There is “cheap” and there is “inexpensive “: Harley Benton used to make “cheap” and now they make “inexpensive “ instruments . They USED to junk, from all the reviews that I have read and watched, and that is NOT the case anymore.
I am planning on buying a couple of their basses, as I am planning on practicing bass again. You can get up to three guitars or basses shipped to the U.S. , at the same time, for about $35.00,... so it actually makes sense to get at least two for the low cost of the instruments.
And everyone says they make GREAT instruments for gradual upgrade projects ( replacing the strings, pick-ups, adding shielding inside and upgrading the pots, etc.)
I plan on getting this one and eventually replacing the J pick-up, adding some shielding on the inside and placing a black pick guard and upgrading the strings.

I want to get it for the same reason, to record my own bass and also to learn the instrument. Seems like a good deal. I can always throw in some pickups at some point but I want a decent instrument for a cheap price. I bought an SC550+EMG and it's so good it blew my mind. Of course 100 bucks is a lower class but I'm just a hobby bassist.

hi, im a newcommer to and baught the same bass, thought it would be a fine beginner guitar, and i got nearly the same "issues". humming stops when touching metal parts and the JPickup sounds really noisy and scratchy. I dont know if i doing something really wrong on the knobs or the amp.Maybe its an hardware problem,or something in the environment...as a new bro with a cheap guitar,im glad so far,but it would be awesome to get some of that irritating noise off.
did i get it right that the single coil Pickup sound is "normal" in this case?
any Ideas or workarounds to stop that "static sound" wich disappear when touching?

I have a question, Do you think that their RB-414 would be good for metal?

Given the fact that the noise disappeares when you touch a metallic part (bridge, strings, etc), this has to be a ground issue, which accenuates when you use the single coiled j pickup.
Check the ground wiring and you should be fine

To further advance my thought, I think it's a great base (pun intended...) to use it as a ground to upgrade it!

I have checked the wiring with a multimeter and everything looks fine

What about the bridge ground wire?

@@boukaw7 that's the first thing I checked and there's normal continuity

Probably it's noisy cheap J-pickup. Also problem can be with other sources of hum like PC, monitor TV and others. Try to switch off maximum of sources and test again.
