The grey version is a maintenance car used by the FS, whereas the brown one is just a standard box car. Both examples were produce over several years, and are available with many different running numbers both in era III, and era IV. Cheers!
Roco is allergic to using glue on the production line - It introduces a new level of Jeopardy when building models as thousands of glue smears and blooms in reviews will attest. It is nice when you can easily dis-assemble a model for servicing. but in this case it just makes the roof easier to paint. Usually the fit is good. maybe the tools are now a bit worn. I suspect the brown wagon is the later model from what they now call their Start range the box is definitely newer.
Typical Italian gabled roof wagon, some were sold to the Reichsbahn to replace damaged stock after WII, several still exist today as maintenance vehicles or even still as extra wagons on occasions where additional wagons are needed.
