  • Amy Carlson spoke at length about her exit from Blue Bloods for the first time on Tuesday and criticized the way her character’s departure was handled. Speaking with Deadline, the actress, who starred as Linda Reagan on the CBS procedural for its first seven seasons, confirmed that it was her decision to leave the show but added that she was not invited to return for the season 8 premiere to effectively wrap up Linda’s story. In the episode, it’s revealed that the character died in a helicopter crash off-screen; season 8 has since followed her husband, Danny (Donnie Wahlberg), as he grieves and tries to move on.

Amy Carlson had such a pivotal role in humanising Donnie Wahlberg's intensity in the role of Danny. She offered an objective view into the almost obsessive fixation on being a cop in the Reagan family. She deserved a better 'send-off'. Yet if you look at most of Danny's and Jamie's partners, they all just 'disappeared'. I think the writers of "Blue Bloods' are brilliant. They just need to learn how to deal with the subject of grief, surely a big aspect of a cop's life. As for Amy, I remember her from 'Third Watch' and also loved her work on 'Blue Bloods'. I hope she moves to the big screen as she is an amazing talent.

They didn't even ask her to come back so why wouldn't she leave? If they were interested in her staying they would have done everything they could have to keep her. She's a awesome actress that wasn't being utilized in the last 2 seasons. I am so disappointed that they didn't give her a better storyline and that they didn't give us, the fans, a chance to say good-bye to her character. They could have sent such a beloved character away much better than they did.

Cheap shot to shock loyal fan base, like "see ya, hardly knew ya ..."
And yeah, they under utilized her character, relegated to fill a space at the family dinner table, tidbits of dialogue, and meaningful looks at hubby, kids--can't be a happy situation for an actor in a hit ensemble tv show.

For the most part, this was very surprising by the writers. Very surprising! They turned a good CONSISTENT show to pretty much a disappointment. I was very disappointed the way her character was handled. Nobody was grieving but Danny, his boys Jack and Sean were like ok, and moved on. Nobody else in the family grieved, not Frank, Pops, Erin, Nikki, or Jamie. That REALLY just flat out SHOCKED ME! I flat out hate the new mayor too.

In the History of TV when something like this happens there is usually a lot more that went on behind the scenes. The people that run a show hardly ever really say a lot about the situation because it solves nothing and just makes fans mad. The only thing we usually hear is what the Actor says....and that turns in to a "he said she said" among cast and crew if they say anything at all. In the past situations like this have mostly boiled down to ..wanting more money more screen time or the Actor did not like the direction their character was going on the show. In the end ...its over and so we move on.😥

I loved Amy as Linda and am not happy she is out. Failure to communicate, network. The show also stalled for me around season 5. I did not care for Great Grandpa. I was tired of Erin trying to convince someone to testify when they know and we know they will be killed for doing so. There’s no “I love you so much” or hugs with family. Did not like Tom having to argue with everyone in every episode. Linda was the difference in episodes.

We are busy on Friday nights and can not see the new Blue Bloods shows as they come on but we watch the reruns on ion every Wednesday and we enjoy spending the whole evening with the Reagans then. But, the reruns are not in order, and I kept saying to my husband: "WHERE IS LINDA, they never show Linda any more" Then one night a show came on with Danny saying, "I just can't do it without my wife - etc." Then we also noticed Linda wasn't at the dinner table any more, I was hoping maybe she had gone to stay with her parents for a while or something like that, so I asked Google where is Linda in Blue Bloods, and they wasn't even really sure, but when I asked again later, it replied possibly in a helicopter wreck she got killed. Well, I was SOOO disappointed she was killed and that they had her die in such a awful way, I was really disappointed the show didn't make it in better taste, but even now, I can't get over how she has just been dropped, they hardly ever even mention her, and her 2 sons, are as normal as ever, you would never know their mom was just killed in a awful accident and they seem to be just fine. So, Blue Bloods is a good show, but they have really screwed up on this part, it was very poor taste and disrespectful to Linda, and to us viewers. Then also, on the other hand, I wish Linda had not quit, but she was signed for 7 years, I wish she would have signed again, but they probably have a hard time signing for 7 years, you never know how your life will go for 7 years, they should have them sign for every year and then when they don't want to go another year, let them play out a part in how or why they go, that way it won't be so sudden and disappointing to us viewers. Linda was one of my favorites in the show, I always wished they showed more of her, it was very sad to see her go, especially in a horrifying way, it left me and I bet many others very upset and sad. AND, since she had to die, there is NO WAY she can come back if wanted. So, Blue Bloods, please be more considerate on how your cast has to leave the program and don't leave us hanging like they did with Linda :(

Actually the way they killed her off would be an interesting way to bring her back since it didn't actuall show her dying and Danny identifying her body, I think that actress was thinking that she should get a little more screen time which she hoped would equal more money time that they may not have been able to pay her for. But they've given her a window to come back in multiple ways

I see a lot of fans are disappointed by the way a death of a major character was handled but I think the way it was handled was actually brilliant. The suddenness, finality, and the way the information was revealed really forced the audience to deal with it much like we have to deal with a real death of someone close when it occurs, especially if it is unexpected. This is a bold move for a weekly drama and shows that the producers, writers, and cast have enough confidence in their audience to process this and maybe actually come to a better understanding of how death affects so many people. It was Amy Carlson's decision to leave but it is ingratitude to complain how the show handles the situation that they were given by her departure.

One of the main reason that I loved Blood Blues was the respect and love that they showed each other "as a family". Tremendous roll model for families in our cultural today when there really isn't any good examples anywhere else. Spiritual, church going, trying to do what is right in whatever situation they found themselves in, plus, always eating together every Sunday and just visiting. I felt very cheated and very betrayed by how they handled Linda's demise. That was not the way their family has been built up by the writers and sold to us. I felt they were very hypocritical. I can actually say that it put a very bad taste in my mouth, and really no longer give it the time I used too. I have moved on to enjoy Hawaii Five O and possible MacGyver over BB's. Sorry, but what else would they do to us if they don't even care to take the time to it what it would take for their loyal fans to get through the grieving process. They showed me that they really didn't care.
