I spent part of my childhood in Hong Kong from the mid '80s to the mid '90s, and Banded Kraits were a relatively common find during night herping. I haven't been back since but they've turned up in a few HK herpers vids I've seen here on RUclips so I take that as an indication the species is still doing ok there.
Excellent video! These videos are awesome. I'm so glad that educational animal videos are beginning really widely available on RUclips in the past few years :). I hope you do well! Would you ever consider doing a video on Black Billed Magpies?
Back in the early 80's I worked at the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo. We had many specimens of several krait species. They are difficult to keep in captivity due to not feeding well. Often we had to force feed them. One of my fellow employees en-venomized himself while force feeding, he almost died but received the antivenom via a blood transfusion from Rick Hanns of the Miami Serpentarium. Rick had previously been bitten by so many different elapids over the years that his blood served as the antivenom. Very docile snake but very venomous.
I am surprised you didn't mention the hypothetical (and well inferred) relation to sea snake species of banded kraits. The coloration, body shape, blunt tail, circular pupils and paralytic venom are all signs pointing to it. Not sure where I heard this, but it was most likely WAY back when I was a kid. Old magazine subscriptions, I'm a life long biology nerd.
The pupil shape is determined by the main time the snake is active, for example nocturnal snakes have round pupils. This allows them to capture as much light as possible. Snakes that are active during the day where light is abundant have thin pupils.

Thanks so much! We're so glad we have a space to produce content like this to teach people more about the animals around our world. So glad you're enjoying it! And yeah that's a great suggestion, thank you!

Wow dude, you know what a coke bottle is for? Back in the day when bot flies were a parasite in cattle you could easily see the growing larvae under a cows skin. Place the coke bottle opened end on the site and hammer down with the palm of your hand. The larvae would pop up into the bottle. Apply a little Sulphur powder and the cow was good to go. Now days, well eradicated in these parts.
@@crotalusatrox7931 That's a. Creative way to get rid of them (But in a good way. Certainly seems quicker than pulling the buggers out. Like how I saw in a couple of Animal Planet shows)
The Banded Krait is a very beautiful snake. It's coloration is an advertisement to warn predators and people that it's venomous. It's venom contains neurotoxins and hemotoxins. It's venom is lethal!
I just came here after I saw it on the way to bathroom crawling on the floor... It was just black and yellow , it didn't look aggressive at first but seeing me panick it moved .. I searched the name on Google , then here ..not sure if it was it. Sadly , we had to kill that as there's no one to carry it out
What did you learn while watching this video? Had you ever heard of a banded krait before?
I discovered the ultimate anarcho-capitalist mascot lol.
This is a new species to me. Thank you for teaching me something new

Do one for the spider tail viper. That is one fascinating snake. Newly discovered too
Feels like this snake is about to tell me that taxation is theft...

@@AnimalFactFiles Ok Nice!! I'm excited to see it then
Facts about the Deinopidae spider genus?
Just a heads up, they look creepy.
Good info! Can you guys do a vid on skeleton shrimp?
Can you do a video on parasitic flies such as those of the bot variety?

Elapids generally have round pupils!
Could you do one on sloths? I've always wondered why they move so slow🤔
Bro you gotta to a collaboration with casual geographic (Hood Nature)
Can you do a video on Clippers?
I’m not sure if you’ve done them yet but you should do Harvestmen! (Opiliones order of Arachnids!)
Ignore this I found it! Here’s the link if anyone else wants it

Beautiful
Pupil shape actually is an indication as to whether a snake is venomous or not but only in North America
80 years?!?!!
What's the evolutionary tree of Penguins?
Happy snake!
Did you say eight decades?
Is it related to Banded sea kraits?
They're both elapids but different genera
I would love a video on Maned Wolves. :)

Pretty sure Reticulated pythons have cat like eyes. Not venomous
