Thankya man ! This is something I've been going through with my kids. I hate taking away a kids natural stance or where they want to start,but most kids I get don't know how to properly load and get into launch position,so I explain to them in order to learn to achieve those two things it's easier for them to start in a stance that's going to make it easier for them to loaf properly and get to launch.than once they get more comfortable and know what they are doing, the stance can change more to their comfort as long as they are still loading and hitting launch position correctly.
Great stuff -- as usual. It is critical for hitters to be consistent in their stance and swing -- because I get parents asking what is my son doing right or wrong and normally the response is "which stance and which swing - because he has 2 or three of each!
The number one thing I see in young softball players is closing their front hip and pointing their front foot back toward the plate. They do this in an attempt to twist back to coil, but when they swing, their front hip prevents the back hip from uncoiling properly. There is definitely a list of "don'ts" in the stance.
