Playing with knobs IS easy. And so is playing like everybody else. But what makes Bernie great is he doesn't play like anyone else, he doesn't look like anyone else, and he doesn't SOUND like anyone else. He had the BALLS to go out and play what was in his heart, and THAT'S what makes Bernie great!
I'm reading this page, and the haters are in force, but I say to you that I was at a parlament/funcadelic concert were he played the intermission, and the music from his keyboards was so rich and think that you could almost see the colors of the music. I was sold on his sound at 14 years old.
After playing the guitar for 25 years I've come to the conclusion that the best things I've ever played were improvisations that usually stemmed from mistakes! Bernie is a legend!!!! I bet if you asked him to play exactly what he just played again... He'd have to study a recording and practice for weeks!
Worrell tocaba sus piezas de strings originalmente en su ARP Solina Strings Ensemble, junto con Clavinet, Minimoog, piano y posteriormente Prophet-5.WOO FOREVER!
Bernie took all of his classical Julliard training and plugged it into a wall socket. Threw some grilled onions and neckbones on top to make it Funky.. then served it up to the world!
aside from the obvious magnitude of the musical prowess on display in this clip, i wanted to inquire about another aspect of it that i think deserves attention. Who knows the orgins of that shirt and where can i get one? :) seriously though... im in love with that shirt. Long Live The Wizard.
@gretschjazzer Have you even listened to any funkadelic or parliament records? Not only did he play synthesizers on not just knee deep and on flashlight but he played piano on various songs on maggot brain, piano on "all your goodies are gone", organ on moonshine heather, and clavinet, piano, and organ on most of the songs on america eats its young. Listen to a parliament-funkadelic record before you criticize...
For those who love Bernie - he is now dealing with stage 4 lung cancer and a campaign has been set up to help pay some of his bills. Here's the info for those who wish to donate: www.youcaring.com/bernie-worell-501298
Well, all of his album are of his sound. Only his first two album are funk heavy, but the rest are pretty "out there", like "Blacktronic Science" and especially "Pieces Of Woo: The Other Side"!
@gretschjazzer Yeah he's a total hack. Just like all the other classically trained musical prodigies who went to Julliard, which is one of the most prestigious music schools in the world.

Amazing. He just basically played the sound of the universe. *We are not worthy*. Metaphysical.
Love his work with Talking Heads, especially their "Stop Making Sense" show.
Bernie worrell in my opinion is the greatest key board player of all time and may be R.I.P God love him !🎹🎵🙏

Bernie IS the epitome of music (and all what's intended, classical, indian, and avant-guarde !).

awesome, i'm looking forward to hearing what he offers on the Prince Paul, Bernie Worrell & Newkirk (Baby Elephant) "Turn My Teeth Up" CD!
I love this…straight outta Sun Ra’s worlds…channeled by Worrell into something new. Wish I could have seen him when he was alive.

playing cello I was taught that when you're playing jazz you're supposed to repeat the mistake a few times so it doesn't sound weird
