6 month review of my experience with the run Chicken automatic coop door. This product has made things much more convenient owning free range chickens.
So true on the relief of not having to open and close the coop every day! I have a Run Chicken door opener too and in the year and a half plus that it's been installed it's operated flawlessly. I still have the original batteries in and they're still going strong. I've reviewed a couple of other openers since, including a $30 knockoff and a $100 mid-priced model, and I still find the Run Chicken version my favorite. It is a little pricey, but it runs perfect out of the box. Great peace of mind for protecting the girls as I don't worry whether it is working properly or not. I know it is.
We’re very happy with ours. It saves trips to the henhouse in the evening. All aluminum construction which offers far better protection from predators than cheaper Chinese models that are thin plastic garbage.Well worth the money. 👍👍👍
I just bought mine from their website and it was on sale for $109 and they had a fourth of July coupon code also that brought it down to $98 and free shipping!
Hey Pauly, We'd love for you to do a video on our door! Our door is larger than the ChickenRun door, it can be powered by the power cord or a solar setup (no double A batteries) and you get lifetime USA Customer support as we are based out of the USA!
I have the same door, but I have to change the batteries every two weeks. What kind of batteries do you use and do you configure it to open and close at specific times or let it do it’s thing based on the sunlight?
I use ion batteries and like I said I haven't had to change them yet after 6 months. I also just use the normal sun up and down mode I don't configure it. It's a cool feature but it doesn't give any benifits to me personally
@@pauliesbackyard7987 thank you. I’ll look into them. I liked the configure feature so the door opens and closes k on n it’s own when I had to be out of town for a day. It’s easy to do and very reliable. Thanks for the tip.
It's really not that loud the phone was just close to it. But the moter definitely makes alittle noise when it goes. You can hear it only about 10 or 15 feet away.
I'm in the mountains of sc so we don't get much snow but we do get ice. I think it only jammed on me once bc it was covered in a sheet of ice. My door does sit outside in the elements though so if it was in your run you won't have an issue.
The door doesn't go down until 30 minutes after it's dark. Ive never had that problem. The chickens are usually inside the coop for almost 45 minutes before the door closes.
Has anyone delt with there customer service? So far not having a good time. I will follow up. Mine ran for 8months perfect then started burning through batteries in days until it just stopped working all together
@@pauliesbackyard7987 My unit started going through batteries really fast. First a couple weeks then a couple days, until it died completely . There was no debris or anything stopping the door from moving freely. The unit was defective and the support team seems to not care. Hopefully you don't have to experience this. I would throw caution to anyone thinking about purchasing this unit.
Run chicken engineers are dumb if they don't know how to put a spacer in between the frames so you can tighten the screws without pinching the door how have so many people complained about this and they still haven't fixed the issue
Have you actually tried the cheap ones? Doesn't sound like it.. $160 is a total ripoff price, when obviously one can make them for $20. The only complaint I've read about the cheap ones is they can bend and not engage the drive holes, seems like a simple fix for anyone that knows how to use a screwdriver to save $100.

Mine has working flawlessly. Just bought a second one
AGREE 100% !!!! These are awesome!!! Programming for timer opening & closing is a pain in the mule. . . . But, very GOOD product!!
Great tips! Thank you! I am going to buy one of these now. Did you build that coop? If yes how did you cut out that chicken shape?
I love your chickens, new subscriber!
Interested in that rooster cut out door! Where’d you get it??
Great service will answer your issues quickly. My email question was answered within minutes, and it was on a weekend.
I bought 2 set. Motor problem, plastic gears broken. On/off timings another problem.
Worried about how much pressure it takes to stop before it crushes chicken. my current one is terrible. I have to replace it.
It doesn't have much pressure on it.

Was the motor that loud even when new?

How does it work when it rains and freezes over night and snow

Thank you for inform I'm on long Island
What happens in the door closes before the chickens are all in?
The door doesn't go down until 30 minutes after it's dark. Ive never had that problem. The chickens are usually inside the coop for almost 45 minutes before the door closes.
Does the app tell you if the door is open or if it’s closed?
I dont use the app personally so I'm not sure
Do any of these work off of a wifi app?

Hello, would you like to try our brand auto chicken door opener?

I agree it is an easy fix for them
Chicken talks chicken clucks

It is expensive but you get what you pay for with this product.

I'm not a handy person, I'd definitely go the more expensive one that doesn't break. 😊
