    As an older artist who came to full time after 25 years of accounting, this simple non-compete approach took me ages to learn. You see I felt I had little time left when I started, felt like I was playing catch up to everyone especially those younger. Now after 22 years of being an artist, teaching privately and coming into my own I realize how waistful that mind set was to carry around for 19 of those years. The burden it became and the smaller my world as a result. Dear sweet girl your artistic heart is as great as your talent, I hope you go far. And your tribute to older artist who gave you the brush - I wish for better times ahead and security in his life.

    One of the things I appreciate the most of your channel, is that you show how long is the process of creating art. This time with social media where we see fast video secuencies of art, we tend to think that art is fast. And no, art takes time. There is the magic of everything. I loooove so much see your process, how you approach everything. It give me peace in my process too. We lack of more human references. Thanks for not speeding your videos. It is so so so appreciated. I just love so much!
    Thanks for sharing!
    And last, I think we lack too of references who start in the art business. We tend to see all artist that have achieved so much things that we think that we are so far from there, that I feel just discouraged. We need to see process from the beginning. How slowly the process is, and feel comfortable with that. With REAL LIFE!. Moderate expectations. And live life and art just how it is, slowly, fascinating and magic.
    Thanks, thanks and thanks! 🙏🏽

    ASHLEIGHHHHH!!!!
    i want to thank you so much, art has been my talent since i was a child but it was never my passion, i was going to pursue it as a career and you’ve made me fall in love it it again, even though i’m the process i realised it wasn’t for me. But due to your videos i’ve found my true passion which is cooking, and you’ve allowed me to keep my love for art (whereas without you i started to grow resentful towards it)

    I used to have a similar attitude toward other artists. They would either be adversaries I had to "beat," or I put them on pedestals as someone who had achieved something I couldn't (both were really self-destructive attitudes). Now, I'm learning to see other artists, no matter their level of skill or success, as fellow travelers on the journey. I don't have to beat anybody, I'll get there in my own time. As a matter of fact, learning from the experiences of artists like yourself might help me avoid some of the potholes along the way. So it's all good. Another great Vlog!👏👏👏👏

    • @makizenin1840
      @makizenin1840 2 года назад +1

      You're so right about the pedestals part. I often put he people I admire on a very High pedestal which ended up making me feel too less about myself as a person and I even ended up losing my self-worth but this year have opened my eyes and helped me to view things in a more logical way and now I do not compare myself with anyone else but to my past self only:)

    Hello Ashleigh, another Peaceful video. When i think back on my own art past, i was never in a competion with someone else. It was more like " how did they do that?". How did one of the dutch masters make you feel like you could smell the lemon that was on a canvas the size of a house. Or the smell of the wine on the table in the same scene that he painted. Wanting to be like another artist always felt like i was copying what they did and not doing my own thing. Competing and wanting to be like someone else is in a way the same thing. You are following or chasing someone elses talent and not growing your own. You can learn from other artists the "how to's" and many artists i think like to share technics and methods and little "trade secrets" just dont copy them. Now if it is a study to figure out how they did something that is different, that is learning.
    I tend to look at things as always lead the way in whatever you do. Let people come to you and try to copy you or "chase" you. All we should be doing is focusing on is achieiving OUR goals and ignoring what others are doing in the mindset of "i want to do that". Be yourself, persue yourself. Follow your own heart. In essence what brings you down is the feeling im not good enough compared to whomever. The thing is you are not them so dont try to be like them be you. I may have repeated myself there but thats what competion really is, you either lead or you follow. What would you rather be?
    Last thing. Ashleigh you seen how you lost some of your knowledge with oil painting by not doing it for awhile? That is a valuable lesson for everyone. If people want to get better at something it needs to be a daily exercise. Or you will loose some of that knowledge and muscle memory. Kind of like painting the same thing ( or drawing ) everyday for 30 days. From day one to day 30 you will see how much better you get. Just keep at it and be you the orginal Ashleigh.💗

    Hi Ashleigh ! I've been enjoying your art for some time now, and the thing that most consistently pleases my eye is the colors you create and the way you blend them. I couldn't begin to explain the technical skill involved. I personally think this is a natural or learned skill at which you excel! Keep putting this great art out into the world. It is doing good work! Great vlog, too. I loved the personal stories and the way you connect with us through very simple, everyday experiences like lighting a candle, or eating a bowl of soup with cheese and bread :) These things are somehow very grounding and comforting. Finally, thank you very much for your consistent push for humility and compassion. There will never be too much of this in the world.

    I love how genuine your videos are ❤️ And I think you're very brave to share all of that. Your story with the brush instantly reminded me of something similar which happened to me. When I was still in school, we had a family friend who was an artist and after he saw my watercolor paintings he proposed to paint together a few times. I believed my paintings were childish but he told me he sensed a really strong feeling for color in them and that I should continue painting. On one of our sessions he gave me one of his chinese watercolor brushes. I still keep it, it's very special to me, although I'm also feeling guilty because I didn't do a very good job keeping the shape of the brush back then. Maybe it's time to take this brush out again and bring it to life. Anyway, thank you for this ❤️ Because of this video I just started to think about all of these little words and moments of encouragement from people around me and they make me smile ❤️

    In my life path, I have learned that nobody is someone else's competition, it is a learning circle and if you know how to respect the work of others it is because you know the work that has cost them to arrive, you will have your time and space to do what you like the most, doing your job well, no one is the one to take away those merits from others, I love your way of pwnsar, your way of expressing yourself and you know without realizing it fills me with satisfaction to see your work (your dream) echo Reliada learn to overcome yourself.

    • @AshleighKing
      @AshleighKing  2 года назад +1

      Yep! I used oil paints for the 2nd bigger painting. I add Gamblin solvent free gel to my paints to speed up the drying time! There was also a week break between finishing the painting and varnishing it 😊

    Loved the painting and the stories you told so much 🌞🪷your videos always inspire me to create something myself, and i have one question: how long do you wait before putting the varnish on your paintings? Do you really have to wait 6 months (that’s what im reading a lot). I’m already exited for your shop! ✨

    • @AshleighKing
      @AshleighKing  2 года назад +2

      Thank you so much!! I’m very happy to hear that 💖
      For most varnishes, yes you have to wait that long. However I use Gamblin’s Gamvar which only requires the painting to be dry to the touch! So I wait about a week before I varnish 😊

    This paint was so pretty! I just started my first oil painting. But I didn’t know about the gesso primer or oil thinners and mediums. I already bought a thinner because I the value, but I’m still wondering about the gesso. If I cover the Canva first with a thin layer of any light brown color. Why it can’t be my primer? What is the difference when you do both: the gesso and the thin color base layer? What benefit has the gesso base? I have a short budget so do you really think gesso it is an essential? Hope you can help! Thanks for the painting inspiration and also for the filmmaking flow. I really got relax with your videos 🙏❤️

    • @AshleighKing
      @AshleighKing  2 года назад

      Thank you!! So a gesso layer is typically a layer of acrylic paint that helps to protect the surface of the canvas from the chemicals in the oil paint. It’s definitely important to use in oil painting.
      The layer of thinner brown paint is more or a preference. I use it to make the surface a midtone color so I can more easily find the right light and dark tones.
      I hope this helps! Thanks for your kind comments 🥰❤️

      @@AshleighKing thank you, of course your reply is very helpful when you are a beginner than never has taken a painting class lol I bought the cheaper gesso I found in Hobby Lobby after a read it, so I let you know. Also, maybe you need content ideas. Can you add to any video a demonstration of the difference between Gambling thinners and mediums, and how it affects the dry speed of the paint? Also, your filmmaking motivates me to continue my videos on this my Spanish RUclips channel. I hope one day I can be so good storytelling and filmmaker like you. Sorry I wrote a lot lol but I really love your content, and this is the only way I have to let you know how grateful I feel to have your videos. Again, thanks so much for your hard work and support in my begging journey ❤❤❤❤❤🤗
