But what greater honor for a student having a teacher on the scale of Alfred Brendel. For me, one of the most notable and influential pianists of the twentieth century, and undoubtedly one of the best (or best) interpreter of Beethoven, Schumann, Schubert and Liszt. Sangyoung Kim is very lucky, so congratulations to her ... Of course a great greeting to my favorite pianist and referent.
I have admired Brendel since he was recording in the late 50's onward. He always seemed to be so underappreciated. I wish he had concertized a fraction as much as Mr Rubinstein. They were in the same league, in their supreme musical story-telling ability, and the degree to which the composer's musical intent permeated their playing. It is a privilege just to hear Brendel's exposition of Beethoven, especially.
a great pianist in the tradition of Paul Badura Skoda, Claudio Arrau, Wilhelm Kempff , but he had the misfortune of being the contemporary of Sviatoslav Richter and couldn't avoid being overshadowed
she's not 'organic' enough ,.too much maniquered refinment without really knowing what the music is trying to say. i find this alot with many asian performers, sorry its just my opinion , dont mean to be a racist stereotype :L
Respect for the courage to face Alfred Brendel in a masterclass.

This is fascinating and exhausting all at the se time. More please.
Very interesting - Brendel and Rubinstein have always been my two favorite pianists.
What a dreadfully unimaginative student.

These days many asian perfomers win piano competitions. 임윤찬 won the Van Cliburn competition. He has both technical and musical ability.
“Not to be racist but (something racist)” is my favorite true combo
