These forks fit really well, but I do have a less costly option for you when you are ready to make the move. I have been riding some Vega Racing Carbon forks (look just like the Box X5) for a few months and just haven't had a chance to put out the video yet. I have some clips on my IG account (@thedrivetrain) and they are a little cheaper than the name brand forks as well. Feel free to reach out if you want to chat more about the forks.
43yo big boy rider and I love my Mongoose Title Elite Cruiser. The only things I really changed on it were the crank arms and the brakes. I rode it all last season and this is my second season up here at the NOVABMX track.
I got a chance to race them after I shot this video content and the change was amazing. I'm working on that review video next, but it is gonna require a little more editing to get it finished up. I checked out your channel and love seeing the steps you are taking. Keep gettin it.
@@TheDriveTrain ah, the content creator grind never stops 😁 It's almost a full time job when you get heavy into it. Take your time. Your audience will still be here when you get the video perfected. I really appreciate you checking me out. More BMX from me to come!
Just ordered a similar wheel build for my Mongoose Title Elite Pro xxl from Chad. Same hoops and hubs. Went with dt swiss stainless spokes to save a few bucks on the build vs titanium. I never saw an update on how you were enjoying the new wheels.
I actually put these alienation wheels on my trails bike at the end of last year. I did a full wheel shootout with my new carbon wheels and then have a bike check video for my three current rides. Wheels: ruclips.net/video/b7RWzEQ6DSk/видео.html Bike check: ruclips.net/video/4lJlZx7-CpU/видео.html
@@TheDriveTrain Cool thanks. I watched the wheel shootout video before and that got me connected with Chad for my wheel build. This season I have grown as a rider alot. Expensive parts are just that if you don't have the skills to support them. Excited to feel like I earned this wheelset as I have grown. Thanks for the #science lessons.
The stock wheels actually do t have a thru-axle on the front so they fit nicely into the forks. Obviously, my new Profile Elite hubs are similar so they pop right in as well.
Greets guys.. I've got some problems on my Mongoose Title Elite 24" \ The thread on the rear axle is damaged (from the factory btw).. So now i'm looking how to repair the thread (what tool can I use ?), and if no luck - where to find the new one.. Looking for some advises from you guys.. Thanks in advance..
If the thread on the axle is damaged you would usually use a “tap and die” set. You would use the good side to figure out the correct thread and pitch and then use the tool to re-thread (repair) the damaged side. Here is a link to a basic kit on Amazon as an example. You might want to measure the axle to make sure you get the appropriate size within the kit. Also, many automotive stores will have these and might let you borrow/rent the tool or do it for you for a few dollars. www.amazon.com/HORUSDY-40-Piece-Sizes-Coarse-Threads/dp/B08F36229F/ref=mp_s_a_1_2_sspa?c=ts&keywords=Tap+&+Die+Sets&qid=1652353517&s=power-hand-tools&sr=1-2-spons&ts_id=391912011&psc=1
@@TheDriveTrain Greets again.. I've got another thing.. My Mongoose Title Elite 24" came with 18 T rear cog, but I want to have ~16 (BTW official site states 16 T).. So.. My rear cog comes with integrated distance ring.. But all the cogs on the market are plain.. So what is the best option for me? To buy plain cog and to look for "spacer"? Or is there options with integrated distance ring? Thanks in advance..
Dave, I just ordered that fork. I thought I could use my existing Mongoose headset with the box fork? Am I correct or did you have to get any other headest parts?
Yes, the stock headset is designed for oversized forks, but the fork race is a unique converter to allow the oversized bearings to center on the straight forks. I don’t think the Box come with a built in race so that is something you would need to pickup before installing. Also, there is a rubber dust cover (gasket) on the bottom of the top bearing cover. When properly tightened it might press this gasket into the frame and cause some binding. You might need to add a small headset shim (or two) to remove the binding once the headset is tightened down.
@@TheDriveTrain Ok thanks we'll see how it goes. Mongoose says the bike comes with both parts, but they also said the bike came with a 3/32 chainring but it's clearly and 1/8 because my 3/32 chain swap didn't fit the chainring. Thanks for the info. I have been loving the Alienation/profile elite wheelset I got from Chad. I noticed a performance difference on the bike just rolling it out of my garage. It's been a bike help for those longer tracks whete I am losing momentum to guys running high end wheels. Thanks!
can you tell me for a long run 🏃♂️ should i use 50t/18 or 48t/16 remember i want to use it for everything to be ready to win or have fun i am 49 years old
So, you want to look at the rollout of the gear. I usually use the gear calculator at BMX Ultra (bmxultra.com/gear-calculator/). Right now the industry standard is a 44/16 gear which has a rollout of 53.6. Last year I ran a 45/16 which did well for most of my racing, but I just dropped back to the 44/16 to grab a better gate. It will require some extra spin, but it is needed to stay competitive at the National races. Now, if you run the big gear setup I think a 50 or 51/18 will get you where you need to be for the rollout. In the end you have to find the balance between your power output (strength), spin (fast twitch muscles) and your riding skills. Sometimes the lower gear keeps us 40+ racers in check so we can’t go faster than our skill level.
Thanks for the review. At 42 I have been racing on a Title ProXL for 18 months and have moved to intermediate. I upgraded the wheels and cranks but have a Title Elite Pro XXL on the way because I have been getting faster i need a larger frame for better stabilityat speed. I liked the XLR8 tires! They had good tread and I liked the 110 psi pressure. But i switched to ultra-lite tubes and wire bead Power Blocks and love them too. Any thought on upgrading tires and tubes to save a little more weight? Thanks again for the review and "keep the rubber side down!"
That’s awesome man. Congrats on getting to intermediate. I do think you will like the Title Elite once you get use to it. The rear triangle is longer as well so that will take some getting used to, but a consistent practice goes a long way. In terms of tires I honestly haven’t changed. I’m still n the XLR8 tires and they have been doing well for me. I finally put a fresh pair on a few weeks ago, but they were the same tires that a friend gave me from his title so same tires, just new. I’m also a little different in that I only run 65 psi in my tires. I e never felt comfortable going higher than that, I guess it’s just something Um hanging onto from my old school days. Obviously, there is some science behind lighter rim, tube, tire combos have less rotational mass therefore less torque required to spin, but also you can overthink that to a certain degree. I believe that we (myself included) throw money at gear instead of going to the gym or doing uphilll sprints. I hope these thoughts are helpful on some level. Keep rippin’
I hear you. We can spend hundreds of dollars to drop grams here and there, but it doesn't cost anything to work on dropping rider weight. I have been making myself do sprints to build my legs up at home in addition to my running and weights. Got my Title Pro Elite xxl assembled and have been working on sprints at home, no track time yet. I did move my 1.75 powerbooks and maxxis light weight tubes over. I weighed the tire/tube combo and there is a 150 g weight difference in 1 tire/tube combo from stock. So front and rear tire and tube swap shaved about 10 oz from the bike. Tubes were $10 each and the cheap wire bead powerblock were $30 each. Just throwing that out there since it's a fairly cheap and measurable weight reduction.
Man, I wish I still had my HP48’s for my trails bike. They were amazing hubs and super strong. They aren’t quite race material, but they were real nice.

That is a tall gear. I had thought about trying the bigger gear life and running a 50/18 on my race bike, but it was gonna be too much effort at this point.
