from a building contractor for 12 years: I'm sure your did off camera but don't forget to caulk the dis-connect block where it meets the siding. Use the excess AC lines to make up for the shortage. Not ideal but just add fittings and test for a few days before you close up the walls. These units can clog without maintenance/cleaning and flood back into the house. Make sure you have easy-access to the drainage tubes. When you insulate around those lines use fiberglass insulation. IF, there is ever an issue with those lines you don't want to be chopping out foam. Remember removing the water heater foam mess? Now imagine chopping that out of the wall cavity by the front door in a finished/lived in space. When you spray leave a void 12" wide that you can fill with fiberglass top to bottom. Think towards the future when these may need to be replaced and new lines run. Lastly, with a young pup you may want to build a wire cage around the AC units or, spray the lines with hot sauce where they drop from the container to the coupling. The insulated lines look the right size and height to be chew-able or tug on. The smell alone should keep him away. You both are doing such a great job. Don't get discouraged. Chin up and see you 3 next week!

You two make me think of my wife and I when we bought our house, and the way we painted the house together. The only thing Avrille would/could not do is get up too high up on a ladder. She hated heights. So I cleaned and painted the pressed steel ceilings (the house was built in 1936 and also has suspended floors of Oregon pine) and she was happy to paint the walls with a roller. I have just started to watch your channel, and am really impressed with what you guys have done. Congrats on a great job, but most of all of having the right attitude. Nothing works out perfectly, so just go with the flow and make a plan. All the best wishes to you and your budding family; dogs, donkey and all animals included of course.

for A person that has never done this stuff before and needs to read books and watch videos Spencer is doing A awsome job. It's not easy At All building A house A lot of codes And rules you have to follow And knowing what your doing it takes Alot of time . Keep it up your doing Amazing it's coming out like you done it before And I know how hard it is to do so I just give you A pat on the back lot ppl probably don't understand how hard and much work it is. Your video makes it look easy but it's far from it keep up the good work and looking forward to the next video

Spencer, you two, are such an awesome couple! You both remind me of my wife and I, when we were younger. We been married now, for 44 years and it will be awesome to see the two of you do the same! You are an amazing, self made man. The research, the learning curves, you are mastering them all! Your wife is so proud, and never hesitates to let you know. The work you are doing is great! Just think, you and she, will have built this entire farm, from start to finish, on your own. What a wonderful legacy to leave your child/(children)? ;-)

I do HVAC and having lines that are too short is, while annoying, an easy enough fix. since you've already ordered the flaring tool to shorten the lines, you may have enough left over to flair the excess that you cut off and use that to extend the other lines with a union.

    • @albowrx

Or instead of using more flares and unions he could have brazed the pipes and running nitrogen through them. Like someone else pointed out, better have a whole r410 tank, gauges, and a weighing scale. You'll need it often

    • @albowrx
      @albowrx 3 года назад +31

@@kylef2254 No no no. The system can run low for a long time depending on the leak low on refrigerant. These systems aren't like your central ac, so you don't charge them until the suction line gets bear cold, like most bubbas do it. These units have to have the refrigerant weighed. And if there's a leak, a tech will not just add on. Since you can't tell how much these units will.need by the gauges alone, they will.alway need to be charged by weight. Whay do I know? HVAC Guy here 25 years in the trade. Minisplit Certified Factory trained
    You must do two things
Use the Mitsubishi flare nuts. Do not use the flare nuts that come with the Lineset.
    1.Cut the copper ends&debur
    2. Throwaway the flare nuts
    3. Install the Mitsubushi Flare nuts
    4. Reflare the lines with a YellowJacket Flare Tool Part#60278(or equivalent tool)
Mitsubishi Flare Nuts are far Superior to the Lineset flare nuts. They have more Brass meaning less likely to Crack or loosen up.
The lines that are too long do not need to zigzag, You can shorten them so long as you do not violate the minimum allowable length. It's in the instructions. Usually 16'
    The line thats too short.
    2 options
    Get a longer line set - 50'
    -OR-
    Extended what you have
Using a copper coupling and oxy/acetylene torch with 15% Stay-Silv brazing rod while purging the line with Nitrogen.

Real quick, great job -wonderful progress, I just wanted to make a suggestion. I understand that you cut the siding carefully on the third AC split unit on the west side, as to not cut or damage the sheathing but If I were you I would still seal the square seam with a bead of silicone on all 4 sides or however you would want to do that, because technically...you just made a penetration that can allow water to penetrate behind the siding. Just a suggestion, keep on doing what you do, also as an electrician you need to leave a minimum of 6 inches of spare wire at every connection for future repairs or upgrades, it is not easy to pull new NMC cable in sheetrock with spray foam if the wires ever burn, break or are damaged. I hope you read my comment before installing the spray foam. God bless you and keep you and your family safe!

Wow, I never thought that Beau could get any cuter, but dayum, she does, her name is perfect she is "beautiful:!
You two make a super cute baby!!!
As a grandmother to two sweet, adorable little boys and the mother of 3 grown-up adult boys I NEED a grandaughter, Beau will you be mine? lol she is so cute I want to squeeze those cheeks and hug her.:)
Also, Beau getting her wave down pat in the stroller was too much, she is funny just like Kensie, I mean don't get me wrong Spencer is funny too but Kensie is the usual instigator. lol
Spencer, you look great just the way you are man, you do not need hair to look good you already are! :)
And Kensie you are such a good mom, you also are gorgeous, and wow your muscles TEE HEE you crack me up! You look so good after having a baby, it is very noticeable you are working out and taking care of your self...good job.
I nominate the shipping container you just bought to be Beau's "she shed" or playhouse, once you no longer use it for storage,.....
BUT WAIT lol I have a feeling you will not only not give it up as storage I think you might just purchase yet another "evergreen" container to add to your storage..I know I can never get enough storage. my house has no place to store things at all I have already outgrown my storage space and moved into a bigger one, now that is too small lol...one container, two container, three containers more, four containers, five container LOL LOL LOL
Ok, one more thing to add to my novel, lol I was just commenting with another viewer recently on how much you two impress me, I am so excited and happy that soon you will be in your new home...and yes, it is true Spencer is THE man, I am so impressed how he has NO prior construction knowledge or experience and yet take a look at the exemplary job he has done on your home......when he is not happy or feels he could do better he is confident enough to say he is going to do it over and do ti better....you two deserve everything that is coming your way.....GREAT job guys!!

Another note from a retired electrician. The 240 wiring to your AC units outside require the white wire to either be painted or taped black to indicate that they are hot conductors. and the conduit leaving the safety switch is supposed to be strapped right below the disconnect. Usually most electricians use what is called a minie.

Connecting refrigerant pipe for indoor is on back-center-down side or same position before unboxing the indoor unit, easy to access for servicing and dismounting the unit.
Connecting refrigerant pipe in indoor first is a proper. Cutting or adding excess pipe in outdoor unit is more easy.
