Athearn Vs Bachmann American GP-40 HO Scale showdown | Model Railway Review
What an absolute gem!
Of all the Terriers, it was Hornby's nicest of that batch. It is one of the most beautiful models in my collection. I remember lots of people saying that this is what Stepney should have been, because the quality was so much higher. It's a nice throwback to when Hornby's Collector Club was worth joining. As this was not only a little cheaper than the rest of the Terriers, but also included the Collector Club discount. Long gone have those days ever since Mike Ashley got involved. There's literally no incentive to pay the £30 a year anymore. Not for exclusive models, club shunters, discounts, or boosts to the Hobby Rewards scheme. Same with GAME and their membership rewards scheme.
I've bought several of these and repainted/renumbered them. Fantastic runners and running in barely made a difference to them.
They are brilliant models. I own DS680 Waddon in its BR departmental livery
The row of shops is one of the best builds I have ever seen and at a price to die for. No locomotive in a bottle for me thank you. Nice update, Jersey Bill
I wish the manufacturing would have stayed in Italy, but this is the reality of the hobby now days. What will the future bring? Jersey Bill
Seeing some of the stuff thats made in Germany like from Marklin these days has made me think that maybe manufacturing in the EU is much better…
Poland? Off to Wolstyn? I lived in Poznan for some years and remember seeing the regular steam-hauled service quite often as it passed by a suburb I lived in. Polish narrow guage was of more intersted to me, and Poznan has the Cegielski steel works on the Number 9 Tram with a small NG loco plinthed outside.
Nice guess but not there. Been to Poznan in the past. Lovely city :) Took the train from there to Berlin, that was fun!
@@ModelRailwayNewsReviews Well, there are plenty of narrow gauge railways too. I love Polish NG. I hope you have a great time and don't forget to sample the vodka. Ooh, and Stock brandy (from Italy) is good too.
Good to see the KR Leaders at the NEC today loaned to several layouts. Would have been even nicer if any of them actually sat straight or ran. The usual mess but hey, they’re never wrong.
Might be too late by the time you come back from Poland but have you seen the Hornby Black Friday sale including the BL steampunk rubbish?
Gosh No I didnt see that. How much are they going for these days?
How about bigger scales such as 32mm and 45mm gauge? Accucraft have announced they are doing a live-steam Corris / Talyllyn Falcon locomotive. 👍
Only problem with the Accurascale 31 is the door handles are in the open position, Check actual photo's of 31s The bachmanns version is correct.
thanks for the review. Caroline.
It amazes me that Hornby paid so much for the old Lima group companies ( Lima, Rivarossi, Jouef, Electrotren and Arnold) Then they made zero effort to promote them in the UK - Passing them first to an external distributor for several years. Since Brexit most of it is directly delivered to Europe and a small quantity is released to UK dealers with another stock held for Hornby's direct sales system. The Jouef 140C is a masterpiece of what Hornby could do if they engineer first then price second - All metal loco and tender, a decent motor and highly detailed -unfortunately (or inevitably) the price is in line with similar European makes.
Electrotren of Spain was never part of Lima. Hornby bought it as a going concern well before they acquired the bankrupt Lima Group.
@@andrewgrave I assumed it had merged with Lima - Electrotren is niche, even for me but I suppose the Spanish home market must account for most of what it makes. I guess Hornby wanted to grow into Europe but made no real bridge between the 2 arms of the company.
If you come across any freight wagons or carriages made by Exact-Trains NS I would suggest a comparison with this wagon.
Pretty good price for a European-prototype wagon. I've got a recent Rivarossi E646 electric loco and it's a stunning model. I can't remember the exact price but I seem to remember it being in line with Hornby UK OO scale electrics.
Those are the ones used in the Mini Wunderland!
Have you tried to open it? I don't know how but I need to solder a wire.
Just a reminder… Marklin wagons have an option from the model shop to exchange wheel sets foc from AC to DC operation.
Can You add an icon to show if the model has a metal body ??? Thanks in advance. Really appreciate the info You provide :)))
Thats a good idea :) Its not always apparent though but its safe to say Marklin and Trix HO locomotives will all be metal now but other manufacturers not so clear. I’ll look into it. Thanks for the suggestion! 👍🏼
I enjoyed the article but, it would be better if you could 'time line' it so that people who are not interested in items can easily find a section they do like.
Like chapters? I think RUclips (eventually) automatically adds them but I can add them in manully too - thanka for the suggestion I’ll add them in my next one 👍🏼
Great review but, for clarity, Märklin is not 3 rail; it operates on stud contact AC. Just one other comment epoch 3 and 4 German models are Deutsches Bundesbahn not Deutsche Bahn. The latter came later after reunification.
Nice video as always. One point though re German loco numbers. There's no need to quote the dash and the following number, as it is only a computer check digit.
Ah, I never knew that and always have done - learn something new every day :) Thanks for the info 👍
No Marklin it is just too expensive, USA outline on HO scale is outstanding value with many more features.
You are right, Märklin is really expensive, but you get what you pay for. Plastic shells made in China or die cast shells made in Germany. Once you have visited their factory you know why they are so expensive.
I like how Marklin/Trix models have so many features but they cost a bloody fortune
That’s because the quality is way superior to anything manufactured for the UK market. Plus the prices are more competitive if bought from German outlets.
Typical Italian gabled roof wagon, some were sold to the Reichsbahn to replace damaged stock after WII, several still exist today as maintenance vehicles or even still as extra wagons on occasions where additional wagons are needed.
Carri chiusi
Locomotion Motion I thinks noooo more duplicate Accurascale UK as keep making the same train. Been nice if we got a new steam train never done before like want Rapido Tdo most of the time. And Bachmann with T3. As all ready got a model from Hornby plus EFE rail. Miss on great change to do this livery we got it in N gauge would sell well in OO scale. Only thinks want is good that we are getting this livery. ( ACC3101 Austerity - LNER - HE3151 - 8008,ACC3106 Austerity - NCB South Wales - HE3810 - Glendower).
I always felt that late 80s and 90s models from Roco were at the top of the game. I own several of them, they still run smoothly and well.
There’s only two ways to review a model like this: The Great Western way or the wrong way
So did Hornby sell Oxford Diecast and Oxford Rail? Or did they keep Oxford Rail?
I believe it was both concerns, but it's not totally clear in the info I was using if Ox-Rail also was included in the sale
Hey Locomotion Motion. Just saying that recently we got news about the release of new models of CFR Ava 200 coaches from AF models and HGD hobby center, as well as a new tooled LEMA electric locomotive coming in 3 liveries: DB cargo romania, West trans rail and Green cargo. It would be nice if you would cover these!
It’s not locomotion motion. That was his previous life before Sam threatened to sue his ass.
Yeah but its kinda a secondary channel to him since he still posts on his main channel.
@@Davidstrains2056 Sure, happy to do so - can you point me in the direction of some websites?
Fun fact: the circular ports above the headlights are its horns. When it horn, those ports open up slightly.
Heh, thats pretty cool 👍🏼
4:14: The two RE421 arent SBB locos, but private machines: Widmer Rails Services, and it is highly likely that they will be used permanently or often in double traction.
From the price of the Re 421 both are powered (as are most of the double packs of the Re 420 classes). One of the NightJet loco options has power transfer couplings for the future new NightJet train. Beware some PIKO coaches they are shorter and not to scale caused by design for R1 curves.
I don't understand why HO stuff is so expensive in comparison to the OO gauge stuff. I figured out though its cheaper to save up for what you want, fly to Poland go visit a few model shops and take it back to the UK in your luggage and save about £80 per loco...
👍🏼that sounds like a good plan! My favourite model shop is in Berlin… and I live in Scotland. Cheap Ryanair flights 😎✈️
The Swiss Re421 are often worked in pairs with multi-traction being common on the gradients - Some workings use 4 locos - I believe that both locos are motorised and can be used paired or individually. At least Roco have not cheaped out with an empty loco
The limit for powered axles on the Gotthard pass was 20 axles, so 2x Re 4/4 + 2 x Re 6/6 (2 X Re 10/10) or 5 x Re 4/4 (very rare). (to avoid voltage drop on climbs)
@@briancooper562 Thank you -I did not know that - The Re10/10 was a common set - Roco have done a few now
No such thing as a hinda integra for one...ya acura and honda....thats an acura rsx...so dumb
Check the interior of this model. The steering wheel is on the right. That makes this a JDM Honda Integra Type-R DC5. If it was an Accura RSX then the steering wheel would be on the left. So dumb
The grey version is a maintenance car used by the FS, whereas the brown one is just a standard box car. Both examples were produce over several years, and are available with many different running numbers both in era III, and era IV. Cheers!
Thankyou for the reviews. There was nothing there of interest to me at the moment. Please can you 'Time Line?' your reviews, this makes it easier to skip items of no interest to me.
Do you mean have a date stamp on the icon, description or as part of the dialogue?
Roco is allergic to using glue on the production line - It introduces a new level of Jeopardy when building models as thousands of glue smears and blooms in reviews will attest. It is nice when you can easily dis-assemble a model for servicing. but in this case it just makes the roof easier to paint. Usually the fit is good. maybe the tools are now a bit worn. I suspect the brown wagon is the later model from what they now call their Start range the box is definitely newer.
Budget stock is always useful as parked stock in sidings, very long unit trains or as a basis for weathering to forgotten wagons.
Interesting and useful 👍 I have the loco, minus the wagon, bought in Calais in the late 60s on my family's first every venture abroad, a day trip by ferry from Folkestone. It was hardly ever run, but did so very well about 5 years back when i found it during a sorting-out session. I'll have to dig it out again and see if its still a goer 😊
hi, it's not a turbotrain, it's a RGP1. turbotrain is RTG made by jouef and EPM in hoscale 😉
Thanks for letting me know :)
Roco models: at the risk of appearing stupid, what is the difference between DCC and AC, as in the UK we only have DC and DCC?
AC isn't so common in the UK but it was a lot more common in Europe, especially Germany, in the past. Many Marklin early models ran on AC only (basically the same as what comes out of the wall socket). It's continued to soldier on with various manufacturers in Europe. I dont know of any manufacturer who makes AC British outline models now.
Thanks for being one of the few unbiased people covering the various releases in the hobby. There is so much Hornby and TT:120 bashing going on, it’s just boring and doesn’t represent the hobby at all. Wow Arnold are masters at the small scales, beautiful models. I really hope we see some lateral integration of TT:120 across the Hornby brands and Margate drawing on the skills of the those brands. This really could have the potential to unite the hobby in once scale and produce some amazing models for us to enjoy 👍
🤔 could do with some slick new alloys and drop in some coilovers to lower it a bit. New big exhaust and a KN filter too 😂 A change from your usual content mate! Great laugh.
The Vossloh is also available in HO in Spanish, French, Italian and other European company colours from Hornby international companies.
Cool. Which is your fav colour scheme out of those?
@@ModelRailwayNewsReviews RailAdventure but I have ROCO BLS and SBB similar but a different Vossloh class and not quiet as detailed as the Rivarossi
Nice detail, but an absolute lemon that has bits that fall off when it's touched. The eccentric crank broke on one side in minutes, so it's never run as it can't be fixed. Later , the valves came off, brake rigging fell off. Never had this with any other model.
Vossloh is pronounced Foss-lo
Thank you :)
