Finally!!! 27 years old and this is the first technique that hasn’t made me rage quit and wanna cut my hair short!! This is life goal level to me so thank you for this amazing trick!!!
I wanted to let you know I have been wanting to learn how to french braid my hair myself forever! And I will tell you by watching this I was really confused, but after practicing 20 times over and over I finally got your trick down. Over the past few days I've been wearing my hair braided and each time I retry it looks so much better. I can french braid my own hair!!! Thank you so much for this trick! It really works!
Reylynn_Jin yes when I first started I couldn't understand and it was pissing me off but if you keep trying you will get it down. I can do it this way or a dutch braid that she has a tutorial for its easy now
I am a 40 year old woman who has never been able to french braid. This method was the first time I was able to actually able to finish my long hair and not get mixed up. Thank you!
I'm pretty sure your mother is a genius. This is the first video Ive seen that shows an easy way to hold your hair in order to do a French braid. I'm gonna attempt it for the first time (ever. I've never trait a French before because I never found a clear way on how to hold it) then get back an inform on how well it worked for me.
I have been trying to french braid my own hair for YEARS and that is not an exaggeration. This is the ONLY video that helped me. I did a really loose french braid on my first try (my hair is super curly and coarse) but my second try was darn near perfect. THANK YOU for sharing this easy tip!
Like so many others commenting on here, am 28 years old and have never EVER been able to do a French braid no matter how hard I tried. THIS! THIS has made such a huge difference! Thank you much! God bless you.
after 4 tries and way too much swearing and cursing, i actually got it done! it looks quite messy but the technique really helps. I kept saying "up the ladder" while going through it. Thanks so much for this video!
Same my arms get tired and I end up just doing French twists instead. I actually don't even know if that's what it's called but I mean when you twist two strands of hair instead of three and it's much easier
Keep practicing. Not only will you get faster and better but you'll bulk up muscles that have gotten lazy and gone unused. I'm in the same boat, but I know I'm weak and I'm excited to see how fast my arms bounce back.
This is the first time I was able to successfully french braid my hair. Albeit not well or pretty but it's a braid! Now I just have to practice for a million hours to get it perfect.
This is absolutely brilliant. This is the "someone somewhere has to have figured out a simple way to do this" tutorial that I'd always hoped to find with every previous combination of keywords I've ever searched with. This is life-changing 😆 Thank you so much to you and your mom for bringing this to us! 💚🙏
At first I couldn't figure it out, but a friend helped me! If you take the pointer finger of your free hand, and slide it down the middle finger of the hand holding the hair, you'll get the middle section to the bottom and the top section to the middle. Then you can move the bottom section to the top of the ladder (between your ring and middle finger), you'll get the whole method down rather quickly.
I'm 46. I have been trying to learn how to french braid my hair for LITERALLY my whole life but gave up because I just couldn't get it. During this quarantine, I find myself on RUclips looking at lots of things and came across this video. I decided to give it another try. I started trying this morning and would have to stop and re-watch the video. I did this probably 4 or 5 times and decided to stop and take a break. I went back at it this evening and got it on the first try. Now, mind you, it isn't perfect but you can tell it's a french braid. A few more times practicing and I'm confident I'll have this down pat! Thank you sooooo much for this video! Finally, after all these years!
My mom used to make me hold hair when I was a kid and she was french braiding my hair, lol. I hated it so much cause my weak little arm would get tired!
Genius! Went out with my hair in a french braid tonight for the first time ever! Chalk me up as another one who has been trying to figure out how to french braid my own hair for decades to no avail. Woohoo!
I just spent an hour with this video and my bathroom mirror and finally got my first French braid by myself! I’m nearly 20 and I’ve never been able to learn but this method actually shows the hand placement I was struggling with!! What a life saver! I think with some practice I could get really good and speedy braids, I’m so excited!
I've been following and repeating this video for a week now and fiiiiiinally got it! It's all about muscle memory for me, and my shoulders and arms ache so much haha, Thanks!
Thank you so much. I am 39 years old and always wanted to be able to braid my hair like this but always given up. Your video was so easy to follow and after only 3 attempts I can now do a great French braid - your mother is a genius! Thank you! :)
I tried making a French braid for a year and I watched a lot of videos on RUclips and it didn't work but when I watched this video I knew how to make a French braid💗💗😍😍
Oh my gosh!!!! I've been trying and failing at French braiding my hair for 24 years!!!!! You made this so simple! Thank you to your mom for showing you and to you for sharing with us! So simple!!!
I’m screaming right now because I just got a perfect French braid when I’ve been trying to do it for YEARS!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO🥰🥰🥰🥰
I am so good at doing other people's hair and it made me sad that I couldn't do mine. I never ever ever thought I'd be able to French braid my hair but this video helped and I am so good at it now. Thank you so so much!😁
26 years I've been on this earth, 10 of which i have spent countless on hours on how to french braid, watching videos getting frustrated and giving up but THIS video is the ONLY video I was able to learn how to do it. THANK YOU SO SO MUCH ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! !
Hands down, the only video I actually understand and feel like i can follow regarding french braids! I know it has been two years but thanks for the video ❤️ I wish youtube could recommend this to me sooner 😭 but better late than never. ❤️
Wow wow ! I have been trying to figure out how to French braid my hair for so so long and this video helped me finally accomplish it for the first time!! So excited! Thank you for sharing your moms trick! (:
i have just learnt to french AND dutch braid with your videos . . . your method is really the only one that works for me THANK YOU ❤️ (p.s. i'm a 28 year old male with long hair)
At first I was like 'Meh whatever, I'm so stupid I probably can't even understand this' but then I was like 'Holy shit. That is so simple, why didn't I watch this video earlier because that would've saved me a lot of time and frustration'. No kidding, I spent days and days trying to do a french braid and none of the videos I saw were as easy to understand as this.
I am 26 years old....and this has been the only video I could comprehend how to hold the hair. I did a French braid for the first time in my life thanks to this video. Thank you so much!
I might actually get french braids now. I love "up the ladder" analogy. Most videos say "place a hair piece into your fingers..." and I'm squinting at the video like "which piece? which fingers?!" I'll try your method and let ya know how it turns out.
I’ve tried doing my own French braid for years and never been able to. Watching this videos admittedly a few times has finally made it possible you don’t realise how happy I am thank you so much for sharing
I grew up with a single dad and he only knew a ponytail and when I was 8 I knew how to braid my hair from the Nickelodeon channel and now it’s the night before the first day of 7th grade and I’m learning french braid!
This was the best french braid video ever! Definitely, recommend changing the title to let other viewers know this is video shows the hand technique of french braiding. Love the ladder technique. Thank you for making this video!!
You just changed my life! Bless you and your mother. I've always been good at Dutch braiding but could never figure my hands out for french braiding. Thank you thank you thank you!
After many many videos, tutorials, painful arms, knotted hair, and buying many useless hair tools that never worked, I never managed a single complete french braid in my hair. I find your video a few days ago... and I've french-braided my hair everyday since 💖 Thank you so much for sharing your technique! The more I'm doing it the neater and faster I'm becoming at the french braid 🤩 your mom is amazing
this was so so so helpful!!! i've been trying to french braid for so long and could never figure out where to put my hands and this finally worked!!! thank you!
I HAVE JUST BRAIDED MY HAIR FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 20+ YRS OF MA LIFE THANKS TO YOU!!!!!!!!!! SERIOUSLY IT DIDN'T EVEN LOOK HALF AS BAD AS I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE!!!!! VERY VERY USEFUL THANK YOU!!!!!
this is literally the best hair tutorial I've ever seen simply because of how accessible this has suddenly made self-braiding feel. THANK YOU for sharing!!!!
Bless your soul. 25 years old and lots of angry crying later, I finally found workable technique to french braid my hair, something I’ve wanted to do for years. My braid looks like pure trash but I finally understand the technique and will spend all weekend working on this. Thank youuuuu!
OH MY GOSH! I am almost 40 years old and have never been able to french braid my own hair, after watching your video a few times, I FINALLY did it. Yayyyy, I am so excited. Thank you so much for posting this video. I love the "up the ladder" trick, it really helped me.
This needs to go viral!!! That is absolutely amazing at how easy that looks.. will definitely be remembering this for when my hair gets long enough!!! Thank you so much for this!! It looks perfect!!
I've always been terrible at doing these, but this is my first time successfully braiding my hair :D It's little bit loose but looking pretty good nonetheless. I'll give it another try once my hands stop shaking XD Your mom's method is amazing!
I am 50 years old and I finally FINALLY learned how to braid my own hair with this technique!! It took me several days (had to rest because my scalp got sore) and it was messy at first, but my fingers finally learned where the divisions of hair were and I got the hang of it. It is like learning to knit with your hands behind your head! But this technique was the only one i could make sense out of. Thanks!
I have no problem with the English or Rope braid. Now I need to perfect this, the French braid. You have simplified the technique, so thanks to both you and your mum.
IT FINALLY MAKES SENSE NOW!!! I knew what to do but not HOW to do it - I had no idea the finger positions mattered that much!!! I'm 26 and never had anyone to teach me - this changes everything!!!
"I'm not saying it's your fault.... buuuuut under your instruction my brush did break" 😂 lol. My hairs too frizzy for this too, it's too difficult for me to diffuse the sections of hair to get a neat and tidy braid... but this method actually works great if I flatiron my hair first, it's a really good technique.. if you have smooth hair lol
Thank you so much! I have been trying to learn how to french braid my hair for ages and I could never figure out how to do it. But with the help of your video, it only took me two tries before I finally managed to do it! Thank you!!
I just wanted to thank you because I just kept repeating the instructions to myself out loud as I was doing my braids and was finally able to do it. Thank you so much
From what i understand, the end (pinky) is the highest part of the ladder and the beginning (thumb) of your hand is the lowest part of the ladder. You move the top two stands of hair (the one between your middle and ring finger, and the one between the middle and index finger) down the ladder on your other hand. This means the strand between your ring and middle will be between you middle and index finger on the other hand, and the stand between the middle and index will be between the thumb and index of your other hand. Then with the remaining strand you move it up the ladder (because it is between the thumb and index it is on the lowest part of the ladder) and bring it to your other hand between your ring and middle finger. Sorry if it is hard to understand i just wanted to be thorough.
Thank you! This was my first semi-successful attempt at French braiding my own hair! It really helps to think of it as a ladder and to use the same fingers for the same strands every time! Finally I don’t get mixed up!
Finally!!! 27 years old and this is the first technique that hasn’t made me rage quit and wanna cut my hair short!! This is life goal level to me so thank you for this amazing trick!!!
don't feel bad. i am 49 and finally got it.

I wish we had a third hand so two hands would hold the hair and the third one would bring hair from the sides 😥
Four would be awesome lol
I'd love to see someone like animate a 4 handed braid taking place. that would be pretty cool.

OMG just watching this… I’m truly amazed. I love your mum!!
Thank you ladies so much!
Love it! you're really pretty! also i have that same bedspread haha
Thank you so much! I have been trying to learn how to french braid my hair for ages and I could never figure out how to do it. But with the help of your video, it only took me two tries before I finally managed to do it! Thank you!!
I feel so dumb when you said "that my mom taught me". You have a *smart* mom.
I always come back to these two videos on the ladder technique, they literally changed my life since I first saw them around 5 years ago
OMG I CAN'T DO IT MY HAIR JUST DOESN'T SEPERATE WHEN YOU SPLIT IT INTO THREE! AHHHHH
Elena Shipley same here..
Elena Shipley mine is the same!!! it's too fine and damaged looool
put oil in it
the greasier the better
Thats my issue, it gets tangled trying to separate and my fat arms get tired.
I just wanted to thank you because I just kept repeating the instructions to myself out loud as I was doing my braids and was finally able to do it. Thank you so much
What does “up the ladder” mean? I still don’t get it
From what i understand, the end (pinky) is the highest part of the ladder and the beginning (thumb) of your hand is the lowest part of the ladder.
@@hannahmulvehill8091 Thank you so much I was really confused. I actually did it, it doesn't look amazing but I think it was good for a first attempt.
Oh my goodness... I can’t even believe this technique exists and I’m 33 and seeing this for the first time. Thank you! Seriously!
Even THIS is impossible for me. In the end I just have loose hair..
Thank you! This was my first semi-successful attempt at French braiding my own hair! It really helps to think of it as a ladder and to use the same fingers for the same strands every time! Finally I don’t get mixed up!
I'm so sorry but I don't understand...😪
Jackie Buck awe same💔
Jackie Buck me neither 😢
Jackie Buck I also how did the grade started like how ufff
IKR???...
I'm 28 and this is the first time I could do this! Wasn 't even looking for a tutorial... Thank you for teaching me this method.
