Proctor getting hate for anything is sad. He's such a nice guy. I'm happy he got that win.
I don't think it's hate. Just an observation.
@@mrtony1985 Yes, an incorrect observation from people who don't know the game, but have a lot to say.
So yeah, not hate, ignorance of what a legal putt is.
@@mrtony1985 an incorrect and completely bonkers “observation” by people who do not know disc golf lol
@@seymourglass26 not at all. it was an illegal throw, not a foot fault. Some people have no idea of the difference. He left the ground before releasing the putt.
@@seanmeier7953 Did you watch this video?
I love that you introduced the commercial lol
felt like a nice "behind the scenes" moment to hear jefferson actually talk about the mcbeth from 69 ad. nice
Toe is still touching. Slowed it down and got the frame.
When it's too close to call, you can't call it. Maybe understand it's for blatant penalties. Not something you can just call because that's how you FEEL.
And in the spirit of the game, unless you're obviously taking an advantage, an inch isn't worth a stroke to me. There is a time and place for foot faults, but even then, Proctor is clean by every written rule.
They should change the rule so that when outside of the circle you must do one of the following:
1. Be in contact with your lie when you release the disc with no supporting points in front of your lie
or
2. Your last point of contact with the ground before your release the disc must be your lie. If you jump from that and release the disc before you land that’s fine.
This makes it easier to call and allows players some more creativity when faced with difficult lies. If we need to increase the size of the circle a few meters that’s fine too.
If you're making a putt from outside 33'. You're just going to have to put some effort into the disc getting there. Hit ten in a row from that distance and tell me otherwise.
@@earthman808or you can learn how to jump putt properly. Banning jump putts would take the cake of dumb rule changes in the last 5 years.
@@playdiscgolf1546For dumb rule changes. Let's do the numbers.
DO you have a percentage of players that actively use the jump putt? Is it really that conceringin? Because, I can really only think of a handful on the pro tour. And it is a really small percentage.
We could argue tiny language details, but you clear up that grey area and I support your idea in the spirit of the game.
Truthfully, no good putter would rather putt from 30 feet flying through the air when they could get a solid plant from the actual lie at 33 and step. The circle "foot faults" mostly get called by dudes on the sofa with no idea how planting gives power and makes the step or jump putt functional.
That fixes nothing. You've just moved the problem to judging when someone is landing rather than leaving the ground.
If you just slow down the footage and pause at the right time you can clearly see the disc leaves his hand first lol
Yup not a fault at all lol 1:22

It's pathetic than anybody is trying to make this into a debatable thing. Reminds me a lot of poor refereeing in other sports. It's just sad
@@lohn2559 it is bonkers these middle aged fatties even consider jump putting a foot fault 🤦🏻♂️
@@BryceRogers_ It's wild that people make such incorrect calls with the assistance of technology, but more proof that most foot fault calls are really whining over inches, especially on step putts, which require a solid plant for accuracy and power.
I wouldn't mind if the rule got modified to eliminate drama, but not take away an advanced technique. Remember, we can run off teepads as long as we release in time, so there has to be some allowing of forward momentum if you're far-enough away from a basket.
Sounds like a good move towards standardized baskets. A very welcomed sound bite.
It's too expensive to just replace them all, but standard guidelines for the future will clean up the sport and some putts.
@@seymourglass26 not expensive at all for the tour... come on

I mean this sincerely; If they want to get consistency of shot with specs of hyzer-type, node angle, speed and spin, they should employ that disc throwing robot that often appears on Simon Lyzotte's channel
I had the exact same poleless basket design with the one difference being the support would be movable by the player before putting. The pole is the major cause of spitouts
Basket testing would be a good use for a disc throwing robot. The repeatability and ability to precisely specify disc speed, spin, and angle would really be beneficial. I like the offset pole. Maybe it could be used at select holes, especially the really open ones. It is rather like having a small tree that can be placed next to the basket but can be moved. For really cool baskets see a Stokely video of him playing some unique baskets in the Pacific Northwest. The chains are suspended from non-horizontal hoops.
"Nitpcking" will only grow as a sport grows. You may not like it but golf is way more nitpicked than Disc Golf will ever be. I actually like it though as we want to get the cleanest result of something as possible.
This is a great point.
Glad to see the move for standardization. It's almost like if golf had a different sized cup and made with different depths and material properties. There is long-standing, important standardization in other pro level sports, namely basketball and hockey. The goals have to be physically identical to a reasonable degree
Baseball would like to disagree
ANOTHER PLAYER NEEDS TO CALL THE FOOT FAULT. YOU KNOW THIS!
His putt was clean but I am all about the PDGA getting rid of step and jump putts unless they are outside C2 not C1. When Barela step putts he is shortening the hole quite a bit. I feel the taller players have an advantage over the shorter ones and yes, Mr. Proctor is a genuine good guy.
Regarding foot faults in pro touranments: we can wring our hands all day long but the rule clearly states that WE do not have a voice in the discussion. It's up to the card to call it, and if they don't, it isn't a foul no matter what the video shows us.
Move the circle to 50 feet then who cares if both your feet are off the ground outside of that. Easy fix
Love The content!!
Why didn't they implement testing for the testing of the testing phase?
The pole-less basket could work if instead of off to the side, it took a C-shape around the basket with some bearings so it could be rotated around to the back side of the basket from every angle. The only problem with that is you end up hoping that the last guy set it to face you at every teebox, else 50% of aces just smashed into a pole.
The biggest problem with foot faults are people calling them without actually being there or having a good look at what happened.
Proctor's putt is clean, you Dorks. Throwing from mid-air is not even close to a clean throw compared to throwing while just barely planted. We're tossing discs, not making jumpshots with basketballs.
Yeah you lose so much power when you putt in mid air haha
@@playdiscgolf1546 Learning step putts (mine aren't great even now) involves finding out that a jump-throw (in the air) is a horrible way to spray in order to get 3 feet closer. In short, a step or jump putt is only for people with actual skill or timing. It's an advanced technique, not a cheat.
@@seymourglass26 Yep. Took me a long time to get it, but jumping then putting simply doesn't work. The point of a jump putt is to generate so much energy into your putt that it's physically impossible to stay behind your lie. Changed the world of C2 for me to figure out that a jump putt is just a more powerful putt, to the point where I have to follow through forwards with my feet.
Having the players test the baskets is prefect because they can't blame anything on spitouts.
Too close to call on the foot fault. No way to know for sure when the disc stops touching his fingers. Benefit of the doubt should go to the player. Nuff said.
There's literally a freeze frame in the video of the disc out of his hand, foot down.
@@mattrobnett58these people vote
On basket, the PDGA should work with manufacturers to develop the best basket. Then the PDGA should release approved design for manufacturers. Ideal state would be more consistent cage shape, size and amount of chains/gauge/length.
use the , and . keys when the video is paused to go frame by frame. Looks like his foot is still touching @52 seconds. But it is very close.
Why not have a machine throw disks at baskets in a defined pattern hitting different parts of the basket accounting for variables: speed, wind, spin, nose angle, distance, plastic, hyzer angle, and whatever else. Use a computer analyzing the video to record where the disc hit and if it falls in the basket. Compile this data for all basket types. Then, decide what are acceptable catch rates for different variables. Any basket that exceeds those defined rates passes.
This would develop a set of data that is much easier to make decisions on, rather than a few professionals hucking 10 discs at a basket and calling it good or not.
This might be a dream. But it could become a reality pretty easily and quickly. Perhaps not terribly cheaply.
Simon Lizotte's friend already has a robot to throw discs fairly reliably. Add an auto-load, a video camera, and some software to record the data and calculate the scores.
At the least, we would have a heat map of best spot to hit a given basket type given my putting style from a particular distance. And we would know what putting styles work the best in which conditions.
Basket designers could use this data and the system to design better baskets.
Just sayin'. This could be really useful information for a variety of consumers.
Someone give Cody a hug please!
As far as the basket testing goes, until you do something without any inherent bias throwing the plastic, the test is invalid. You can't have pros looking at a basket they have a "grievance" against testing its efficacy. I wonder how that's going to go. I get that filming it might reduce some of that, but this just seems poorly thought out.
There’s so many guys firing piss missiles into the chains from 20’ and expecting the baskets to catch every single putt
I'm pretty sure that's why it's filmed. They will count how many putts at which angles stick, and based on that define a percentage that reasonably should stick. They can also sort out any outliers, like if everyone makes 98% of their putts, but Gannon only makes 50%, then that's a Gannon issue, not a basket issue. Obviously a single player can't be allowed to specify basket standards, but get a large diverse group of different putting styles and you can use the data to make informed decisions.
I paused the video and read it, before your warning not to. Damn...people like him are the exact reason I avoid the local scene.
If you ban step putts, then you have to ban follow throughs on drives
He kept saying step putts, he meant jump putts.
If you click twice n RUclips it skips right to the end of the Paul ad. You’re welcome everyone

NOT a foot fault.
Using frame by frame, his foot is on the ground, when he is releasing the disc. But players don't have frame-by-frame.
And it is certainly true that using a style which is questionable, is abuse of your cardmates, and risks being called.
Uli was a shocker for a few years. Dickerson abused the rule many times to win his USDGC.
If Prodigy's baskets are so terrible, they'll fail the standards testing and we won't have to see them on tour anymore.
I suppose I'd only worry about James bear hugging the basket if anyone following on the hole missed their putt. Not something he should continue doing, but hardly did any damage this time around.
I submitted the SponsorBlock times so it auto skips the sponsored segment if you install the addon
It’s pretty difficult to release a putt IN THE MIDDLE OF THE AIR. If my card mates are doing that I ain’t calling because it probably isn’t going in.
Just use the RPM Helix 2, it is already PDGA approved. For standards, raise the minimum chain gauge, then test them. Cheap chains aren't fun.
Slowed Proctors putt down to .25 speed, paused at moment of release. NOT a foot fault, get over it keyboard warriors.
Every one has an opinion on the foot fault noone is a keyboard warrior u seem to be butthurt clown
Foot faults should rarely be called. Outside the circle the advantage of a step is so tiny it's meaningless. The rule serves to promote etiquette and thats all it needs to be.
No baskets should wiggle & move. This is a huge problem on almost every course. I constantly see putts going in that causes the basket to move.
The way I see Jump Putts is like this...
Try to throw anything while both feet are off the ground. It is certainly harder and less accurate than one or both feet being grounded.
Essentially a jump putt while both feet are off the ground makes it a harder shot. Yeah, you "foot faulted", but you also made the shot harder on yourself and shouldnt be penalized for it. Idk. Just my 2 cents on that matter.
As far as Step Putts go tho, very different. If you release your putt when the step-foot/forward foot touches ground, that should 100% be called. Reason being, in that scenario, you are now multiple feet closer to the target upon release, clearly giving you an advantage.
Foot faults, on drives NOT putts shouldnt be called either if your foot slightly touches the marker. Seems really petty. On putts sure, but not on drives or approaches. Unless you're totally on, or past your marker, its giving you zero advantage to be slightly touching the disc.
If anything its changing your footing slightly by steping on the back edge of your marker. Maybe actually a slight disadvantage to you.
Seriously, who even watches their feet during an X Step? A couple millimeters onto your marker is petty as hell.
What do I know tho?
Ive only been playing 2 years now. Just sharing my opinion.
I will say this again however, having thrown things all my life, I can 100% say that throwing anything while both feet are off the ground offers zero advantage. You actually lose power and accuracy by being in the air upon release. If it were the other way around, we'd all being throwing Tee shots while jumping into the air.
If you have to slow-mo or pause a video to notice it, its probably petty bs.
The fact that most comments regarding foot faults is something like "all jump putts are foot faults" show they don't either understand the rules or the form being used. Either way, they're n00bz. Don't let the n00bz change the game please.
If it's egregious players will call it. Til then, tie goes to the runner❤
Why would anyone call that on Proctor. Didn't look like a foot fault to me. Even before the freeze frame.
You can't call a foot fault on Proctor's putt unless it's really obvious. That goes for card mates and officials if they get them.
Calling that a foot fault and sperging out about it is what makes the disc golf community one of the worst.
Better just standardise RPM baskets right now 😂

For people worried about a foot fault taking money from someone else. Look into the dude on the FPO side. Real problem. This not as much.

Anyone complaining about the jump putt obviously can’t jump putt themselves
to be honest i dont really like the so much focus on drama since focus on drama just create more drama. and people that complain on the proctor putt really has no clue in professional disc golf.
I'm on team hate the people who call incorrect foot faults, because actual foot faults are terrible putts with no power while the good putts have a grounded foot for power.
However directly naming random RUclips bozos is not the best way to do this, especially when they're fool/young enough to use their full legal name as a handle.
I wanna be in a video so I’m hitting you up
I don't like standard anything. Different disc catchers are good . They challenge putting skills. !8 different baskets would be cool. All release of disc must come to end behind marker. You can have as much runup as you require. # 4770 G sharp
There is no "fix" for foot faults. And there is also no real problem. You don't get any significant advantage from having left the ground and no matter what you propose there will always be some grey area. I'd rather just get rid of the falling putt fault. Let people jump putt inside the circle. Does anyone think they gain an advantage from jumping inside the circle? Let them.
If you are jump putting, you shouldn't be able to land inside the circle.

And then are you going to pay the people who have to take up and remove the baskets at each course lol + put normal baskets back into the course so it is still playable

Allow jump putts, but change the disc release point to before the player lands.
Can we get rid on the god damn nubs on baskets?

Can we just collectively ignore all the useless people that spend their lives staring at feet and claim foot fault only to be proven wrong once someone does a frame by frame analysis? Maybe we can just enjoy people play disc golf better than any of us will ever be able to.

Not only standardized baskets, but also standardized dimension off the ground. Elevated baskets, on stumps or boulders, or even baskets on the ground should not be allowed. The target should be as uniform as possible. Ball golf does this and so should disc golf.
