I was manager and lived in one of the guest homes on a 13 acre estate on the beach front in Malibu. Bruce Dern was a neighbor. Bruce was a runner and ran by daily it seemed. I never got to speak to him. 20 years or so later he was one of the guests at the Festival of the Old West in Scottsdale, AZ. I waited till the end of the show and walked up to his table where he had been signing autographs. He remembered me and we talked for 15-20 minutes. Very friendly guy and wrote a lengthy inscription and signed an 8x10 from The Cowboys. A unique guy, very talented and convincing character actor.
"I hate a liar" we need more like you Duke!
This is and will always be my favorite John Wayne film. My Dad and I loved to hate one of the all time greatest performers: Bruce Dern. We always knew he would get his in the end and we enjoyed every second of it! Rest in Peace, my Beloved Father, until we meet again ❤️ 2-2-22 ➕
Maybe the best John Wayne movie ever.
Enjoyed seeing Dern in "Support Your Local Sheriff." He played a dumb killer, kept in jail by a chalked line on the floor, because the jail bars hadn't arrived yet.
He was absolutely brilliant in that role!
@@odysseusrex5908 As was Walter Brennan as his bumbling father
@@davidcobble2050 Agreed!
Always liked that Bruce Dern. Heck of an actor, and that goes for Laura too, no?
A truly superb film.
Duke didn't die in too many of his movies. It ALWAYS ticked me off when he did. This one's no different.
I didn't enjoy seeing him die either. But where I thought the movie was ruined after Duke gave Dern the most perfect one-two punch. Only to have the best ass whipping of any movie in history, shot to hell. After gets ambushed with the pistol over the head. Had that not happened that fight would have been better than most Rocky movies.. . .. I just never bought the idea of "an old man half knocked out could still fight" . . . . I wanted to see a real John Wayne ass stomping !
Bruce Dern got death threats in real life for his role in the Cowboys 🤠
@@paulkica4129 dern played a real scumbucket in that one. But people need too realize that it's only a movie.
Dern is a magnificent actor..
"Dern, you're going to be hated the world over for this roll". (Wayne to Dern on set). Whenever you saw dern show up on screen as a bad guy.....you knew he was going to do something nasty and sneeky. Dern had an instinct for playing that kind of character.....even though he was born and raised in opulence, butlers, chauffeurs, maids, nannies, Polo, etc.
I love the whole movie and John Wayne. I hated seeing John Wayne die in it. But loved how the boys got even. Bruce Dern with foot caught on horse and hanging upside down. The boys cut a rope, fir a gun, and the horses dragged him on the ground with all the rocks. His character deserved it.
Have ever watched the War Wagon? Bruce's character get shot in that one by John Wayne and Kirk Douglas characters in a gunfight.
@@RobertJones-ux6nc Seen and own all his movies
@@trwent Typo and I corrected it. Should read Got even.
John Wayne is the king of all moral standards
Shouldn't have lied. Bruce Dern played convincingly a very evil bad guy!
It wouldn't have made any difference. He could have been completely honest and up front with Mr. Anderson. But Wil Anderson was a man of his word, and he had already given his word to the boys that he hired on.
Bruce Dern is the most convincing of all cinematic creeps.
Even as a kid I would look forward to seeing him as a bad guy in westerns.
@@porflepopnecker4376 ,
He played his roles to the tee. He had to be convincing to fill the boots of the only actor to murder John Wayne's character. A bad hombre.
Don’t you mean ciaran hinds
@@nicolamcguinness8689 ,
I did not mean Hinds. But, in what is left of the free world, we are entitled to different opinions.
Bruce Dern played the only character to murder a character played by John Wayne.
@Cleo Fierro ,
Who, where and when?
Bruce and Tony Musante in 'the Incident' 1967 are my creepiest,, also scorpio dirty harry.
That was actually a young Martin Sheen terrorizing subway riders alongside Tony Musante in "The Incident".
Great movie!
The duke said it right what i need all get
That harmonica is menacing.
A Great, Great, clip n lesson 👌👌 in how too deal with People in general.
I'm not perfect, no one is, and there are very few things you can call Perfect!! My point is if you have the occasion too meet someone pryer to having business dealings, with them? Met that or those person's and clear the atmosphere, even if it was reflective, in the past, or very minor too your dealings. If one does such Lying is less necessary.
You know because i was a kid when this movie was in the theaters i hated Bruce Dern for a long time. He was an incredible actor
Dern's Hat, let's you know he was gonna be a prick !
I don't think that's the last they'll see of Mr. Asa Watts.
That loathsome musical cue for someone you'd not turn your back on.......
I don't normally talk to vermin
A conservative used to be a John Wayne conservative truth honesty and integrity. Where a mans word was his bond. Not like today where you have to follow a lie and bow down to the liar in chief
You much be talking about Biden and his idiots
That sounded like he said paul bear from wwe when he was Kane's dad and undertakers manger
Love to hate Bruce Dern ! Great actor ! The first time i saw him was in a movie with Betty Davis ! I was just a kid , Hush , Hush , Sweet Charlotte ! A scene where he got his hand chopped off , scared the shit outta me !
