    Thank you so much for this information! I am an incoming D1 student trying to get some more information about the scholarship. How would you describe your experience while working for the NHSC? Or can you mention any pros and cons that you may have experienced?

    I had heard about this scholarship when I was applying last year but I ultimately chose to go through the military instead. With everything I have calculated about the scholarship, I choose to take the (HSCP with the Navy) and utilizing the perk of being considered active duty I am able to utilize the post 9-11 GI. The culmination of the two means after I graduate I will end up being essentially paid to go to dental school. There are so many different ways you can pay for dental school just have to be proactive! Good luck to all the other D1 students starting in the fall and to those applying.

      I went to be a Dentist so bad but the price is what scares me away. I can’t think about being in debt for that much. What are things or ways to research for scholarships to pay for dental school?

  • @moremi5192
    @moremi5192 3 года назад +2

    As far as including community service experience in order to stand out, do I need to have documentation with signatures of all of the times that I've served? I haven't kept track :/

    • @wsutherland
      @wsutherland 3 года назад +2

      You shouldn’t need signatures, but try to keep track of all of your hours for all of your experiences for your dental school application! The NHSC only asks for a CV. Instead of having signatures to verify, it’s a good idea to have a leader of a service organization you worked at write a solid letter of recommendation! Good luck!

    So did you apply for the scholarship the same year you applied to dental school? Can you submit an application for the scholarship without an acceptance and then they wait until you're accepted into a dental school before releasing funds?

    • @DentistAkosua
      @DentistAkosua  2 года назад +2

      You have to receive an acceptance letter before you can apply for the scholarship.

  • @sblkay6315

    Hi! I have another question. Do you have to be fit or do a fit test to be a part of this scholarship program? Ex: go to the military base to work or workout?

    • @DentistAkosua
      @DentistAkosua  3 года назад

      No there is no physical ability test to participate in this program.

  • @a.stewart7554

    Can you specialize with NHSC?

    • @DentistAkosua
      @DentistAkosua  2 года назад +1

      The approved post graduate specialty programs for NHSC are GPR, AEGD, Pediatric Dentistry and Public Health Dentistry. Any other specialty you will have to complete your service in primary care first before pursuing it.

    Please I really want to get into a dental program in Canada but I don't know how to get there, I was accepted to study a pharmacy program can I move from pharmacy to a dental program?

  • @sblkay6315

    Hi! Is it possible for you to be deployed overseas? Also, if you do, do you get to choose where you go?

    • @DentistAkosua
      @DentistAkosua  3 года назад +1

      This program does not have any overseas deployment for your service - you might be confusing this with the military. You have a choice of where to go, with a few limitations depending on the HPSA score of the clinic or site.

    • @sblkay6315

      No you don't. You can work in any clinic in any state that qualifies - typically FQHCs.
