I've never been bitten by a funnel-web, but when I was younger I was bitten on the eyelid by a big redback... I can confirm that that hurts too...

Christine Sturgess was the last person killed by a spider bite, the family just got out of bed, had breki and she sent the kids to school, when she was making one of the beds she was bitten, that happened in Helensburgh

We live on Sydney's Upper North Shore, which is a favourite part of the world for funnel webs. You need to be very careful gardening, especially rolling rocks over. From time to time, we used catch one - something you should not do unless you know what you're doing and are wearing proper gloves. Having caught the spider, we'd take it to the casualty department of a nearby public hospital. The spider were collected from there and taken to a specialist centre, where they were made comfortable. They'd be milked for their venom, which becomes the anti-venene. I cannot now remember when the antivenene was devised, but I'm pretty sure that there have been no deaths since it became available.
As I said, you need to be careful gardening, especially during spider season. A little peculiarity is that they like water and can often be caught in swimming pools. I needed to keep an eye open when emptying the skimmer box and the Polaris pool cleaner. Now we've moved from the house to a nearby unit, we still have to be careful gardening (we have a small bit of garden and lawn on title), but no longer have a pool.

Dude is here for a good time, not a long time. Mind you, the chooks love eating them. It's like when we get visitors and they go look in rock pools at the beach and play with the blue ringed octopus. Not a good idea.

They collect them to extract venom (milking) to make anti-venom. And doing research to see if it can be used for helpful purposes 😊

There are 36 species of Atracidae, 32 Hadronyche 3 Atrax and 1 Illawarra wisharti , The Sydney Funnelweb aka Atrax Robustus is 7 times deadlier than the female , and live in Sydney and it surrounding areas but Hadronyche Formidabilis is arborial the biggest And just as deadly , as can H infensa H cebera H Versuta, Atrax Sutherlandi named after Dr Struan Sutherland invented the anti venine, these Mygalomorphs are amazing, but those species have a Delta Atracotoxin and that kills primates and primates only, it's quite insane as it preys on mammals and we are also mammals, but it's the Delta Atracotoxin no Great Apes no chimps no Orang-utans only us humans, so why does this aracnid evolve with a poison like that , I love our elapids also . Cheers
