1:01:01 Coming back after years and only just picked up on this, when Todd says "You know I love you don't you? You know I love you." Alice is *mouthing* those exact words, showing this has happened so many times before. That's sick!
Yeah, it's kinda weird how Todd has these moments where he realizes that he's hurting her, verbally, physically, he says sorry, and then goes back to hurting her after. That must be confusing and hurting Alice.
If you haven’t finished the game don’t read on, SPOILERS No, the REALLY sick this is he did this to 2 FAMILIES, Alice is an android, HE DID THIS TO HIS HUMAN AND ANDROID FAMILY!!!!😡😡😡
@@tracycarter7735 Spoilers! He didn’t do it to his past family, but he did drug abuse. That’s why his wife ran off, and he ended up taking out his anger on Alice because she couldn’t replace his daughter. You see this at the end when Kara and the family cross the border.
rewatching the series and it's probably just me, but markus's voice compared to kara's and connor's has that slightest bit more nuance (less robotic, anyhow), which makes sense since markus would technically have more emotional leeway as compared to connor and kara who have strictly professional relationships at this point in the game. definitely a bit nitpicky and probably imagining things, but i like it!!
Very good detail! I do enjoy the fact that it makes a lot of sense because Markus and Carl has that father and son like dynamic ever since the start to begin with, even prior to him going deviant. Carl treated him as a human, taught him interests in music and art, and so on. We've seen that the androids were always able to do a few things outside of their original programming (Markus with painting, Conner saving a fish or deciding not to shoot a tracy, so on.), and I believe Carl brought out the best in Markus by treating him so nicely
Right, I agree. And also Connor’s (Bryan Dechart) voice actor’s voice is actually like how he sounds in the game. In real life he has this robotic voice aswell
Don't worry I am like you too i am also rewatching the series and the point you made about markus's voice I never thought about that and by also noticed he act's little more like human maybe I am the only one but his dialogue's and actions feel more leaned towards the human side
Something I just realized: When Connor picks up the gun at 10:00, he's already deviating. A pop up thjng ahows up that shows a law which says that androids aren't allowed to use any type of weapon. By Jack deciding to pick up the gun, he was already turning Connor into a deviant. It was happening since the beginning. That's cool
If you dont turn connor into a deviant he still breaks laws to accomplish his mission. It might be deviancy but i think it is a flaw in his system which makes him do whatever to accomplish his mission. He is only following the order he got, save the hostage, kill deviant leader. It's likely for me that it was more of a flaw
this is excellent, it is built into the gameplay that Connor has to be a deviant all in the beginning. In fact they are human right from the start(because players are), so exactly constitute humanity? Do we build the soul by building the physical basis? Can humanity be coded?
@@pl0xie494 I mean, there is one interaction with the AI in Connor's Zen Garden program that brings to light why he could do things other androids couldn't and with what purpose. It shows that there was, indeed, a goal for Connor's deviation, but it is not achieved in the best ending, since the outcome is quite tragic. If you know what I'm talking about, good for you. If you don't, but are okay with me telling you, I can. Just want to make sure I'm not ruining your experience with spoilers =)
There's no way I can be rude to a robot that resembles a person. I mean I apologize to tables and chairs when I bump into them, and they're the farthest thing from human 😂
@ZEalousZATZfig the problem with AI isn't the fact that they can do certain jobs better than humans. It's that people refuse to adapt to the jobs that are created from the advances in AI. Albeit some of the jobs that it opens up requires specialized education, but that's what makes free/subsidized education so important. Eventually you'll see countries which have invested into education reign ahead compared to those that didn't.
@@Roflmao6173 That's why Spain is going down. The govt has been cutting down on money for education, healthcare, and pensions for the elderly in the last years. And since the corona thing started up until now they've bought 3 shipments of useless masks and testing kits. Where'd the money go? POOF, gone. No good explanations given. Unemployment was pretty bad before, but now it's apocalyptic.
The amount of detail is crazy the fact that when you zoom in on him painting, he’s actually painting is enough to put this game above a lot of others I hope they make another game with these exact same mechanics
the same reason that some of us get offended when someone is offended. We're offended by violence of any kind. Some of us feel it strong, some weak, but it's still there.
I absolutely love hearing Jacks theories and speculations of the future from 4 years ago. Like at 1:07:09 when he starts thinking about the possibility of AI generated art. We know now that AI can in fact generate art, and writing, and other things. Which is wild. And then at 1:18:50 when he gets excited to see his question getting brought up. Or at 27:40 when he dives into the autonomy and ease of androids. Another good one is 31:20 and 32:45 when he talked about the job aspects of androids and the segregations taking into account the racism and labor discrimination issues. I love how he compared it to hidden figures.
It's because they themselves are often not treated as valuable members of society. Their families aren't taking care of them, the android is a help but also company they no longer have
Since coporations like Cyberlife only value profit, they wouldn't want to put that feature in, because it would deter people from buying the Android. We already are wary of Alexa and Siri in real life, and some of their recordings were used in a court case, which hurt sales. I think it's likely a privacy setting would be made or the function would never be offered
It should be the child's decision if they want to be ripped from their families, I think it would cause conflicts with androids copping them out like that. I think they should just be physically built to protect children and vulnerable beings when there's danger in the moment
@@TP-tg8cc well, yes, but actually no. you see, children naturally love their parents no matter how shitty they are, especially young children who don't really understand how the world works yet, so when given an option of stay with bad parent or not, they will probably chose to stay with the parent, which doesnt help the problem of the parent being a bad parent. the bots should just call them all a therapist tbh
One thing I love about the beginning of Marcus’s story line is when he paints and just replicates (1:19:44), his brush goes straight across. However, once he thinks creatively (1:21:21), it moves in different directions.
The amount of detail in this is still incredible. They made advertisements and movie posters and articles and everything that don’t technically add to the gameplay, they just add so much world building and atmosphere. Absolutely insane and so beautiful. Definitely still one of THE best games out there
while i agree that this game is good, it's good to note that most games of this style have a ton of little things added for atmosphere. the amount of detail is no doubt impressive, but it really doesn't make this game much different from the others.
@@bagpaper6964 no yeah you're absolutely right, it is amazing and has lots of effort put in no doubt. i just think compared to a lot of other aspects of this game, it's pretty minor. just my opinion tho!

@@laboskie349 that would be cool! i don't know if there would be enough content to fill a whole new game but i have to at least somewhat agree with you because the storyline is amazing! i completely fell in love with it the second i gave it a try, even though i didn't think i would like it :)
A little history on Detroit from someone who lives there: Detroit was THE automotive hub, automotive manufacturing started in Detroit and Flint and turned both cities into industrial boom towns. The reason Detroit's economy crashed was because the automotive industry left and moved manufacturing operations overseas because they didn't want to pay the wages that the unions were asking for. Hence the multitude of abandoned factories and plants. Of all the innumerable factories that were once centered here only one GM plant is left in Flint. It's really sad and it forced most of the population to move away in search of work so if you talk to anybody who's been around for the past 40 to 60 years they'll tell you all about it. You'll also find that many of the folks here that have been around since then don't have the greatest opinion of the automotive industry and the main big companies like GM, Ford, Chrysler, and Chevy because they basically abandoned the cities because they didn't want to work with the unions and pay laving wages.
The fact that Jack literally completely guessed an interactive cutscene in the game is absolutely mind-boggling. Now that I think of it, Jack overall is an amazing guesser at games.
I suppose it'd be his experience with games. Certain genres seem to take off of each other. It gets easy to guess when you've played as many games as seàn has!
I like how they attack androids for stealing their job, but the androids didn't make themselves or put themselves in those positions... its other humans. They're focussing their hate on the wrong group.
I agree! I'm sure we will one day have companies like Cyberlife in real life making AI machines that will kill countless jobs for millions of people across the world, so the government and the companies themselves need to work together to help the people who'll be affected by these changes to transition to new jobs. It's similar to the immense discussion going on between coal miners and the push for green energy. Coal miners need help to transition to new types of blue-collar jobs, not be completely abandoned by their government. Detroit Become Human is far from a perfect game, but it raises valid questions of what humans will do once machines start to takeover most of the job market.
Following the United States withdraw from Vietnam during the Vietnam war soldiers were told not to where uniforms out in public, because of public opinion about the war, despite they were the ones that got drafted, and were following orders, they didn't sign up for this war, they were merely the victims of it, and yet they got treated like shit by their own people. Misplaced blame isn't something new this game, unfortunately humans do it quite often.
THIS! EXACTLY THIS! I've been saying this for years. It's not the androids' fault. It's the fault of capitalism and every corporation that exploits a resource because they care more for profit than people
Right??? Like he was talking about at the beginning of Markus' playthrough, AI really has started stripping us slowly away from our jobs. He didn't realize just how true his statement would ring 5 years later.
Tbh I never thought things like the androids in DBH (especially the part about humans being replaced with androids and then losing their jobs, the misdirected anger, etc) could ever be real or at least so soon. I always assumed it was in some far off future. But the more advanced we get with AI, the more it seems like a honest possibility. The only ones benefiting in the end are the big corporations
@@Randomamarie It will happen eventually. We are still a ways from massive unemployment due to AI. I think by 2038 we will have AI roughly as sophisticated as the ones depicted, but I do not think Androids will be as good.
I love Carl, because all the other humans in the game are cruel, or abusive, or (as Sean described it) "racist" towards the androids, and then Carl "Wanna try painting?"
Literally everyone likes Carl. It basically impossible not to love a sweet old man who literally doesn't give two shits if you're an android or a human, and genuinely cares for Markus like his own son, and appreciates every little thing he does for him. 🌸💕
Same, i also really like hank. He hated androids just like everyone else due to personal issues, but after gaining a friendship with connor he realizes that androids are a form of intelligent life that have as much feelings as a human could.

I love how he plays this game.. he not only plays it fully and respects the work that went into creating this beautiful game, but he also uses it as a chance to articulate his thoughts and opinions on the themes and events that we see-and a lot of his guesses/little conversations end up being correct and relate closely to this game. Plus, he’s funny and so adorable??? I’ve been having a hard time finding a way to watch this whole game fully (because my attention span is so small and i get bored very easily) but I’m definitely going to binge this whole series of his!!
Something as I’m re-watching this I just remembered is that technically both Marcus and Connor are special. Connor is an experimental model of a detective android and Marcus is completely unique because he was specifically made for Carl… While Kara is an already out mass produced model that based on the beginning of her section, isn’t even a newer model
Made specially, yeah, but in the tech demo Kara is shown as the first android to make it out of the processing plant while being deviant. She was the first to awaken and not be reset. So all three of them are unique in a way, which is really cool
@@pb4705 I believe it’s in the scene where Connor is analyzing the video Markus made, he sees all the schematics and info in a brief moment. He also sees that Markus is an RK prototype, which can lead to him asking Amanda if he’s really a unique model.
@@JaraelMoonsilverWe can also infer that Carl and Kamski were close from the paintings done by Carl in Kamski’s house, which also hints to Markus being a gift from Kamski to Carl
Because they are the least affected by this. All they require now is someone to take care of them. Old people have the money to afford androids, specially because they are so cheap. They don't have to think about employment, rent or anything. Androids are not a competition for them.
Yeah it seems like the ones that are pretty kind to their androids are elderly and children. Just from the opening Markus scene, I could tell that kids saw their android like a member of the family, and loved them a lot. Same with elderly, that old man on the bench with his android said thank you and spoke politely and everything when she helped him up. However, adults don't seem to understand that it's just general decency to be respectful of these machines, even if they are just "a piece a plastic", like that jogging guy who spoke rude and threw his water bottle back at his android.
Yeah im happy someone else noticed this. That the preacher predicted that Marcus would lead the Android rebellion, now that can be nuking the city, being killed and north taking over and leading a violent revolution, or a peaceful protest and them winning Detroit in a diferente way to the point where it is mostly androids and not humanity.
At 1:01:00 when todd is telling alice "he loves her" you can see alice mouthing along with him showing that this is not the first time this has happened. This game is absolutely amazing there are so many small details and it's fantastic
I like to imagine a world where the androids actually said what jack said Carl: "Don't let anyone else tell you who you should be..." Markus: "Damn straight, carl"
When I was younger I used to type ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ when googling something on my computer, I would also kiss it better when it wasn’t working... *I think the robots are on my side.*
I used to threaten my computer when it would run slow or not work 😂 Or i would ask it if it could hurry up, and when it wouldn’t work I would yell at it 🚫🧢😂
Being nice to androids is so much more beneficial Notice how Carl’s and Markus’s relationship is so much more human, and despite Markus being and android they treat each other like friends. Carl has such a good relationship with Markus that he could get a robot to paint something, That doesn’t exist
@@irlizuru I just meant that you wouldn't have to be nice to (non-sentient) androids because in real life programmers can easily control a self learning algorithm. The idea that a computer could itself rewrite it's programming is possible but only with lots of data and in a situation where the creator has designed the algorithm not just to learn but to "grow". The idea of the androids having a system where they can change their own code is extremely unlikely unless the creator wanted it. You wouldnt have to be nice to them as emotion is a phsycological connection between stimulus and pleasure which the andriods would not have as they (unlike humans) have not been designed (by evolution) to reproduce via sexual reproduction but have been designed to work. Speaking of evolution, if an algorithm were to change its code it would have to create a new algorithm for that code as it cannot change the code it runs on while it is on. In this context an algorith designed to evolve could learn more efficient code or more data and implement it into a new version of itself much like human evolution. Sorry i dont mean to babble i just beleve that its important not to worry that punching your pc will make it kill you
Thomas Pankiewicz i agree with a lot with what you said, I just dont see see how reproduction changes my connection with something non-sentient. Like, if we take the game for example, it is seen that Markus (non-sentient being until later on in the game) and Carol both have a connection. Like, Markus wasn’t sentient yet, he just filled space with gossip and followed orders, but there was still a feeling of connection there, at least from a player stand point. I do agree with everything else you said however and I’m not trying to start a pointless debate btw.
What kind of intrigues me about the androids is how they don’t report their owners for illegal actions. For example, when Todd’s android repeatedly saw that he had illegal drugs and abused his kid, she couldn’t do anything. Considering that the androids also probably collect data and send that to their parent company, it’s interesting that people are so brave about even harassing them in the first place.
The scene where Connor glances at Emma then turns and walks away, 'mission accomplished' hanging over his shoulder, as the music picks up. Man, so damn cool.
@@sir.stayton6269 it doesnt really have a specific meaning, jack was just joking and saying how the androids and fish are similar because they "dont feel emotions, and humans dont like them".
@@sir.stayton6269 for me, the fish was on the ground and wasn't notice by anyone, except Conner that put it back were it could live (that made connor to start feeling) so Connor for doing that choice made it reflect the players that humans don't like different. animals are different to humanity and plants. (my thought for this question I hope it gives what it meant for my perspective and opinion)

I am so glad you noticed it too. Surprised jack didn’t make a star wars reference (I think he’s seen all the Star Wars movies and enjoyed them. Idk. Feel like a watched an episode of him mentioning it)
Honestly, who else here would probably say thank you out of habit? If you say thank you or please to humans, I think saying thank you to something that's human at a glance would be natural
through this whole playthrough, jack has a tendency to say "hey this game reminds me of this study/article/etc." and then at some point it comes up and he goes "hey thats what i was talking about!" and its delightful
In the beginning with Marcus when the pastor is yelling an says that “you are the evil that will come of this world” and then he’s the one he leads the revolution is crazy.
Well most likely it seems like most if the androids or at least the "female" ones are for taking care of kids which the game could be commenting in how we expect everything that looks female to take care of the kids and house work but the males to go out and do other things ....also the androids only have black and white in the males and white in the females

Agreed, same case for me.

Coming back after years and only just picked up on this, when Todd says "You know I love you don't you? You know I love you." Alice is *mouthing* those exact words, showing this has happened so many times before. That's sick!
I never even noticed that - I thought she was just kind of silently asking Kara for help or something, but that's just so much worse
I know man, it’s such a neat detail that just adds to her trauma my god.
Yeah, it's kinda weird how Todd has these moments where he realizes that he's hurting her, verbally, physically, he says sorry, and then goes back to hurting her after. That must be confusing and hurting Alice.
If you haven’t finished the game don’t read on, SPOILERS
No, the REALLY sick this is he did this to 2 FAMILIES, Alice is an android, HE DID THIS TO HIS HUMAN AND ANDROID FAMILY!!!!😡😡😡
@@tracycarter7735
Spoilers!
I was searching for a comment like this!
When Connor copies others voices bothers me
Don't worry I am like you too i am also rewatching the series and the point you made about markus's voice I never thought about that and by also noticed he act's little more like human maybe I am the only one but his dialogue's and actions feel more leaned towards the human side
Something I just realized:
When Connor picks up the gun at 10:00, he's already deviating.
@@pl0xie494 There is some info in the game on this, but it could be a spoiler for you.
this is excellent, it is built into the gameplay that Connor has to be a deviant all in the beginning. In fact they are human right from the start(because players are), so exactly constitute humanity? Do we build the soul by building the physical basis? Can humanity be coded?
The Dolphin Queen there is? i havent seen it
@@pl0xie494 I mean, there is one interaction with the AI in Connor's Zen Garden program that brings to light why he could do things other androids couldn't and with what purpose.

I love how the elderly are so nice to their androids. They treat them like actual people
Yeah
I think it's because they grew up in a time where Android's didn't exist and so they don't take them for granted
They're from a generation that's more likely to be courteus and polite, or maybe health problems have softened them up. I know mine did.
It's because they themselves are often not treated as valuable members of society.
Their families aren't taking care of them, the android is a help but also company they no longer have
I would too
@Jonah Bryan well these old people in the game aren’t from the 50s and shit
Androids should have a safety feature where if they witness child abuse then they quietly call CPS.
oh thats genius

You'll also find that many of the folks here that have been around since then don't have the greatest opinion of the automotive industry and the main big companies like GM, Ford, Chrysler, and Chevy because they basically abandoned the cities because they didn't want to work with the unions and pay laving wages.
this is absolutely fascinating - thank you so much for explaining. detroit sounds like a really interesting place, with a lot of history!

It's the fault of capitalism and every corporation that exploits a resource because they care more for profit than people
coming back to this series is crazy because of how advanced AI has become; sends shivers down my spine

I admire how well-behaved the elderly are with their androids. They treat them as though they were real individuals.
They're probably just happy to have someone around. Or they're aware of how shitty humans can be so they don't really care. Or both 🤷🏼♂️
I think that really makes sense too considering how the elderly of even today talk to "alexa" or "siri" like they're real people
Because they are the least affected by this. All they require now is someone to take care of them. Old people have the money to afford androids, specially because they are so cheap. They don't have to think about employment, rent or anything. Androids are not a competition for them.
Carl is really nice and cool
Yeah it seems like the ones that are pretty kind to their androids are elderly and children. Just from the opening Markus scene, I could tell that kids saw their android like a member of the family, and loved them a lot. Same with elderly, that old man on the bench with his android said thank you and spoke politely and everything when she helped him up. However, adults don't seem to understand that it's just general decency to be respectful of these machines, even if they are just "a piece a plastic", like that jogging guy who spoke rude and threw his water bottle back at his android.

Carl has such a good relationship with Markus that he could get a robot to paint something, That doesn’t exist
Nadine Cioffa YAY
only in the context of the game though. If they were truly robots it would have no affect and it would be impossible to develop a relationship
Thomas Pankiewicz they are androids so if we had TRUE androids then markus and carl’s relationship would be possible

@@sir.stayton6269 for me, the fish was on the ground and wasn't notice by anyone, except Conner that put it back were it could live (that made connor to start feeling)
so Connor for doing that choice made it reflect the players that humans don't like different. animals are different to humanity and plants. (my thought for this question I hope it gives what it meant for my perspective and opinion)
I’m rewatching this 5 years later and this makes me remember how fucked up the world is now compared to 2019 even with covid, this is pure nostalgia for me, keep up the great work Sean and thanks for making videos
If a self driving car had an empty road ahead and Todd on the sidewalk, it would probably go for Todd
Hopefully
Air is more valuable!
I hope so
im pretty sure we had the option to shoot him. later when he goes after alice, if you found the gun while cleaning i think you could kill todd with it
Save the ant, its more important.
Todd's character honestly scares me. I feel hatred, guilt, depression and a tinge of sympathy when I see him. It's your classic abusive father.
yeah it’s creepy. treating alice like nothing but a burden and then having sobering moments where he shows affection and then right after goes back to being shitty is scarily accurate
He’s broken
My father was like this
Abusive fathers look eerily similar to abusive husbands! Maybe abusive husbands become abusive fathers? Or maybe @$$holes are just @$$holes, no matter their role. Lol! Sigh...
I live by myself now and it is a wonderful experience😊
I got so offended when he just said “water” without saying please
and then throwing the bottle back at the dude with such attitude and disrespect smh -
@@YouYou-qq8uh ikr if only he knew what happened in the future- such a lowlife

2023 and I still keep coming back to this series. It's one of the best

*how bout i do anyway?
Yep

Well hello there
2nd actually
Conner: shows up
Police force:
Ah, the negotiator.
Huzzah! A man of quality!
I can see we are men of culture as well
@@charliehubbell7513 a suprise too be sure, but a welcome one.
I shall watch this chat with great interest
I am so glad you noticed it too. Surprised jack didn’t make a star wars reference (I think he’s seen all the Star Wars movies and enjoyed them. Idk. Feel like a watched an episode of him mentioning it)
Honestly, who else here would probably say thank you out of habit? If you say thank you or please to humans, I think saying thank you to something that's human at a glance would be natural
Bruh I say thank you to siri and my home Alexa lmao... I'm nicer to robots than I am to humans... Humans suck lmao
@@AnimeKat8849 same, i already feel terrible talking rudely to ui's, imagine if they looked like humans lol
yea
i feel bad now because i'm mean to siri... i should be nicer to it
@@naan000 meh I can be mean, too. I do say "thank you" on accident though
through this whole playthrough, jack has a tendency to say "hey this game reminds me of this study/article/etc." and then at some point it comes up and he goes "hey thats what i was talking about!" and its delightful
Jack: Compliments Connor
Me being named Connor: Oh stop it you
When this came out I was a school meme for about a month ngl
@Fedis no u
Wait, the fandom is still alive?
lol
crooked kirby
You aren’t Conner you are crooked kirby
Kara: "how are you Todd?"
Todd: "oh hi thanks for checking in I'm still a piece of garbage"
Hey a reference I actually get
I laughed way harder at this than I want to admit.
the meme lives!
is it bill wurts or something like that
Angie Nail yes
Thank God you saved the fish
Zeus Flores he saved the fucking fish but he didnt save the cop bleeding out on the ground
Zeus Flores ikr
the cop isn’t important
what he doesn't know is that fish is the key to the true ending
Question: why is the fish super important? I know it’s meant to unlock something special, but I don’t know what.
In the beginning with Marcus when the pastor is yelling an says that “you are the evil that will come of this world” and then he’s the one he leads the revolution is crazy.
Jse: *professionally talking about the game*

no one else noticed ig i had to scroll so far down to see this comment
I like how Kara always smiles for when the kid’s around. I wonder if they’re programmed to have maternal instincts.
well she is a deviant
Well most likely it seems like most if the androids or at least the "female" ones are for taking care of kids which the game could be commenting in how we expect everything that looks female to take care of the kids and house work but the males to go out and do other things ....also the androids only have black and white in the males and white in the females
@@goreandhoodies3626 I think it's because she's a housekeeper android. Like Daniel, he's good with kids too. They get program to have maternal instinct because well, most of the buyers are tired parents. They need someone to take care of their children
@@sayarasa8961 or paternal? wait they don’t have genders, AAAAAA
@@goreandhoodies3626 all of the "female" droids are white? thats not true. at 20:12 the human girl's caretaker android is a "black female"

Me: *lays stuffed dog on pillow so it doesn’t murder me in my sleep*
Fire Dogo omg i do the exact same thing i always put my plushies on my bed before i got to sleep so i dont get murdered in the middle of the night
Honestly though! When I was like 7 I left my doll in my closet one night (it was one of those ones that blinks and talks, so very creepy) and in the morning it was sitting with both of the folding doors open directly in the middle of the closet staring straight at my bed. That doll is the reason I has automatonophobia and/or pediophobia . Long story short, I have basically made my plushies their own place/bed/house where they are comfortable at night and don’t wish to kill me.
@@saorise28 Yo wtf, that's creepy
lol same
