It started as a Covid activity and as things eased up during the summer, I was out and about. Now that it’s cold again, I’ll probably get back in the shop!
Had to laugh out loud with the glue sniffing joke 😂😂 such a lovely design of the chair.! Although, im with you in that the foam is a bit on the high side.
Another great build. I am a hobbyist woodworker and watch a lot of RUclips woodworking videos. I'm not sure how I've not seen your videos sooner but I'm glad I've found them now. Keep it up.
Hey, I just found your channel and this video. I like how you explain how you go through the steps to make the templates and then the final project. And, nice to see you are human and make mistakes as well as how to fix them. : ). I have many of the similar tools to you and have decided to copy your ideas/ layouts and make this chair. Thanks for making the effort to put this video out here in YT land!
Great build video man, just earned another subscriber. I loved your unexpected jones about the glue and 2020 at the end, caught me off guard and gave me a chuckle.
Thank you! I'm glad you dig the jokes. As horrible as 2020 has been, there is one positive thing for me in that I had evenings and weekends available to do some woodworking during summer months!
Thank you so much! I've always been fascinated with those rice bags. Burlap is one material I've always loved. This was a great opportunity to incorporate it into a project. In the future I might do a small shop stool with burlap upholstery!
Simply stunning man! I own two mid century TV chairs which these would compliment marvellously. Absolutely love your attention to detail and willingness to share your skill. Bravo 🙌
This chair looks great, man. You did a really good job again. You are a good master. I watched with pleasure. congratulations. see you all the time. big greetings.
Thank you! Honestly it's easier than it looks! There is one joinery where the back is connected to the armrest that's tricky. Most others are fairly straightforward. Templating simplifies this a lot! All the best to your build! I'm happy to answer any questions!
Hello Kiran, very good project. Can you give approximat hours spent on this chair in the workshop. So that I don't become impatient midway and do some mistake in hurry when I try this.
It took about 20 hours working about an hour a day. I also had an unrelated injury so paused work for 7 days that upset my rhythm. If you spend 4 hour chunks at a time, I bet it can be done close to 15, maybe less. Every time I stopped, I had to recompose myself, that made me think and be patient, so was a blessing in disguise. Another thing that could save time is buying S4S lumber. Surfacing using my benchtop tools takes quite a bit of time. The most time consuming parts were round overs, sanding and finishing, easily close to 8 hours. You'll see the shape of the chair yet you know you have long ways to go!
@@KiranBhatWoodworking I am novice, but try to lay my hand complex project other than straight cut and screws. Let me plan this. Thanks a lot. By the way, we also like Basmati Rice( Royal).
Thank you! A chair experiences cross-racking movement a lot as result of people sitting, shifting and getting up. For vertical forces the biscuit should be fine but for cross shear forces I’m not sure. Best to try with a small prototype and if you have toddler, have them go at it!
Thank you! I was working with Corona stock so I used the high foam that I had in hand! I'm in the process of replacing it now with a 1" foam. The backrest has an angle that leans away from the frame, similar to the front leg.
In my case, yes. The cushion is too thick as well(I used what I had in hand) so the back looks a bit out of proportion here. I think the original design was probably to make it not look like a traditional chair. Although every renditions of this chair I've seen has low back, I don't see a reason why a high back can be added.
When you redo the cushion with thinner foam--keep in mind that any folds you make should not be visible from the front or back---they should be on the sides ( or folded in such a way that it's not seen)---Chair is beautiful, by-the-way---oh, yes, dacron should not be on the bottom of the board

Haha, I always feel that about spray adhesives. I’ll replace the cushion soon. It does look out of proportion!
Beautyful chair!, keep up the good work.

Thank you! All the best with the Seling Z! It’s been on my list for a while as well!
Loved it. Well done. Best part is using the rice bag for bottom of the upholstery. Kudos for bringing this content

That's the way to learn it! Those rice bags always looked like they could be repurposed and finally got a chance!
beautiful work!
Thank you!
Nice
Thanks!
Awesome chair design!!lose the cushion,,,nice work🙌🏻
Thank you so much!
Thanks!
I love it. As you said it , it looks a little low on the back. But it's beatiful nontheless. I will be waiting for your next video!
Thank you! I'm working on my next project right now!
What a beautiful chair! Great video! Do you think it would work as well with regular biscuits over dominos?
Thank you! A chair experiences cross-racking movement a lot as result of people sitting, shifting and getting up. For vertical forces the biscuit should be fine but for cross shear forces I’m not sure. Best to try with a small prototype and if you have toddler, have them go at it!
Hey where did you get the foam and fabric?
I had ordered the foam from Amazon before the pandemic. Fabric from Joann’s!
Looks great Buddy but as others have mentioned that foam is too high and maybe your back rest should have had the same angle as the side rails.
Thank you! I was working with Corona stock so I used the high foam that I had in hand! I'm in the process of replacing it now with a 1" foam. The backrest has an angle that leans away from the frame, similar to the front leg.
Was it by design to omit the back?
In my case, yes. The cushion is too thick as well(I used what I had in hand) so the back looks a bit out of proportion here. I think the original design was probably to make it not look like a traditional chair. Although every renditions of this chair I've seen has low back, I don't see a reason why a high back can be added.

Royal Basmati Rice... Indian man but obviously
Or you can look at me and guess!
Muy lindo el pequeño taller, tiene suficiente herramienta, al carpintero se le ve inseguro, inexperto, nervioso. Seguramente le falta experiencia.
Been doing for 10 years, thanks
Where are you from?
Michigan

Thanks for the great tip! I have to think and be patient with upholstery because it doesn’t come naturally and quite tricky!
Hello, how are you? can you give me a sample for this?
Hey! The first comment (pinned) has to link to Sketup plans. Hope that helps!
Sir can you send me the measurements in pdf
