  • Comparison of Kevlar VS Ballistic Nylon as body armour.
    Modern reinforced Kevlar is surprisingly good at resisting bladed weapons as well as bullets.
    Ballistic nylon was originally developed by the DuPont corporation as a material for flak jackets to be worn by World War II airmen. It has since been used in infantry flak jackets before being replaced by Kevlar.
    Kevlar is a well-known component of personal armour such as combat helmets, ballistic face masks, and ballistic vests. The PASGT helmet and vest used by United States military forces since the 1980s both have Kevlar as a key component, as do their replacements. Other military uses include bulletproof facemasks used by sentries and spall liners used to protect the crews of armoured fighting vehicles.

    Very interesting video, didn't really know a thing about balistic nylon so learned quite a bit.

      +WeaponCollector Glad you liked it, it's a bit obsolete now as Kevlar was basically made as the replacement for it, looks quite similar without a liner around it but kevlar is stronger weight wise than Ballistic nylon.

    I've been collecting body armour for about 4 years now & I have between 20-25 vests. I've been tying to find the most covert black cool mesh vest available so that I can wear it whilst in high risk areas without anyone noticing. I noticed to make it extra covert you have to buy the next size down than your actual size. This is so that it clings tighter to your body but it also means it is lighter but provides less surface area of protection. Mine is HG1A/KR2. I even removed the shoulder Kevlar to make it more covert & wear a baggy shirt over it. You can barely notice it & actually keeps you warm. The manufacturer is meggitt armour systems & I believe they provide body armour to Glasgow security & police. It is 8 years old but very little use & great condition so would still have most of its protection :-)

      Try taking the liner out of a British ecba vest(one with the tiny sapi plates) and fit it inside of a denim jacket

    would both type body armor stop AP ammo?

      Depends on the calibre, ballistic nylon would have to be very thick to effectively stop bullets, kevlar is stronger by volume but level 2 kevlar like the one in the video won't stop much more than pistol rounds, steel cored rounds or high-velocity rounds would go through. Level 3 kevlar can stop more bullets but you'd need a trauma plate in front to actually give good protection from rifle rounds.

    The title scared me a little lol,thought you were gona wreck your ni vest mate...allways had a soft spot for this vest,£35 i paid 10 years ago. Going £100 on ebay now

      +tumbo1984 Nah wouldn't shoot it for that reason, keeping it intact in case I need it, the Mark 2 version is quite interesting with the plate carrier front section for trauma plates.

      +Weaponsandstuff93 it is the strangest on i own lol...the plate in the front sits a little high for comfort but the rest is good mate

    so basically ballistic nylon offers the equivalent protection to a steel pot helmet?

    •  2 месяца назад

      A m69 at best it may stop a .38 acp depending the distance, there is some informal tests on the internet that say that it also may stop a 9mm JHP (a heavy grain bullet) but not a 9mm FMJ

    Will ballistic nylon be resistant to bites and scratches from aggressive dogs?

      Yes

      However it won't stop stabs, i have seen some tests and it fails

    I bet nobody knows that layered seatbelts will stop a 9mm. I made a vest of about 15 layers of seatbelts. Works like a charm. Lightweight. And durable.

      Tell me, have you already put it to the test? And if so, did you use resin to join it or did you just sew it?

    would you think a 1/2-3/4 inch plate of laminated seat belts stop 9mm. and 12 gauge slug?

      also what type of mail is that

    • @Weaponsandstuff93
      @Weaponsandstuff93  7 лет назад

      +John Willett Don't know but I imagine a slug would kill through kinetic force.

    • @Weaponsandstuff93
      @Weaponsandstuff93  7 лет назад

      +John Willett It's basically chainmail/riveted mail to stop blades, as Kevlar is vulnerable to spiked blades.
