It's strange to admit that as a full time artist, I'm not able to paint or create art every single work day. I used to feel guilty about this and would stress myself out to set aside creative time on top of video editing and art shop upkeep. The reality is that there are a lot of different aspects to life as a full time artist that I didn't expect. I enjoy them, but it took some time to set realistic expectation on what I could get done during a work day. Now, I aim to get one painting done a week which can translate to one to three days of actual painting. In this vlog, I'll be finishing up an oil painting portrait, creating an urban watercolor painting from my trip to Rome, practicing the piano, and visiting a local art museum!
This type of consistent (not daily) art practice has been working the best for my career and life right now! It takes a lot of pressure off myself and allows me to really enjoy my painting days when I get them. I hope you're able to find a balance that works for you too!

I completely agree! Thank you 🫶🏼
I love how you’re showing that you can improve at multiple hobbies at one time with consistency ❤The piano over the painting is chefs kisss~
Ahh I’m so glad you enjoyed that! It’s been fun to be creative in different ways 😊❤️
Don’t be so hard on yourself. A career as an artist can not be compared to a 9 - 5 job. You may find it difficult to paint one month but then find inspiration and begin painting more frequently the next month.
Looking forward to your next video. 😊
Such a multi-talented young woman you are, Ashleigh. Filming, editing, painting, and a musician. I love the redheaded woman you painted today, and also the cityscape you did in watercolor. I truly enjoy your vlogs and look forward to each one.
Very true topic. That's why I expressed the importance of daily breaks and breaks from schedules in my video on productivity.
Doing a watercolor painting and playing piano consist in controlling gestures and at the same time, having smooth gestures.
Two very similar worlds beautifully represented here Ashleigh !
I love your art ❤😊
I was demotivated because I didn't feel like practicing daily and that made me feel bad for myself. Thanks so much for your video Ash ❤❤❤
Beautiful and helpful video, thank you for that. I like your watercolor very much because you give space and "air " to the colours, not covering the surface in a flat way, it is unique.
It’s important to find a balance that works for you, art should be fun 😊
I just started drawing and I love your content, it's so beautiful, peaceful, and encouraging :) Thanks for sharing this one specifically, I tend to set unrealistic goals all the time in my life, and I'd get frustrated and disappointed in myself when I can't keep up with them. Learning to take things slowly:)
One of my fav channels! Humble, realistic, artistic 👌
Thank you for inspiration!
Oh must say how beautifully your paintings are evolving- loved both oil and watercolor!
Be kind to oneself and go with the flow! 🧡💜🌈💐
Thank you so much 😀 that means a lot to me!!💖
Hi Ashleigh, your videos are always so nice to watch. As an artist myself, I struggle with this concept of wanting to paint all the time, but life pulls us in many directions and it can be challenging to find the right balance. Its easier said than done, but finding that right balance will work out. Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
I love how loose and gestural you kept the watercolor painting!!! And you did a nice job leaving some of the white of the paper showing. Great work!
Whenever I see you--- It comes to my mind that in our previous life--- we have any connection...Supra das bombay
At the end of day we all came from same source
I have a performance career, and I really appreciated the message here, Ashleigh. It’s so important to trust yourself, experiment, and find the mix that works for your own practice.❤ ETA: this was a lovely look into your artistic life. 😊
I’m so glad it was relatable! It’s been interesting to learn these lessons along the way. My way of thinking is constantly changing, hopefully for the better haha! Wishing you the best! ❤️
@@AshleighKing haha, that's all any of us can hope for! All the best to you, too. 💮
Me encantan tus videos Ashleigh!!! Después de un día agotador no hay nada mejor que ver tus videos y relajarse e inspirarse un rato ♥
Gymnopedie is one of my favorites and you play it beautifully. A nice accompaniment for painting.
Thank you very much!
I saw this video this morning and I'm really impressed with your skills. Wow. You mix those colors really well! I wish I would reach that level someday. I will continue to follow you and hopefully reach that goal someday. Thank you for the inspiration this morning!
Thanks a lot for sharing your ideas and experience😌 I feel motivated to keep creating art!
Hey Ashleigh, a great artist once told me that the day you stop “practicing” (and just treat every session as “pure painting”)…….. is the day you become an artist and by extension the day you start creating art. I believe this to be true as being a student and doing studies is great but this is not a creative act. If you adopt the mindset that each session is pure painting- anything is possible(even from what might have previously been a study). It’s like going to graduate school……if you are studying psychology- you don’t yet refer to yourself as a psychologist right?…..this is a good thing as it takes the pressure off and allows you to learn technical skills. It is when the student graduates and decides they have learned enough technique/theory that they then become a psychologist. In essence artists don’t practice- students do. What an artist does is create paintings ( detailed ones, quick ones, loose ones, large ones, small ones and everything in between). It is a mindset shift, and it will change the way you paint. 😊
Oh and BTW, the piano was amazing! Loved it so much!!! 😍😍😍
Your art vlog videos are always good feeling as aesthetically pleasing and inspire me no matter what the title. I always feeling the beautiful to you too! ✨💕😍
Thank you so much as always friend 😊🫶🏼
I really enjoy your paintings , you inspire me
Absolutely gorgeous watercolor! Thanks for sharing your advice! Loved your Piano piece. That song plays a lot on my Pandora, when I am painting. It is So Calming. ❤
Beautiful work as always. You inspire me every time you post and I am really greatful I found your channel at start. Thank you for sharing your beautiful work and knowledge.
I appreciate the encouragement! Thank you for watching 😊
I just stumbled over your account and I love your vlogs. Makes making art less lonely as it can be lonely for me. ❤️
Watching your youtube felt like enjoying national geography. I called it the beauty of national humanity.
I can feel a girl's emotion in painting when you are drawing.
Thank you.
Thank you 😊 💓 you are very talented piano and painting fantastic 👏 have a wonderful week 😊
you are pure inspiration for me. Thanks, Elena
❤️
Thank you for sharing your beautiful work and knowledge☺
Nice job on this, and I finally got to hear you play piano!! Your Satie sounded great!! (One tip: A lot of digital pianos models record optimally directly from the "line out" outputs.) Your building watercolors are consistently amazing!! Also, great work on the pensive redhead. Even as a watercolor, she reminds me a bit of a Sargent or a pre-Raph piece!! You make a great point about mixing things up to stay fresh. I try to do that too, between my music projects my art projects, and watching other people create.
Greetings from the Netherlands 👋So true! Even if painting is your favorite activity, you can't paint every single day, every single minute. You have to take a little break to recharge. Thank you for this video ❤
I love your paintings and videos. ❤❤❤❤
I’ve always been impressed with your work ethic! Next to natural talent, I think it is probably the best explanation for the seemingly endless expansion of your skill set. Your paintings are a joy to behold, and now you’re creating your own soundtracks 😮. Great job on that very challenging piece. I would imagine that keeping that slow and deliberate tempo took a lot of focus and discipline- two things at which you obviously excel.
I was wondering if you also work mostly daytime hours, or do you find inspiration striking at random times?
❤
Beautiful painting and beautiful vidio, love it
from the first video you have put out i have always said "Do you". And you have. I have also said you have 3 jobs as an artist, being an artist, being a store manager, being a book keeper. Finding the balance is what you have done. That balance is different for everyone. You have found yours Being you.
Gratidão por me inspirar a continuar
A true artist keep going 😊🙏

Как красиво играете на пианино, умничка💋💋💋♥️♥️♥️👍👍👍
Great video and beautiful painting

Que vídeo lindo!
🤗🤗🍃 wonderful 👍😊
Hi ashleigh! I found your channel few days ago. I really like your videos. I like following your vlogs. I'm from sri anka.💜💜💜💜💜
I've barely watched the video but I'm already like what's the word..
I know consistency is good but I kept entering a cycle of going all out and burn out
Another thing that is just working on one thing for a period of time never really crossed my mind. I've always try and rush? Get a little when it looks bad even when I know I'm the type of artist that needs time to actually work through it
Although I haven't watched the full video. I need to say already this is some good advice so thank you
Youre living my dream-future life
Hi, Ashleigh King :) Thang you so much for sharing such quality videos. I like all your videos. :D
What amazing vlog
Thank you so much 😁
@@AshleighKing you're welcome!
Nós artistas somos muito sensíveis, mas cada um encontra o seu tempo, Obrigada por compartilhar suas dificuldades, as vezes também fico esgotada, é bom saber que é normal. Devagar e sempre!
Você tocando gymnopedie nº1, eu amo essa música
Amazing Work .. I'm also watercolorist ❤️😍
cool
Your paintings are so beautiful and I remember there's an art museum here in Florida where I live
Thank you! That’s great! What’s the name? I grew up in Florida:)
@@AshleighKing yeah that's right Florida that the state where I live
I guess all jobs spawn their share of romanticized notions of the work. Very rarely does anyone really consider all the "B-Roll" that makes the life of an artist possible. Any artist who's ever wrestled with their 1099-Ks can attest to that. Great and informative video as always, and thanks for giving us a taste of "Muscian-Ashleigh"! Hope we see more.👏👏👏👏
Very true!! It’s best to accept the realities sooner than later. Lol I am not looking forward to my taxes this year 🥲
I am a painter and when I see you, I really feel strong and say to myself, yes, there are still people in the world who love art and feel it with passion.💫💖
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Your hands are very beautiful
how do you paint safely in your apartment with oils? i want to do it as well but i’m very scared and don’t know what i need to do or buy
I try to keep the windows open as much as possible. You can also choose to clean your brushes with only oils like linseed or safflower oil. This way you will not have to use mineral spirits! There are also water based oil paints that you don't need toxic mediums for. :)
I do enjoy your work and what you have to say about it. I would like to hear/see how you handle your art business. Do you advertise or use social media to do it for you? What businesses do you use to do your prints, packaging, mailing, etc. What system do you use to get payment for your work? Do you ever get stuck for what you should be paid and how do you collect from deadbeats who skip paying (assuming that does happen on occasion). I so like your art but I am just as interested in how you run your business and I think there are many viewers that feel the same way. -OkieSketcher1949
I try to take a break from art, but i just cant seem to 😣
Thanks for a great video. Please play piano again - but make sure to record the sound properly (turn down the speaker volume a bit and avoid clipping when recording by adjusting microphone gain). Greetings from Oslo, Norway.
Wonderful video 💜🎨
