Thank you. I'm really struggling with this at the moment. I took 2 great falls when attempting this and I really hurt myself, and now very apprehensive trying to succefully execute it!
Tried doing this today and although I was close, I wasn't consistent. And after watching this, I think my main issue are my arms. 🤣 They definitely weren't in the right positions. So I'll be trying this next week when I go again, and hopefully I'll manage to do it consistently!
Your videos are always the best, you explain everything in detail clearly and very nice points to make about common mistakes and where the weight should be. Thank you sooo much.
Thanks this is really helpful! I fell and broke my elbow trying to learn this. Think curving instead of turning was exactly what i did wrong. I ended up doing something like an ice hockey stop.
This was really useful, thank you. My skating teachers told us to turn on the toepick when going forwards and I keep tripping over them. I am going to try this instead next time I'm at my lesson. Thanks :)
I can do this at a slow to semi-moderate speed. But, what is the trick to doing this while going a little fast in speed? I see people skate down the rink then turn to backwards and it impresses me. How do they not spin around while turning going fast?
The more you practice this move, the more comfortable you will get with it. It's about learning how to use your body to not only initiate the rotation but then control it once you've completed the turn! Doing this turn with speed requires control of the arms, hips and also the edges you're skating on. But with practice makes perfect!
this might be a stupid question but on which part of the blade should i turn? also when trying to do a one foot 3 turn it always feels like my edge is too deep into the ice to actually smoothly turn.....
Not a stupid question at all! If you're turning from forward to backward then the weight should be on the ball of the foot. If you're turning from backward to forward, then the weight should go towards the back of the blade. If you feel that you cannot turn smoothly as your edge is too deep into the ice, it's more likely that the issue is your weight is too much toward the middle/back of the blade as you're trying to turn to backward. As you go to turn your 3 turn, try to concentrate on moving your weight on the blade to the ball of your foot. This can be done when skating on very strong deep edges and still produce clean effortless turns. Hope this helps.
Iam doing this move in my lesson but every time i turn i cant keep my feet together and I cant stay in a straight line do u have any tips on this move?
It sounds like you are trying to use a curve to help you turn. The move is initiated by using the hips. You can try performing the move on the floor where you're not able to use a curve or edges and it might help you with the feeling of using arms and hips
WHERE IS THE DOWN UP DOWN???? the thing I am repeatedly told??? turn into circle hips shoulders aligned, blah blah blah. i tried your way and was told NO NO NO. Im gonn quit it aint worth it

Hopefully 3 years later you're turning on your rocker now and not the toe picks... Or maybe you have fallen enough times to give up skating :(
Nice explanation!! Really have no idea of this while practicing. Will try!!
Glad to hear you found the video helpful 🙂
Your tutorials are so helpful🥺
Oh wow, this was really well explained. Thank you.
You're welcome, glad you found it easy to understand!

They are probably using a different technique at speed.

@@IceCoachOnline thank you so much !!! this is exactly the information i've been looking for and can't wait to try it out on the ice!
@@IceCoachOnline This is brilliant! Than you.
where are you placing your weight in the skates? the balls of your feet or the heels? i'm confused
My teacher does not like me so he always criticizes and this move is just so hard for me, thank you for the help and I'll try with this
We're sorry to hear your coach criticises you a lot, but happy to hear the video helped you out! Let us know if it helped you improve
My coach tought me this with the arms going in the same direction as the turn, not the opposite. :O
my lessons have us do it on a circle. Is that not right?
