A few years after watching this vid now for me and it has been fantastic advice. I used to ride a PE 43 inch board but moved up to 45inch and have now dialled it down to 44inch NRG core board with a wide, round template. I'm about 6.1 and 95kg and this board is fantastic for DK and also prone when wanted (too late to get up!). After a period of sliding out, misplacing my knee, going over the handlebars head first I have started to to make progress and DK has become my favourite way to ride. Thanks Rob!
Great advice Rob! I struggled for several years with improving at drop knee...I stumbled on this finding by accident, that a longer thicker board is much better for DK. By buying a board that was a little bigger and thicker that was on sale. My DK started to improve right away. Wish I had had your advice several years ago! Could have saved a lot of frustration.
how tall are you if you don't mind me asking? I'm 6'2 and considering getting a 45' board for buoyancy and length purposes. Appreciate your time and insight! these videos are fantastic. :)
A smaller nose would be better on that board for dk you wont pearl as easily. For me i found out having a board with just a little flex works best for dk, it grabs better on bottom turns and it kind of springs you into the lip more. Also a little flex is more stabe in choppy conditions. Thats just what i found out that helped me alot, nice video man keep shredding!
Hi HI_grade - thanks for the comment. I suggest a big board which maintains width in the nose as it massively increases the bouyancy. For new drop knee riders this makes the stability of getting up and maintaining balance much easier. It's essential that the board has some flex, I totally agree. Yup for sure, I've been loving the hubboard dub pro i believe its called. Thats the fastest board i had, has the most grip on bottom turns and pumping, out of all the boards i tried.
@@HI_grade I was strongly considering getting the Dubb board but was concerned about it being too stiff and was looking at boards with lower density PP cores and one stringer for some flex. I suppose the thinness of the Dubb makes it a bit more flexible?
@Jzen i got the 40.5in with 2 stringers and it feels perfect for my weight, im about 140. Yeah it is on the thinner side i think thats what gives it a little more flex. I think the boards get a little thicker as you go up in size. Its an awesome board, it has alot of grip and the board really propels you forward when your pumping. You can generate alot of speed. Science has a nice looking dk board too, i never tried it but im sure its really good
Hey Rob...thanks for this vid...Im working on dk and I pull the board underneath me yo get knees on board rather than pull myself onto board...is this a problem?...do I make sense?...thx
I prefer PP personally as it has more float than PE. But if you were bodyboarding in super chilly water then PE would have the flex advantage. Thanks for the comment. Rob

I too find it easier to DK on a board with some flex to it. It it's too stiff, it's harder to turn and control.

I use 4.5 inch Hubboard Jared Houston Pro because I'm 5.10 feet tall is it good for me to do drop knee.

Hi RK, that isn't a problem! As long as you can get up and you're having fun, that's all that it's about!
