Work that’s not done right intentionally should 100% always be called out. That’s really the best way for someone to learn what not to do. Keep up the honest hard work my brother 💪🏻
In this business...there's almost no reputable truck shops. I know that because almost every single job I come across has already had some other painter in there and they've nearly always done a lousy job. Thanks a lot!
You are an artisan Ray. Your craftsmanship is refreshing especially in this world where many people are apathetic and self centered and it shows in their work. That old school care and respect goes into your projects and it is very apparent.
I've been finding ways around the garbage other shops put out for a quarter century now. If they weren't terrible...I'd have far less work...so, in a way, I'm kinda grateful for their scammy, unethical ways. Keeps us in business! Thanks a bunch!
An honest man does what's right when no one is looking. This truck was a great example of what lazy, dishonest men do when no one is looking. Keep on doing what's right Ray, never change 👍
It's great to see that you take a lot of pride in your work. The trouble with a lot of people today, is that they just don't care about good standards of workmanship. I'm a tradesman myself and when I started in the workplace many years ago, it could be quite cruel at times because iff you were sloppy in your work method or attitude ,the old school would come down on you like a ton of bricks. Keep up the brilliant work. I am now a subscriber
Ray, you are absolutely right, those companies that do bad paint jobs being a bunch of crooks, the amounts they charged are in the tens of thousands of dollars, as a client you should take these companies to court so they can never do these types of scams again, and who should fix the bad work, right, you, ride on friend !!! As for the Kenworth, it's a real black beauty. 💯👍🏻💯👍🏻💯👍🏻💯👍🏻💯👍🏻
Accidental poor workmanship can happen and is quite forgivable. Heck...that's how I learned almost all of my lessons over the decades was doing it wrong...by simply not knowing better... at one time or another and coming to regret it. But that's not what I ever seem to run into. What we see around here time and time again is short cuts and lazy work ethic that were performed by shops that were charging a fortune. Thanks a lot!

My first truck was a 1999 w900 assigned to me at Harold Ives out of n little rock.550 cat with a super 10.love that truck!a lot of companies get their colors on there as cheaply and quickly as possible.I was gonna lease to American van lines and they wanted their shop to paint my truck white and I was like nah I'm good.
Don't blame you there, my friend! Chances are through the roof that it would have been regrettable to say the least. I mean...just how many truck shops in this whole country will do an honest deal and a good job as well?..... Probably less than 10...if I had to guess. All we ever run into around here is garbage after garbage.
I like that you called them out. I paid a company $10k to do my Peterbilt and they had the truck for three months. I got it back and the paint was peeling around the rivets. They took it back to fix it and put me on the back burner. I couldn’t use it for work and they gave me a bill for the extra work which I had to fight with them over because it should been done for the price I was quoted in the first place after they took the truck in for an evaluation before giving me the price. I had a budget and I told them look at it first and make sure you can do it for the price you quote. I drove it 2 hours to their shop so they could evaluate it. They said we would be an extra $2k. I said ok but anything more and I can’t do it . When it was all said and done, they tried to charge me double because they had to paint it twice. I told him that’s not my problem. You should’ve did it right the first time. I’m in construction I don’t get to charge my customers twice for the same job if I screwed up. Keep up the good videos man !
I called this owner as soon as I figured out just how extensive this job was set to be and changed the price by only a few thousand dollars. The pressure washer alone was twice that much. Sometimes you step right in it in this business...and when that happens, you just gotta take it on the chin. One thing I never do is take it out on the customer. Takes a lot of nerve for a shop to charge you to repaint something they screwed up to begin with. Like I've said for decades now.... Show me 100 truck painters...And I'll show you 99 crooks! Thanks a lot, My friend!
Lol, we definitely need to see you and Scott from vehcor. You guys would have a field day calling out shoty work from other shops. 😂😂😂😂😂😂 This must happen. 🙏🙏🙏🤣
Give em hell Ray!! Too many hack shops out there ripping us off! I'm hoping to get my K100e Aerodyne up there to you this year. Best big truck paint/body shop in the country! 🇺🇲
Yep! It takes days...even weeks to properly prep a project for paint and only hours to actually prime and paint it. And while all steps are important ...you've got nothing at all if you haven't taken the time to prep it right. Thanks a lot!

I wished that i could of met you 5 years ago because i've would of never trusted someone to paint my truck and they scamed me and lead me to spend time in prison for putting hands on two guys that painted my truck and after a week on the road the paint started to do the same thing that you are talking about. I see how much pride that you do from your heart. Keep up the great work. """ TWO THUMBS UP """ You are the man

That's just the sort of attention they were asking for when they pulled a stunt like that. Unfortunately...the law doesn't see it that way. Still...thanks a lot for your kind words and also for subscribing!
You are pretty awesome, others don’t know what good is. Prep is the most important part of the paint job. Keep up with the great videos. I’m very impressed. I’ve been a mechanic for 46 years. I can tell the difference. You can gladly paint my Pete anytime 👌👍
If this vocation has taught me anything throughout the decades...it's been patience. If you don't have that...you won't see the results that both look good and last. When you wanna get on the books with that mighty Pete of yours...just message me through my fb page and well get that ball rolling. Thank you vey much!
Hey thanks a lot, Buddy! A lack of knowledge is one thing...It happens to all of us at one time or another. But that's almost never what I end up coming across or dealing with. Incompetence...Plain and simple. I've seen it a thousand time in this business...and heard another ten thousand horror stories from customers about their previous experiences in the truck auto body world.
Well, I'm a journeyman auto body guy for 35 years. I ran a heavy truck shop for 9 years. I would not allow that type of work coming out of the shop. So I agree 100% with u.
I actually go over that in detail in the video I released just before this one...which is quite a bit more thorough than trying to explain it here. Thank you very much!
I agree with your stance on calling out shoddy work. Making mistakes in any professional field is essentially inevitable, when that happens though there is a moral obligation to fix the situation at no burden to the customer. And they don’t happen repeatedly. I work construction and the things I see contractors pull is frankly appalling. The customer is the one feeding your family, so you as the contractor have a duty to do the right thing by them. I can’t help but feel you are one of the increasingly rare honest painters that actually value their work and care about doing it right. Most of those guys are retiring or have just been run out by the low-rent outfits. That truck just reeks of gross incompetence or blatant neglectful practices by the last painter, either way they don’t have business painting so much as a mailbox.
I know. I've owned dozens of KW's thru the years and never used the hinges. I've even replaced them when they started rattling - how dumb is that. I enjoy your videos and your work. Garbage is garbage. Don't ever worry about calling it out!
Wow. This was one of the greatest things I've ever watched! The passion, detail and respect you have for tge truck blew my mind. It would be a total blessing if I could get you to do my old truck like you did this W9. SUBSCRIBED! 🫡
Great to watch a man with standards do great work..plenty want the money but not make the effort should wear a mask when there robbing you! Hi from Scotland
Yeah work that should have been done correctly should be 100% Always Be Called out of all of their shootie workmanship So keep up your Great work on showing the shootie workmanship
That hinge on the cab next to the hood is for swinging out the air filter canister so you can change the air filter. Otherwise the mirror brackets are in the way. I know this from experience I had a 2001 W9 also Kenworth has the metal parts like those hinges in stainless steel.
Love your work! This is exactly the reason you have to be really knowledgeable when buying a used truck. So many a-holes out there ripping off hard working people. When ever you go to buy a used truck and looks really shiny and new, that is a huge red flag!!! You really need to educate yourself when looking at a used truck or take someone along with you. Never get your hopes up or get exited when looking at a nice shiny used truck. If it’s too good to be true……… Why did you not use paint stripper for the entire truck after seeing this nightmare? Keep up your good work!
Thanks a lot! I didn't need to use stripper once I was down to factory paint. Besides, stripper shouldn't be used on anything fiberglass...so that means it never would have been stripped completely anyway. Thanks again!
Well...you can always do some scrolling through my back log of videos, because I've covered the how to's on bodywork in more than a few of them. Even as recently as within the last half dozen or so videos...I go over how to fix dents, doing fiberglass repairs, and even masking. Thanks!
Mate you do beautiful work its unbelievable how the old paint blew of with the pressure cleaner, and its great to see that old W9 looking like new again . Cheers kym Adelaide
The hinge is there so you can replace the air filters because the mirror bracket is in the way. You cannot take the top of the breather off because there is not enough clearance, but you can take off the two bolts and nuts opposite the hinge and the air tubes and the whole breather will swing out.
Good ole Canadian quality! Some of the toughest trucks come out of there as well. I'm very happy with the washer so far...and the overall quality is outstanding as well. Go Canada!
Beautiful in Black!! Here's a question for you though. Please don't take this as me being a troll because I assure you I am not. If that truck came back in 3 months, would you be willing to wash it with that new pressure washer at the same distance you did before. I'm just curious. Thanks for the content, I love watching it because what you do is something I would never have the patience for lol. I'll stick to trucking and count on guys like you for the paint work!!
No...I wouldn't even wash a factory painted vehicle like that. I was purposely trying to get the paint to come off of this truck. However...a person can get paint to come up off of anything with a pressure washer like mine. Thanks a lot!
That spot on the back of the sleeper where you said they burned through the paint and painted over it I think is probably where they were carrying their spare tire and it was rubbing against the sleeper right through all the paint and then they just painted over it without sanding it out. I have seen that many many times.
Yeah..you know? There are plenty of youtube channels that host never ending politeness and positive vibes... They can always Go find and critique one of them! Thank you very much!
Beautiful job! If you don't mind me asking, how much would a job of this size cost a guy? I'm betting my truck is gonna need as much work as this one did.
I originally bid this one for 15 grand...which is typical for an average sleeper truck around here. I raised the price to 17 after I figured out what we were in for...but I only did it that way because the guy had already brought the truck to me from over 7 hours away and my pressure washer had already destroyed the appearance of the passenger side by then. So I took it easy on him due to those circumstances. If I had known from the beginning how it was going to go...I would have bid it in the 20 grand range. Thanks a lot!
Effing hacks. I deal with the same thing you do. But on a smaller scale. Another quality job by Team Steam. An ounce of prep will save you a day of heartache.
That one ran 17 Grand... but it would have been closer to 20 if I'd known about the extent of the carnage before the guy drove it almost 7 hours to my shop. Neither of us knew how bad it was going to be...so I took it a little easier on him. Thanks a lot, buddy!
So far I watched up to the pressure washing part and paused. He may go into it in detail, I’m not sure, but you have to be careful sanding around rivets. It is always a good idea to get a gallon or two of etching primer. You can hit a lot of spots that were not able to be reaching by sanding. We all know door, hood, and trunk jambs are the most neglected with prep work. Personally, I’ve failed to prep the tops of larger trucks the most.
As is on display in nearly every video I've made, our rivet prep is thoughtful and extensive. I've even done a tutorial section on the details of scratching rivets as well as other tight spots on semis in a fairly recent video (within the last 6 months). In a quarter century, we've never had a single truck come back to us because our prep was incomplete and caused a paint failure. You wanna see how to painstakingly and properly prep a semi for paint? You're in the right spot! Thanks for your input!
Keep up the good work. Clearly the masses are in favor of what you are doing and saying. The only thing that’s missing is actually calling out the paint shop by name. I know you can’t because the dirt bags would probably try to sue or you’d get censored by YT.
Wow, you're right. I, that is bad job. Uh, I feel for you brother, that's I think I see. I don't see why that driver wouldn't have a a claim against those two or at least one of them man.Good luck
Less and less people doesn't have pride in their work. I think most do to a boss that doesn't make workers enjoy their work. Often result in bad result. Love your videos! I would pay a little more to get a great job. But some garages have high price and shit result.
Work that’s not done right intentionally should 100% always be called out. That’s really the best way for someone to learn what not to do. Keep up the honest hard work my brother 💪🏻

Great to watch a man with standards do great work..plenty want the money but not make the effort should wear a mask when there robbing you! Hi from Scotland
Thanks for your positive input...And hello to you fine folks over in Scotland as well!
Good job. Big Bro.
Thank you very much!
Yeah work that should have been done correctly should be 100% Always Be Called out of all of their shootie workmanship So keep up your Great work on showing the shootie workmanship
Thank you very much! I appreciate it
Beautiful paint job!
Thank you so much!
That hinge on the cab next to the hood is for swinging out the air filter canister so you can change the air filter. Otherwise the mirror brackets are in the way. I know this from experience I had a 2001 W9 also Kenworth has the metal parts like those hinges in stainless steel.
Well thanks for the info, buddy!
If it’s too good to be true………
Why did you not use paint stripper for the entire truck after seeing this nightmare?
Keep up your good work!
Thanks a lot! I didn't need to use stripper once I was down to factory paint. Besides, stripper shouldn't be used on anything fiberglass...so that means it never would have been stripped completely anyway. Thanks again!
great work I just wish you'd show more how to. as a single truck owner I'd like to learn how to make some body repairs my self.
Well...you can always do some scrolling through my back log of videos, because I've covered the how to's on bodywork in more than a few of them. Even as recently as within the last half dozen or so videos...I go over how to fix dents, doing fiberglass repairs, and even masking. Thanks!
@@teams.t.e.a.m6214 will do thanks
Mate you do beautiful work its unbelievable how the old paint blew of with the pressure cleaner, and its great to see that old W9 looking like new again .
Cheers kym
Adelaide
Well thanks a lot, my friend!
Looks incredible!
Thank you so much!
The hinge is there so you can replace the air filters because the mirror bracket is in the way. You cannot take the top of the breather off because there is not enough clearance, but you can take off the two bolts and nuts opposite the hinge and the air tubes and the whole breather will swing out.
Good to know.
You did a beautiful job.
Thank you so much!
That pressure washer seems to work great,,I drove past the plant where it was built in Sussex,New Brunswick today.
Good ole Canadian quality! Some of the toughest trucks come out of there as well. I'm very happy with the washer so far...and the overall quality is outstanding as well. Go Canada!
100% right mate . Love your work
Well thank you very much!
Ur awesome painter n doing the semi truck for truck drivers 😊
Well thank you very much! I appreciate it
Beautiful in Black!!
Love this man’s work 👍
Thank you so much!
That spot on the back of the sleeper where you said they burned through the paint and painted over it I think is probably where they were carrying their spare tire and it was rubbing against the sleeper right through all the paint and then they just painted over it without sanding it out. I have seen that many many times.
Could very well be. Either way...It's easier to simply paint over it rather than just doing what the trucks owner paid for.
Excellent job! You're 💯 percent right! If they can't handle the truth move on..
Yeah..you know? There are plenty of youtube channels that host never ending politeness and positive vibes... They can always Go find and critique one of them! Thank you very much!
Love the videos
Love your honest opinions also
Well I certainly appreciate that!
Looks Outstanding!
Thanks a lot!
Effing hacks. I deal with the same thing you do. But on a smaller scale. Another quality job by Team Steam. An ounce of prep will save you a day of heartache.
You said it, my friend! Thanks a lot!
Great work love the videos
What to you guys charge of a paint job
Thanks a lot! It was likely 2 different shops responsible for the mess on that truck. They are still doing lousy work today, I'm guessing
Wow, you're right. I, that is bad job. Uh, I feel for you brother, that's I think I see. I don't see why that driver wouldn't have a a claim against those two or at least one of them man.Good luck
Thanks for your input, buddy!
That’s a bloody good pressure washer.
It wasn't cheap... but I wanted a good one...and one with a Kohler engine on it as well. Pretty happy with it so far. Thanks!
You are a pro
Thanks a lot!
Bad bodywork is the worst! I would gladly pay you to paint a truck. Keep it up.
Well I definitely appreciate it, Buddy!
So true 👍
Right on
Less and less people doesn't have pride in their work. I think most do to a boss that doesn't make workers enjoy their work. Often result in bad result. Love your videos! I would pay a little more to get a great job. But some garages have high price and shit result.
High prices and subpar results are the norm in this line of work, unfortunately. Thanks a lot, buddy!
Keep calling them maybe they will change there shit work as always great job 👏 👍 👌 🙌 💪
Thanks a lot, buddy! They will never change...but at least I can slam them on occasion for it!
